I've taken Prednisone for years with no side effects, so I can't answer on a personal level, but if your neuro told you to stop it if you got any of the listed side effects, then I HIGHLY recommend that you stop taking it, and CALL HIM IMMEDIATELY and let him know what your reactions were. It'll help him treat your condition better.
I had 5 days of IV solumedrol -- in the hospital, given every 6 hours. I had no problems, except lack of sleep, mostly a result of the hospital noise & 6-hr intervals. I will say that my blood sugar went up several times (I'm NOT diabetic), and I got insulin injections when it happened. I was told this is not unusual with IVSM, so if you get put on it, DO ask for blood sugar (finger-stick) testing. I'm not sure how the testing is handled if you are not an inpatient.
The more I read about prednisone, the more bad stories I hear about these side effects. It is not the med for everybody. USE WITH CAUTION!
racing heart - I lost about 5 lbs in 3 days. skin sensitive to the touch. feeling like I was beat up with a baseball bat on my back. shaking. and feeling like my achilles tendon was going to rip off. Just try to relax and take it easy. I hope all goes good for you.
What did the savella side effects do to some people i hear they are horrible?
However not ALL people experience side effects from this drug. But yes indeed this med can cause anxiety, agitation, heart racing, insomina, weakness and the list goes on....Just research this drug and you will see. Corticosteroid medications such as prednisone do have many possible side effects. Increased heart rate, sweating and nervousness are fairly common with these medications. Other common side effects include difficulty sleeping, vertigo, increased appetite, indigestion, and mood changes. The prednisone should be out of your system a couple of days after your last dose. You should consult your physician as soon as possible if you are still experiencing these symptoms.
I KID YOU NOT...I have gained 5 pounds since yesterday!! Are any of these side effects something to be worried over. Other than the weight gain I didn't have them the last time I took Prednisone. I remember feeling crummy but the normal headaches I had disappeared, vision cleared up a bit, but it did take a while before I noticed any positive changes. Thanks for your responses!
they are icky...i've gained 20lbs in 5 months, grown facial hair and haven't had a good night's sleep in months which has led to depression and anxiety issues.
One of the serious side effects of prednisone is severe depression, unusual thoughts or behavior, and seizures (convulsions). and if you experience any of these you should contact your provider for guidance. Some of the lesser side effects of prednisone are sleep problems (insomnia), and mood changes, which will often dissipate after taking the medication for a short period of time. Fluoxetine is an antidepressant in a group of drugs called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs).
you are holding an ACE of spades and when its time to come off the drug it'll be time to show your cards. I wish you nothing but the best!!
but without the part that causes jitters and increased heart rate (it doesn't work for me but it does work for many people without all the side effects).
She was like a guinea pig and now, 8 years after, she is living with side effects that have never gone : hypotension (around 8), fainding every day, unbearable headaches, kidney pyelonephritis every months, and an exhausting fatigue that keep her in her bed sometimes several days, where she can hardly eat alone. Before that, she was so full of life, making car races, flying planes, being a model for photographes, and photographer herself.

5 weeks ago I took one day's dose of the Prednisolone pack (6 pills). By 1:30 am I felt like my body was going into "distress". I had overwhelmingly cold waves going down my body; my arms were cold/numb spots/aching; buzzing fingertips; upper back and upper abdominal muscles tightening; constant urinating (some diarrhea); heart sort of racing; an overall "buzzing" feeling; feet cold and clammy.
Hi, Thanks for responding but this didn't really answer my question. I am being treated for the headaches & ear pain w/ the Prednisone. I am wanting answers on what could be causing my headache & ear pain. I am aware of the side effects of Prednisone.
My guess is that what you're experiencing IS from teh prednisone and should dissipate in a few days. I've been on prednisone quite often in my life and I also experience the same thing sometimes - my face will get beet red, feel hot to the touch (but I'm not running a fever) and will feel tight and dry.
It may be worth noting that over a month ago I was diagnosed with Asthma (which I never had) after three bouts of shortness of breath and given 6 days of prednisone (50 mg/day). I only took 3 days worth as I got that moon face and the side effects were horrible (much like the recent symptoms but times 50) and I also had the same reaction to the only 1mg of dexamethasone? If it lowered my cortisol, what else could cause that reaction because I honestly thought it upped it when I felt that way?
The top of my head felt like it was going to explode, Pressure behind my eyes, chills, heart racing and throat swelling. I was lucky I had prednisone to take or I would have ended up in the ER. I haven't went back to my Dr. yet because I am afraid to take any thyroid medication. This was a very scary experience.
I don't want the iodine treatment because I'm afraid of side effects with my heart and I'm not yet convinced this is the best treatment. Very afraid of the cancer coming back and possible death from this. Please answer my post. Thank you.
Not sure I want to take the predisone, even though it's low dose (40mg total daily x 5 days), because I am a nurse and don't want to catch any more infections, or experience anymore side effects. Eventually my dr. wants me to continue with low dose Tindamax for the soft shelled eggs (eww), and he saus there's no other treatment to get rid of them other than Flagyl, which is just as nasty as Tindamax.
I bet you'll get your answer this way really. SECOND. Check out Advair side effects. Some people have mentioned racing hearts or something- however one might expect non athletes with lung problems to have rapidly beating hearts I say that compassionately. The oxygen from the lungs when it's too low may irriate the heart and it can, if we don't treat the airways- well it can hurt the heart.
I was supposed to take 6 pills yesterday but only took 4 as after the 1st 3 my heart was racing and i felt dizzy and out of it like my chiari makes me feel. My chiari dizziness has been better lately... so im thinking its the pred that make me feel crazy! I also had a 2 hour anxiety/crying spell last nite and have NO idea why! Again.. im thinking it was the meds! Anyone take this stuff with their chiari? Does it affect our brains or is it safe to take?

I have researched and have found everything from Meniere's to labyrinthitis. In conjunction I do believe I feel anxious/stress/panicky with heart racing when I get the dizziness feelings. A dizzy spell happened most recently on a flight over the holidays. I truly appreciate your time reading this and your input. The anxious feelings in play with the head, drainage, headaches have an effect on my day to day routine and work. Thank you again.
There are many different drugs that are used in the attempt to keep the heart in sinus rhythm (SR) but as with any medication they all have various side-effects. You doctor can work with you on finding the best drug for your case. Q: What are the side effects to Toprol. A: Toprol XL is a long acting version of metoprolol. This drug is a beta-blocker. Potential side-effects of beta-blockers include fatigue, problems with diabetic control, and impotence.
We were discussing the vaccine not long ago and, from what I read, it is supposed to be relatively safe with little chance of side effects. That being said, any vaccines should probably not be given to an animal with an already compromised immune system. Given a choice, I would probably opt to not give this vaccine and know that you sharing your experience may help someone in the future. Levaquin is not the best antibiotic to treat pneumonia, and has many side effects. In any event, it is not unusual for there to be an increase in the severity and incidence of asthmatic attacks after a lung infection. Asthma attacks that only happen at night suggest a possible cardiac problem. Not necessarily. But a stree test is indicated. Asthmatic attacks are precipitated because of a super-sensitive immune system, so it is not surprising that some asthmatics also have allergy problems.
