Prometrium and early pregnancy

Common Questions and Answers about Prometrium and early pregnancy

prometrium

Avatar f tn I am currently taking Prometrium twice a day to supplement a drop in progesterone early in my pregnancy. I am already at 13 weeks, have heard a heartbeat and seen the baby in utero doing well. My doc said that it is safe to discontinue the use of the Prometrium at this time. Just wondering what others' experiences were with progesterone supplementation. I am so nervous to stop supplementing!
182352 tn?1231183410 hi everyone. i am 5 wks pregnant & my OBGYN just prescribed prometrium for low progestrone, and metformin ( the generic form of glucophage), due to my body not processing sugar properly. the prometrium bottle says DO NOT TAKE WHILE PREGNANT. i have read up on this & it seems to be a very common & helpful drug to take during early pregnancy. has anyone taken both, or either 1 alone while pregnant? my 1st pregnancy was a breeze & i hate taking anything during pregnancy.
1564074 tn?1334490908 m sorry to hear about your low number. They like to see it at least in the double digits in early pregnancy, so hopefully the prometrium will help bring it up. Best of luck with everything!
Avatar f tn My progesterone dropped during my 4th week of pregnancy and the doctor prescribed prometrium. I am currently experiencing brief but horrible cramping accompanied with some minor bleeding. I've read the prescription information pamphlet over and over, and that is apparently a side effect. But with my history...I just need to know if anyone else experienced the same while taking Prometrium but still was able to have a healthy baby.
1610106 tn?1298173845 From my last couple pregnancies I can tell you that: Baby #3 (pregnancy 4) was hcg of 18 at 9dpo (baby boy) Baby #4 (current-pregnancy #6) was hcg of 48 at 9dpo If you think of it this way...most poas tests won't show positive until around a level of 25 and most women aren't having super early pregnancy tests that are positive. You were still a few days before your period! I think your level is great!
Avatar n tn My ob/gyn has put me on Prometrium to help regulate my menstrual cycle. My husband and I are trying to concieve our second child. With my first child I was put on prometrium for the first trimester due to low progesterone levels. This month I thought there was a chance I was pregnant and he told me instead of taking it days 16-25 I should remain on it until I know for sure if I am pregnant. I still have not gotten my period, and I am 3 days late.
Avatar f tn What doctors say are really matter of opinion, im sure some would tell you everything should be fine and maybe youre too early still. Unfortunately, and what i know we all hate hearing, is all you can really do is wait. I think that if your body was having trouble sustaining this pregnancy the prometrium would help, but sometimes things like that wont help if your body senses something wrong with the embryo and stops on its own.
Avatar f tn I had my 3rd IUI on 5/7/08. I took Clomid on days 5-9. This morning I was not feeling well (nausea, tired, etc). I am really hoping that I am pregnant but I'm not sure if my "symptoms" are just in my head or real. It seems too early to have pregnancy symptoms but what do you think? Has anyone had symptoms this early on? Could they just be related to Clomis? Any input is very much appreciated. Thanks!
611020 tn?1290571629 First one was a missed miscarriage and there was no symptoms and was 12 weeks, the second one was early (6 weeks) and I had cramping but no bleeding. Even went and had another beta which was 0 and didn't bleed till I shopped the prometrium. I guess it depends on the dose you are on. I take 200mg 3x a day, vaginal suppositories. Even with my fresh ivf that didn't work I didn't get af till I stopped the prometrium. I hope that helps!
Avatar f tn Well my doctor said that other than it being common to go into early labor is common but he said i have a weak cervix so he recommands me getting a cerclage they stich ur cervix on the 3rd month that prevents going into early labor. and he says it always works.look up online to reead exactly what a cerclage is and ask your doctor if that would be the right thing for you. hope it helps.
Avatar f tn You should check with your dr. I was on Prometrium (progesterone) from 2dpo and through my 1st trimester, so that shouldn't be a problem. A neg blood test could be mistaken, IF it was done too early. Best wishes.
1564074 tn?1334490908 y current pregnancy I started prometrium at 3 days past ovulation and continued with it til 12 1/2 weeks and am now 26 weeks. It is best to have it started as early as possible but it does help if there aren't still other issues with the baby. I will tell you that it made my morning sickness much worse than with any of my other pregnancies and my breasts were extremely sore and I was always exhausted until I came off the meds.
Avatar f tn t know should I find another doctor....Would it be OK to come off Prometrium all of a sudden and I should reduce my dosage to once a day...Please help..so confused...
290867 tn?1333569278 yes I misspelled it sorry, What are the risks involved with taking this and TTC?
1310773 tn?1317095445 I know that sore boobs and nausea can be from the prometrium, and fatigue, which I have had plenty of... But today I got up to let my doggies out, and as I was moving around I felt really dizzy... Is this the prometrium or could it be an early symptom? It really freaked me out, I'm trying not to get my hopes up as usual, but just looking for some hope I guess... Is it too early????
1262373 tn?1281543782 so you are saying that if I get pregnant while on the prometrium my risk of miscarriage is not going to be higher and the meds won't force a period right?
Avatar f tn I have had one miscarriage at 4 months and I fear I am probably having another one with my second pregnancy I have been prescribed Prometrium and I am just wondering if it has done any good to any one etc. Thank you.
628735 tn?1273875777 Yeah, it is kind of ironic that prometrium has that warning when it is such a common supplement in early pregnancy. But don't worry, it's really not an issue. Lots and lots of women are using it through the first trimester. As for when to start taking them, it depends on what it is used for. Some women take it every cycle after ovulation if their levels are too low to sustain a possible pregnancy...or to extend a luteal phase defect.
623920 tn?1276478891 She said this could be a cyst or I could be pregnant. She put me on 200 mg of prometrium. She did a Beta and it came back negative but she thought it could have been too early. I still have no af ...So i went back CD 36 for another Beta. I am now awaiting the results. I am wondering if this Beta comes back negative again... should I feel confident that I am not pregnant?
Avatar f tn I went through an ovulation induction cycle and was put on prometrium (progesterone) to support a healthy lining. I am now 20 days past ovulation, no period, and three negative home pregnancy tests (it is now day 33 of my cycle and I am typically a 28 day cycle, like clockwork). I talked to the doctor today who told me to stop the prometrium and I should expect my period in 2-3 days.
175665 tn?1306459024 I am taking Prometrium and took it my last pregnancy. If your Progesterone is low you will miscarry. Likewise if there is a genetic issue with the little embryo that would cause miscarry Prometrium won't "save" the pregnancy. But at least you'll be able to get far enough along using the Prometrium to see what is going to happen and possibly prevent a miscarriage in the event your little bean is healthy as can be! Prometrium makes me feel really dizzy.
543791 tn?1216381777 I just wanted to post an update, Hopefully this info will help someone else with a similar issue. My doctor sent me to a specialist early b/c I have Endometriosis, One Ovary/Tube, and recent Cervical Cancer. They want me to have kids as soon as possible. No pressure... right?? haha The appointment went very well. The doctor was encouraging and I learned a lot. Both of my m/c's were early.
Avatar f tn That sounds fine to me..my progesterone never went over 10 with my son on prometrium and he is now a healthy 2 year old!good luck!
