She just started the prednisone. She's been on it for 2 days. Any comments or thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
also they prescribed the Prednisone again for 5 days. I took ONE AND REALIZED IT WORK IMMEDIATELY. The awful noise stopped. The said I should go to an ear doctor so I am; but here what I want to know. Could I continue to take Predinisone, since it works, if I only take it for short periods when I need it? I realize this isn't about asthma, but I saw your postings on predinisone. Please help.
I was on 40mg for 10 days is July and it made me hurt and made my knees numb for months. I had a nerve study and EMG of both legs and back and I was fine. MRI I have four deg/bulging disc in cervical and one in lumbar. All of this was in October. I got put back on prednisone two weeks ago. 20mg for six days ( I was having leg pain but when I got on it within 3 hours of taking the prednisone it was like I had the flu and it did that everytime I took it) My doctor keep telling me to take it.
or we could go by body weight % for the contest so it would be fair because the more you have to lose, the more you can lose, you know? (weight watchers goes in 10% weight loss incraments) I would like to lose 35 pounds, maybe 40... And then I would still not be skinny, but normal and within weight range. Can somone tell the trick-or-treaters to come early to get rid of all this candy in my house?
I was on prednisone for two months this winter and within two days of starting the prednisone, my itching stopped! I tapered off the prednisone three weeks ago and the itching is back full force! I started having trouble with knee pain about two months after I started on Lialda. I thought it was the start of old age setting in (47) so I've been going to the chiropractor to get my knees adjusted. It usually helps for about a month, then the pain sets in again.
I've seen pics of myself while i was on prednisone and it wasn't a pretty sight - moon face, swelling, puffiness, weight gain. I've often wondered if all that time on prednisone either exacerbated or sped up the hep-c. The last time i was on it for an extended period was between 1993 t0 1996. oh, and btw, the riba rage is very similar to the roid rage i used to get from the pred.
One of these days I am going to call a trainer..... I don't know about the prednisone you were taking as far as weight gain. All I know is that steriods do it and I gained 4 lbs. I haven't used any this week (wish I could, it seems like yours are okay on tx?) but I have seen others I know really put it on. Hope your poison oak is gone. I used to scratch so much I would be covered in imitigo and pus for weeks. Even now if I have itches I scratch in my sleep. Not a pretty sight.
It’s been over a year since I was weaned from the prednisone, but I am still gaining weight (up at least 30 pounds over 18-24 months). I increased my exercise over this time. I have always been active, but now I’m up to 40-70 minutes of cardio 4-5 times a week and 30-60 minutes of low weight, high rep weights 2-3 times a week.
It suppresses down the immune system. It is given for 10 days or 1 week at the dosage fo 10mg. I think is the lowest dosage. My RE give it to me and i think he wants to keep me on it during pregnancy to cause of my history of m/c.
Prednisone is an accepted treatment for pseudotumor cerebrii, but usually doctors are reluctant to give it to patients who are overweight due to the potential side effect of further weight gain, which is thought to be associated with pseudotumor - thus potentiating a vicious cycle. However, since you are: 1. unable to tolerate the first line or more traditional meds 2. you're obviously making great efforts to lose weight and get in shape 3.
Are any of these side effects something to be worried over. Other than the weight gain I didn't have them the last time I took Prednisone. I remember feeling crummy but the normal headaches I had disappeared, vision cleared up a bit, but it did take a while before I noticed any positive changes. Thanks for your responses!
My Dr. just started me on a 6 day course of Prednisone...I was wondering if the swelling/weight gain associated with it happens after long term use or if it will happen to me in the next few days? It is my Anniversary this weekend and I'd like to be healthy of couse, so I started taking it, however, I'd like to look attractive as well. If anyone knows how Prednisone affects one, please let me know! Thank you!
I am really concerned after reading everyone's comments on weight gain with Thyroid medications. I thought regulating my weight after surgery would be easier than trying with a cancerous thyroid. What is the problem? I am already overweight, though not obese. However, it seems that no one loses weight, just gains it. Help???
The funny thing is that I have a trainer and do at least 1 hour of cardio 7 days a week and still gained weight! I feel horrible. In fact, the weight gain is making me depressed. I would rather be thin and anxious than fat and chilled. I am in the process of tapering off it and and I feel like ****. It is horrible. I wish that others knew the truth of this horrible drug. The positive of drug is that it took away my anxiety and I felt great despite getting fat!
About 10 days after the third injection my face and neck started to swell. These injections are not suppose to be systemic, but no one can provide another answer for the swelling. I personally feel the injection went wrong and this is from the steroids. Has anyone ever experienced this - and how long before I look normal again?
s care and was referred to a dermatologist when she had no success. Weight gain is another huge problem. I have lost 34 pounds on Weight Watchers, but when I was put on high doses of prednisone, I knew there would be problems. I have used bursts of the drug for over 30 years to control exacerbated asthma. My WW instructor was a gem. She told me, "Eat filling fruit like apples with the skin on and oranges and pineapple.
hold water weight...and gained a lot more weight than I did on Prednisone. I am going to talk to my endo doctor about staying on Prednisone...they have to consider all my other issues....I don't think the Hydrocortisone is a fixer for Sarcoidosis....we need something that stays in the body...I was told the Hydrocortisone is only a 4 hour fix per pill...which means (for me) on 3 a day....I am only being covered for 12 of the 24 hours..... hope this gives you some answers...everyone is different.
I am on 60 mg/day for 5 days, then 40 mg/day for 5 days, and finally 20 mg/day for 5 days. Will the worst of any weight problems likely come on early? I need to travel next week and again the week after that, and hope not to be feeling all bloated and miserable on top of the stress that travel gives me. Plus it always helps to look and feel my best for presentations and such. I've worked very hard to lose almost 30 pounds in the last 3.
and i just wanted to know if any one been through this and what they felt and the results good or bad...im on prednisone for 17 days... i take a whole pill for 7 then half a pill for 10 and i do this everyday!!!...
I never had a weight problem. If I did gain weight, it fell off of me in a week. After the Vasculitis my weight kept climbing up, and I had difficulty losing it. In fact, it was next to impossible to lose the weight and it kept creeping up. In addition, my blood sugar was creeping up, slowly, but it was creeping. Now, I know the Hep C caused the Vasculitis. What I do not know is what effect the steroids had on the viral load. No one knew I had Hep C in 1993 so no one was testing my VL.
i am active on a high level for 2 hours 5 days a week... and i am still seeing the weight in my stomach were prednisone has taken over. my moon face is semi-gone.. but i still have some fluid it looks like... Thanks.
It's been very hard to just get gulps of air.... Sigh. So Prednisone went in at 7 am today. I've been terrified that I'd have to take the Prednisone - for fear of "reactivating" the HepC virus... But because Dr. D said once you are SVR - the disease is "gone"... I've calmed down a little bit. Now... I'm a bit concerned... But what will be will be.... Unfortunately I like breathing and can't live on THAT many medications just to do it.
2nd to Jan. 25th. As I was experiencing more and more side effects from the Prednisone (weight gain, moonface, bruising, fingers cracking open and bleeding), I took it upon myself to keep reducing the Prednisone - this time tapered as by then I'd done more research - until I reached 20mg/day (still did it fairly quickly, over a period of a couple of weeks).
but meds affect people in all different ways I just started taking it for pcos and insulin resistance has only been a couple days so far so Ill let you all know, but pcos cause weight gain and the insulin resistance causes the pcos so the insulin resistance is treated first with metformin which should help with the weight loss because you need to loose weight in order for the pcos to get better and the resistance problem goes away......................
Water is a great idea -- I don't drink enough and I can feel the difference in my weight and I just feel heavier. My weight went up about 15 pounds from my up and down prednisone and not being active and feeling so miserable all those months -- because I didn't eat food, only sweets and sugary snacks. That's all going to change for me too!
As a temporary measure, you could receive parenteral nutrition (receive calories and nutrients intravenously) to facilitate weight gain. As a longterm response, you may need placement of a jejunal feeding tube (nutrients are placed directly into the small intestine). A nasogastric tube can be used to drain the stomach but not for providing nutrition. Placement of food down the nasogastric tube still means that the food is in the stomach.
Prednisone is notorious for it's ability to cause a false sense of well-being. But.., it also has the potential to cause abnormal heart rhythms in itself, along with some other nasty side-effects. Beta-blockers seem to work fairly well for alot of people here from what I've seen, but not well for me. Toprol wiped me out, and Sectral made my PVC's much worse, though my Cardio thought that it was the med-anxiety taking the Sectral that triggered the increase.
I just took a pregnancy test this morning and it came out negative. :( I am 10 days post a 5 day embryo transfer and I have had no pregnancy symptoms what so ever. I cried when I saw the 1 line of the Early Response Pregnancy test my beta isn't until Wed but I am feeling pretty low and doubt very seriously that I am pregnant but I wanted to see if anyone else had tested negative on a hpt 10 or more days after a 5 day ET but tested positive at their blood test?
However, as I am still binging, my weight gain is astronomical (something I cannot tolerate due to the eating disorder). It is approximately 10 to 14 pounds in a week. As a result, I panic and reduce the steroids to 5 mg in the course of a week. It then takes only a few days for all my symtoms, currently painful recurring partial small bowel obstruction, to reoccur. At which point, the pain becaoes intolerable and I go back to 60mg steroids for some almost instant relief.
