prozac

601528 tn?1224081498 I atempted suicide on Prozac. They cause mania and can cause pyshcotic mania (which is as much fun as it sounds trust me). SSRI's are up there with Ritalin as the most over prescribed drugs around and they can be killers. Right now you are manic, thats ok, its part of the disease so dont worry OK Jst go see your doc and talk to them about it. It can be fixed with a med change.
804276 tn?1480858056 i want to start taking cymbalta for bipolar depression and chronic pain and wondered if anyone takes this, what the side effects are and how it helped with pain and depression. i take prozac and lortab and would like to get off the lortab and can't take prozac all the time because it makes me severely anxious if i'm not in a major depression. any advice or experience stories would be helpful.
Avatar n tn She has taken lithium for 30 years, plus prozac with great results and no problems with mood swings. We began noticing mania symptoms about 3 days after beginning first treatment ( Folfuri 46 hours on take home infusion pump). That was almost 3 wks ago. Had her 2nd tx 4 days ago. I mentioned mania to her oncologist who said steroids were probably to blame but due to RA she has had lots of steroids over last 9 yrs with no problems.
Avatar n tn I am bipolar with more depression than anything. I've been on effexor with Tegretol and it's not working....so we're changing from effexor to either prozac or lithium. I don't know which one I should try....I'm tired and have no libido. The side effects of Prozac are just that. But Lithium has more dangerous side effects. I need help deciding!
Avatar f tn Bloating can be a side effect of Prozac as it can cause intestinal swelling. The shakes may be a side effect as well. If you're 18, your hips are naturally going to become larger. Nothing to worry about. Get off the Yasmin if you can, unless you have to take it for some medical reason other than you don't want to become pregnant. In my opinion, that stuff is bad news. Avatar f tn yes anti depressants can cause mania type reactions - usually in bipolar people, th'at is why I don't take them. Maybe get a second opinion on the diagnosis, that is not a particularly normal reaction for unipolar depression, When they were still giving bipolar patients anti-depressents regularly I tried every variety and had a particular problem with SSRI's.
20632981 tn?1503687567 My question is, does Prozac have low side effects like Zoloft but does it work better? And should I be taking a SSRI or SNRI for depression and anxiety, what works better with less side effects?
Avatar f tn I also take omega 3 fish oil and vitamin b complex. having few side effects off the prozac shakes feeling sick and diarrhea.
Avatar m tn However an anti-depressent by itself would not treat the manic aspects of bipolar and could potentially worsen it so you would need to stay on a full mood stabilizer as well (which is what Lamictal is).
2193833 tn?1339411302 The bad news is, it will probably be much more difficult for you to adjust to the Prozac this time around, you may have to endure more side effects that are bothersome. The GOOD news is, the side effects still should subside in about 2 weeks (maybe a little less). The Xanax will definitely help with the side effects as well. You may want to speak with your doctor and see if he would be okay with you taking a slightly higher dose of the Xanax while you adjust to the Prozac...just a few weeks.
Avatar n tn t freak out about the side effects, most are minimal and you would be closely monitored by your pdoc anyways. http://meds.queensu.ca/~clpsych/orientation/Mood%20stabilizers%20&%20adjunct.
2080404 tn?1643113754 Hi there. Is this better? Prozac does give some gi side effects. When my son started this, he had nausea and it lasted for about a week and a half and then began getting better. He chewed ginger gum, ate tums and peptobismal chews. They seemed to help him. Was trazadone new as well? I will say that unless something is really awful, giving a full trial is best in my opinion. My son actually needed the full dose of prozac of 80 mg, so prepare that they may tweak your dosage as well.
2010625 tn?1329372056 I have tried several different antipsychotics and keep getting bad side effects with them that have been so bad I can't take them. I have been on seroquel, risperdal, geodon, abilify, and currently on latuda. On the latuda if I take more than 40mgs I get akathisia real bad, but on the 40mgs I start rapid cycling. My doc said I could try saphris, but I am sick of trying these antipsychotics. He said then the next option would be to try lithium. I am currently on lamictal 200mgs, latuda 40mgs.
Avatar f tn Usually there are side effects, which should diminish with time. I found Prozac did not suit me at all, but it suits lots of other people. My side effects were so bad I had to stop the 10mg dose within a few weeks. We all react differently to drugs, what suits one person, may not suit another. You have not been on Prozac long, so you may need to give it time to get into your body. If you really think the side effects are too bad, then I suggest you go back to the doctor.
Avatar f tn Has anyone else taking Fluoxetine (similar to Prozac) experienced side effects? I have noticed some odd changes in the way my body responds to exercise; specifically, excessive sweating. I'm not sure if the medication is directly linked, but in the past year (I have been taking the drug for about 2.5 years) I break into an all over the body sweat very easily, and it has happened even when I'm not exercising.
Avatar f tn When I came off of it, my doc put me on a taper as I came off of it. I did notice some side effects like naseau and increased anxiety, however I kept an open line of communication with the doc. I asked if it would be okay to go on a slower taper as I came off of it. He agreed and the slower taper seemed to help with the side effects. I am glad that you are seeing a psychiatrist to help you with your medication prescriptions and questions.
Avatar f tn Without the aid of a mood stabilizer the side effects of stopping zoloft cold turkey (especially if it has caused mania) are pretty rough to handle.
Avatar m tn I woke up this morning worried about side effects and felt like my heart was racing and going to beat out of my chest. I took 2 xanax (which I've been taking for years) and feel like I'm calming down, but I'm worried this racing heart is a side effect or if it's just my anxiety of taking the new medication. I want to get my life back but I think I'm afraid even this won't work. Would appreciate any advice or feedback.
692643 tn?1372611227 Could they be inducing mania? Could you try a SSRI instead? Something like Prozac? I take a very low dose of Prozac (10mg) and couple it with a couple other different meds for my Fibro. I take Topamax and Soma as well for pain and migraines. It seems to be a good combo. You may be able to handle the Prozac since it only affects the serotonin, or something similar to it (a SSRI) if you have trouble with the SNRIs like Cymbalta, Savella or Effexor.
Avatar n tn i find that although i may have periods of hypomania, it is not enough to warrant being on meds for mania. most of them are very strong and the side effects are even worse in the long run. of course if you have extreme mania then you actually need to be medicated, but i find that most doctors really overmedicate what they call "mania".
Avatar n tn If they thought she had bipolar and took her off Prozac that would make sense because that can worsen mania. Zyprexa is an antipsychotic that is a good mood stabilizer but that is sedating. Abilify is less so but as you said she couldn't tolerate it. Lithium is worth trying. Its the most effective mood stabilizer out there. For myself I found Lamictal had less side effects and was more tolerable but every person reacts differently.
4173517 tn?1350598701 hi , from my experiences with anti depressants they seem to take 4-6 weeks to start working and i had a few side effects , but for some people from what i've heard they can send them manic , and i'm actually in the same boat at the moment with zoloft 100mg i been on for close to 2 months now along with seroquel xr 600mg but my psychiatrist has cut the zoloft down to 50 mg because of the mania i've been experiencing the last week or so , just keep in mind though that meds effect
Avatar f tn I took several different medications, Lithium, Lexapro, Prozac, Geodon, to name a few and had horrible side effects of weight gain and extremely lethargic. Even after having 3 children I was always very small, 5'8" and at my biggest 130 lbs, well until medication. Within 2 years my weight had sky rocketed to over 200 lbs. And I would literally have trouble most of the day keeping my eyes open.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with BP II with more noticeable depression as well. I'm actually on a combo of Wellbutrin/Abilfy and it's the PERFECT combo for me. I was on lamictal and it made me crazy and had awful side effects. I've never taken Prozac or Lithium, as I've found a combo that works for me. I take 250mg Wellbutrin twice a day and 15mg of Abilify. I also take an anti-anxiety med and sleeping pills as needed.
