Plavix vs lipitor

Common Questions and Answers about Plavix vs lipitor

plavix

Avatar n tn Hi, Yes, there is a possibility to have a heart attack even though you are taking plavix and lipitor. Plavix prevents clot formation, while lipitor reduces plaque formation with in the vessels, but do not completely stop them from occurring. And this inturn depends upon various other factors like smoking, alcohol, life style, physical activity, long standing chronic conditions like hypertension, diabetes etc. Best.
Avatar n tn A healing leg (just out of cast) prohibits stress testing and the dr said he wouldn’t get the results he wanted anyway. I take aspirin 325, plavix, 80mg lipitor, protonix (just to protect stomach), 10mg zetia, capoten 25mg 3x, imdur 60mg 2x. I did have high blood pressure (150+/80+ p90) but am now unexplainably low 80/60 p 60 while on same meds. My question is – what do I do now?. Could these new stents possibly be failing?
Avatar n tn t take plavix in the morning and in the evening take lopressor 50mg and lipitor 80mg. I had been at least 4 hours since i took these two medication lopressor and lipitor. Is it ok to take zantac 150mg for heart burn .
Avatar n tn I take plavix, lipitor, toprol-xl & diovan. Have been taking them for 2 1/2 years after stent implantation. Any ideas on how long you should be left on each of these..or are they classified as 'health maintenance'. No real side effects to speak of.

Avatar m tn Just had a second Angio in 10 mts with some blockage found on the distal side of the stent in the LAD. Cardio says I have to take my cocktail of Plavix, Metoprolol, Lipitor, Niaspan, Asprin for life. Is that par for the course? Does anyone know if there have been any long term studies done to see what the side effects of these meds are? I'm taking Dilantin for a seizure disorder which has caused serious lasting side effects.
Avatar n tn You need the heart medication and Plavix and it would be risking to stop the Plavix. Lipitor is good for studies have shown that it has helped reduce cholesterol buildup in the arteries. The studies showed that 40mg was just as good as 80mg and that 80mg did not help reduce the cholesterol buildup any more than the 40mg. One question I have, is the nitro patch. Are you having chest pains? Nitro is not good for your liver.
482517 tn?1208551378 After a DES in my Circumflex, how long is it neccessary to take plavix? Will aspirin do the trick as well? Dr says we can stop it "...if I want to take my chances..." (not a good answer) What's the longest anyone's taken (taking) it w/no probs? Lastly, if I have restenosis, or a throw a clot in my Circumflex, would it be over or is that a "secondary" area?
1274110 tn?1270788561 I have taken Ranexa for about a year, and along with some of the medications you take. These include Lipitor, Coreg, Lasix, Plavix, 81 mg aspirin, Protonix. I still take Imdur as well. I have had no increase in GERD or heartburn. Given the large cocktail of drugs, have you given thought to requesting your pharmacy to key out the possible drug interactions? I found Ranexa really helps control my angina.
Avatar n tn 72yr old Female[my mom], had stent 1 1/2yrs ago, 60% occluded other side, is on plavix, lipitor [LDL-130, HDL-55], atenolol, is in cardiac rehab, lost 18lbs, but remains obese. She is asymptomatic. She wants to go off plavix to have torn meniscus repair and gyn sugery for stress incontinence. Docs been saying "no" for last six months. My dad pressed them to due repeat stress test to see if she is" OK" , because he wants her to get knee done.{She's in pain}.
Avatar f tn I don't know about "normal," but if the regimen of warfarin and Plavix is working for you, then great. Your goal is to find something that works. Have you been tested for clotting disorders? Your story makes me wonder about that, especially if the stroke happened to be due to a clot.
Avatar m tn Structual collapse of a stent would indicate an improper size or defect. I discontinued plavix after year, and I have never heard of plavix associated with a collapsed stent! There may be a misunderstanding.
Avatar n tn ve been on niaspam and my dr. thinks I should change to lipitor because of the new drug studies on lipitor. I am a perfect weight, and i'm 63 with no incidents of heart attack but my arteries do show significant arterilosclerosis. I feel healthy and seem great so far! any advice appreciated.
Avatar n tn Severe joint and back pain usually is not a side effect of Plavix. Coumadin is more powerful than Plavix. The Plavix is important to take especially if you have coated stents. You may want to be checked for arthritis that may be flaring up. Coumadin is not to be used in persons with high cholesterol.
Avatar f tn Any information would be helpful/I have had open heart surgery and a mitral valve replacement, stents, 2heart attacks, and coronary artery disease. im on warfarin, lipitor and plavix. im looking for other things to do to improve my heart health, like going to gym, eliminating salt intake and dietry changes and im just concerned with safety and drug interactions.will taking fish oil, flaxseed, and making parsley herbal tea be safe or should they be avoided?.
Avatar n tn there are alot of variables when it comes to medications vs. alcohol vs. a variety of diseases.....a simple call to the doc should clear it up for you because its always better to be safer than sorry......
Avatar n tn I was percribed Lipitor, 40mg. I have been breaking them in half and now see you should not do that. I can not swollow pills and dissolve most in my mouth with water. Why can't I do that with the lipitor? I have been trying to swollow them but by the time I get them down they are pretty much dissoved. I can't find an answer on line.
Avatar n tn We both - husband and wife, have been experiencing these symptoms. We have been on simvastatin for (wife for 1+ years, me for 2+ years) and stopped about 5-6 months ago - wife still having pains in the butt some dizziness and leg pain, but getting better - I am having butt pain and leg pains, swollen left knee, (but joint pain seems OK on stairs), recovery seems slower than my wife's.

Avatar f tn I'm 45 years old an had bypass surgery 8 weeks ago. I haven't been able to sleep without an Ambien(sleeping pill) for the last 5 weeks. I was wondering how long it may be before I can sleep without a pill. I'm currently taking Toprol, Iron, 81 Asprin, Plavix, Primovel and Lipitor. My doctor wants to change my Lipitor to Vytorin. I have heard the Vyrotin doesn't work. Any thoughts? Also how long do the grafts last in your heart? Mine were taken out of my leg.
