prometrium for prevention of miscarriage

Hiya sorry to hear that. I also had one on 22nd November, this also my first pregnancy. I don't think from what I have read there is any particular reason generally for a miscarriage, the chances are 1 in 4 so quite high. I feel the same, it's the worst thing ever. Just concentrate on getting yourself as healthy as poss and take folic acid and look after yourself. Have you had 1st period yet? I'm hoping mine will be this weekend/ next wk.

Am I still in the red zone for miscarriage even though I am practically in the second trimester of my pregnancy? Somebody please help because I am really concerned about what could happen.

Hi I was wondering if any one took prometrium during their first trimester of their pregnancy? If yes, what were the side affects? I have had one miscarriage at 4 months and I fear I am probably having another one with my second pregnancy I have been prescribed Prometrium and I am just wondering if it has done any good to any one etc. Thank you.

Hello Doctor., I'm 28. I had 2 miscarriages, both lasted only 4w3d. I did all tests to find what was wrong. All results were normal, except a cyst in right fallopian tubes from HSG test. But my Dr. did not test progesterone levels so far. My period just started, my dr. asked me to take prometrium 200mg vaginally only after I have a positive pregnancy test.

I have symptoms, but the doctor has a presription for prometrium on hold for me awaiting these results. Any thoughts??

I tried to get my OB to do hcg again today (48 hrs) after last level to just give me some peace of mind either way. They told me to wait until next week for U/S. ANY advice is helpful!!!! Thank you. I am so confused.

so you are saying that if I get pregnant while on the prometrium my risk of miscarriage is not going to be higher and the meds won't force a period right?

I am now pregnant again I am 5 weeks and 2 days pregnant. I am scared to death of having another miscarriage. I had labs drawn last Thursday September 22 to confirm the pregnancy. My HCG levels were 215 and my proestrogen was 24. They drew my blood again yesterday September 26 as they are planning to watch my numbers more closely this time. They called earlier and my HCG level had went up quite a bit to 1100 but my progesterone dropped slightly to 17.

I conceived on prometrium 400 mg. Unfortunately it ended in mc, but I did get pregnant...the fetus was a male (I had a d&c and they tested to see what was wrong--everything was "normal")---but progesterone has nothing to do w/ conceiving a particular sex. Like pol79princess said, it's just to help prevent potential miscarriage... Good luck!

I will be praying for you and I also had a miscarriage in March of 09 so if you need to talk please feel free to message me. My advice is to go on progesterone. And go back for more test before you do anything. Keep us posted.

re taking Prometrium, and you are miscarrying, can the prometrium prevent any sign of the m/c ? i.e. can it prevent spotting/bleeding/cramping , or will the m/c go through anyway.?

Because I had a miscarriage last year. They put me on prometrium. As soon as I found out I was pregnant. I went to get my HCG and progesteron checked. it was HCG 130 and progesterone 45.8 which is good. But they put me on it just in case. I started seeing a new doctor now and she she is sending me to a specialist for the medicine to see if I really need to keep taking the medication, because it could be harmful to a developing fetus. My appointment is Friday.

The doctor prescribed prometrium for her. She is scared to death to take the medication because it has a strong warning on the label "DO NOT TAKE IF PREGNANT OR ANTICIPATE GETTING PREGNANT. Why would the doctor prescribe prometrium if the twin is OK at this time?

I had a m/c about 5 months before that, so I believe the Prometrium helped me sustain the pregnancy. Prometrium is a progesteron supplement, the lack of progesterone can lead to m/c, so it is supposed to help with keeping the pregnancy. Like the others said, around the end of the first trimester the placenta takes over and you no longer need the supplments.

When my HCG level dropped, I was told to stop the prometrium due to the impending miscarriage. I go for an ultrasound on the 8th, but, at this point, I am in the process of having a miscarriage. 30 this afternoon and for will be closed tomorrow, possible the rest of the week. So I called and talked to the NP on call and she talked to the on call doctor and they decided to call in a script for Prometrium to be on the safe side. I have never used this before and was just wondering from experienced users. I pretty much knew on my own I had low progesterone from my last miscarriage in July and because they wouldn't prescribe anything until more bloodwork the next time I was pregnant I took matters into my own hands a little and decided to use progesterone cream as I had read a lot about it and saw the positive effects... I have a friend whose OB tested her progesterone, and prescribed 200mg Prometrium for a level of 8. This increased to 18, so he prescribed an additional 100mg. Her level subsequently rose to >60, at which point she became extremely symptomatic (i.e. nausea, etc.) He decreased her dosage back to 200mg, and her level fell back down to 39. This seems to conflict w/ my doctor's theory that raising the dosage above 200mg will not increase your levels.

The next day after taking prometrium for the first time I stopped spotting, but the day after that I started again, and now os a little darker than what it was before. I think we should ask babyscience about how long it takes for the spotting to stop. Thanks to prometrium she has a beautiful 10 month old miracle baby!

low progesterone and wants me to take 200 mg of prometrium by mouth at night. I am VERY sensitive to meds and pick out all side effects...I am concerned that i will feel dizzy and that will make me panic-I know i need to take the med for the preg but, if I am dizzy I will be a complete mess-anyone out there NOT get dizzy because that is all I read about it on the internet!!!!!!!

I was given a prescription for Prometrium from my Dr. Im not pregnant yet but start clomid in 4 days. My Dr said not to start taking the prometrium until I get a BFP. I MC twins back in September, but am not sure if it was due to low progesterone. my question is, on the Prometrium pill container it says do not take if pregnant. I was just perscribed Prometrium for this cycle as well. Like you, I hope to have a positive result. I was prescribed Prometrium to help thicken/sustain my uterine lining as it was <7. Hope this is your month. Keep us posted.
