about 20 years ago while performing in Denver..I had my 1st bout of stage fright..heart racing...shortness`of breath..hardly enough air to complete a sentence...it was so dibilitating..I became fear full everytime I had to hit the stage..I know I shouldn't focus on it..but I do..it'll start early in the day..last time in Vegas..I was almost in tears in the middle of the day...I've been turning down opportunities due to the fear...I've medicated myself with tequilla..and it helps.

s a beta-blocker mostly used to lower blood pressure but sometimes used for performance anxiety situations like stage fright, exam taking, job interviews etc. He's used it with other patients experiencing ED.
I also do take the beta-blocker pindolol which has kept my BP at 125/70 for years. Shrink says very occasional and use of propranolol on top of pindolol should not be a problem but I still have concerns which I will run by my GP.
I agree with the above reply, with the exception of the info that propanolol needs to be taken daily. Beta blockers like Inderal are often prescribed "as needed" to combat stage fright, presentation anxiety. They're usually prescribed to be taken within a certain time frame (usually an hour or so) before the anxiety causing event.
I do agree that taking both medications isn't necessary, and could exacerbate symptoms of drowsiness, dizziness, etc.
Propanolol isn't addictive. It's a beta blocker, prescribed for hypertension, and heart related symptoms (ie palpitations), and it's often used on an as needed basis for people with stage fright, or fear of giving public demonstrations, etc.
It can be effective for anxiety, and is frequently prescribed for anxiety. How did your doc instruct you to take it? Daily? Or as needed? One of the biggest concerns is a drop in blood pressure.
I take propranolol the dosage is up to your doctor it doesn't really make you tired although everyone is different but it doesn't me it's suppose to be for stress and anxiety but I don't think it helps very well you might consider ativan
i have been put on beta blockers propranolol 40 mg three times a day for benign ventricular ectopic beats and anxiety. im just not sure what times i should take them. how many hours do i need to wait to take another.
I dont cope too well with fright (as these scare the life out of me) and have had many nervous breakdowns because of the fright they give me. I was put on Propranolol for the palps and started anti depressants when i was 21. Ive managed to come off all of these and really dont want to go back. The palps im getting now are accompanied by lightheadedness and a feeling that my blood is rushing from my body. I dont black out or anything, but feel like i could.

Sertraline and other Selective Serotonin Re-uptake Inhibitors (SSRIs) inhibit a certain enzyme which usually metabolizes Propranolol. Due to this inhibition, Propranolol action may be enhanced. But it will not be appropriate to look at this isolated piece of information and ignore other evidences.
We do have a lot of trials and reviews exploring the combination. There is no conclusive evidence which allows us to deem this combination unacceptable.

And no I have non of those , she told me to have them for my head pains (which have sort of disappeared regardless) and my anxiety..I've not had them yet.. Just worried to.. But I've been told of so many times by the doctors..
If it is necessary to discontinue propranolol, its dosage should be reduced gradually over several weeks. Talk to your doctor about this for proper management. Take care and regards.
4 days ago pcp changed my beta blocker from propranolol 40mg twice daily to metprolol er 25mg daily d/t low pulse in 40s- 50s. Been on propranolol for 22yrs for PVCS. She had me just stop propranolol and start metoprolol, been experiencing shakiness, occassional pvcs, headache, nausea, pulse still 45 - low 60s at rest and with exertion 70-90. Should she have tapered propranolol or will the metoprolol block the more serious withdrawal symptoms ie: HTN, chest pain ect.
i am 28 years of age,i had a problem of trembling my fingers of both hand,specialy when i write it was more difficult,then i consulted a neurologist so he checked me and prescribed me propranolol 20 ml to take 3times a day but i was affraid to take 3times but i took that only once a day as i was asked by someone if i continue that much i will have to use it forever.when i take that i feel much better.
Has anyone tried PROPRANOLOL for prevention of Migraines? I have struggled with headaches almost every day & Migraines aprox every 7-10 days for the last 10 years. Feverfew has helped but they now seem to be getting worst so I was thinking of asking my GP if I could try Propranolol.
Hello. I recently started taking atenolol for stage fright, 50 to 100 mg once to twice a week. it worked great! until after several weeks i started getting a sensation of irregular heart beats. i have been off of it now for 2 weeks and i still get a skipped heart beat sensation followed by a very forceful heart beat. i checked my pulse and there is a long (couple of seconds?) pause in the heart beats when i get that feeling.
This was following the doubling of my propranolol dosage, however not as an immediate effect. I was not aware this could be an issue so, I was not hypervigilent to monitor - the blood work was done maybe 12-24 months following the dosage increase.
Sure wish I had been aware of this danger- I would have made sure to have my levels monitored more frequently AND requested a change in medication- now I am left dealing an avoidable health situation.
I have been on 10 mg of propranolol 2x a day for 3 months for (POTS) Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia and I have a anxiety disorder that has been totally out of control again. My doctor wants me to go on 10mg lexapro I am very afraid of medication and was wondering whats the best time to take this medication morning or night and can you take these two together.

I was diagnosed with PSVTs 5 years ago at age 35. I take 10mg of propranolol daily and it has worked just fine to keep the arrhythmia at bay.
Lately I have been trying to run a little faster when I exercise, and I am wondering if a medication adjustment might be in order. I am not trying to do anything crazy; I just want to run a 5K in less than 30 minutes. About 20 minutes in, my heartrate gets to the high 170s.
