690060 tn?1247841741 Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has new data showing that omeprazole (Prilosec/Prilosec OTC)—a medicine used to reduce stomach acid—reduces the anti-blood clotting effect of clopidogrel (Plavix) by almost half when these two medicines are taken by the same patient." "...Patients using clopidogrel should consult with their healthcare provider if they are currently taking or considering taking omeprazole, including Prilosec OTC" but then, there's also this: http://www.
Avatar n tn I had angioplasty in 2001 and had a stent implant. My cardiologist prescribed Plavix and 81 mg aspirin daily among the other medications (beta blocker, ACE inhibitor, statin). I have recently moved to a new city and have not found a new cardiologist yet but family physician suggested that Plavix could be discontinued as the guidelines have changed and no long recommended after 12 months post stent implant. Suggestions please?
Avatar m tn According to the FDA plavix should not be take with prilosec or nexium. I'm not sure about any other ppi. Ask your Cardio or GI doc. They should be able to give you the infor you need. I am taking plavix and was on nexium. Had to go off it because of the FDA findings. Am now on pepcid You can also look on the FDA website for more info on that. Good luck.
Avatar n tn a peck and a hug around the neck, boy that brings back some memories, now about the indigestion, that would depend on how long you have been on the Plavix, and also besides the obvious blood thinning action of Plavix what brought you to be on it? I recieved a heart stent in 09' and they put me on it then along with the aspirin. This year my doctor said that I could now go back on prilosec. The gov.
Avatar f tn I don't know about "normal," but if the regimen of warfarin and Plavix is working for you, then great. Your goal is to find something that works. Have you been tested for clotting disorders? Your story makes me wonder about that, especially if the stroke happened to be due to a clot.
Avatar m tn Structual collapse of a stent would indicate an improper size or defect. I discontinued plavix after year, and I have never heard of plavix associated with a collapsed stent! There may be a misunderstanding.
Avatar n tn Severe joint and back pain usually is not a side effect of Plavix. Coumadin is more powerful than Plavix. The Plavix is important to take especially if you have coated stents. You may want to be checked for arthritis that may be flaring up. Coumadin is not to be used in persons with high cholesterol.
Avatar n tn there are alot of variables when it comes to medications vs. alcohol vs. a variety of diseases.....a simple call to the doc should clear it up for you because its always better to be safer than sorry......
1210142 tn?1266077031 I have used Pantoprazole and Plavix since 8/2008. My cardiologist took me off Prilosec due to concerns of interaction with Plavix. I'm also on aspirin, ramipril, and metoprolol. I started having moderate chest pains in Nov/Dec 2012 and my BP spiked to 150/110 max with a 130/90 min. I had also noticed that my blood was clotting almost instantly after a wound. I have a cat with claws so blood-letting is common in my home.
391274 tn?1210627865 An ENT diagnosed me with LPRD and prescribed Prilosec 20mg/2 day. But, if anything, that seemed to make it worse after 2 weeks of use(is that even possible?). I've done some tests (barium swallow, st xray) but things in that dept. seem normal. Is it possible that there could be a correlation between the surgery my newfound UGI problems? More specifically, could it be my post op treatment (Plavix 75mg 1/day, Aspirin 325mg 1/day) causing this to happen? If so, what are my options?
Avatar m tn FDA is alerting the public to new safety information concerning an interaction between clopidogrel (Plavix), an anti-clotting medication, and omeprazole (Prilosec/Prilosec OTC), a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) used to reduce stomach acid. New data show that when clopidogrel and omeprazole are taken together, the effectiveness of clopidogrel is reduced.
Avatar m tn The recommended treatment for DES implants is dual therapy of aspirin and plavix up to a year. Combining plavix and aspirin increases the risk of bleeding vs. aspirin alone in patients treated for more than a brief period of time. That is the regimen followed for my DES implant. f you are in this category a prior MI and unstable angina:" In the CAPRIE trial, clopidogrel (plavix) was equivalent to aspirin for patients with a recent (but not acute) MI.
Avatar n tn It seems plavix helps reduce the risk for clots at implant site, and after a year the risk of clots is less than the risk of excessive bleeding with plavix. After a year discontinued plavix and remain on a baby aspirin. Several months ago after some dental work there was excessive bleeding for hours on a baby aspirin...so I'm not cool with large doses of anti-platelet meds. Warfarin can cause very serious (possibly fatal) bleeding.
Avatar f tn If Prilosec is ordered QD, can a nurse give it in the morning for GI upset, if it is normally given at bedtime?
Avatar f tn Could Plavix and asprin be used together to help with stroke prevention or is Plavix just as dangerous and Xeralto and Pradaxa?
255163 tn?1376869746 If so, did you ever have surgery where you had to stop the plavix for 7days. If your completly off the plavix, when were you able to stop it after the coated stents were put in?
709686 tn?1277432159 maybe a little weight loss. Omeprazole (Prilosec or Zegerid) causes me all kinds of problems. Headache, chest pain, red/irritated eyes, all kinds of body aches, constipation and extreme thrist. Problem is...protonix is by script only and VERY EXPENSIVE! Someone talk to me about this. Has anyone else experienced these problems with Omeprazole?
315318 tn?1353251800 Well, plavix is coming off patent next year so the cost should come down substantially. In my case though, I got a DES placed in my LAD in December 2009. My cardio said, I am not responsive to Plavix, but not to worry. Start taking this new related medication called Effient. Effient, however, comes with greater chance of bleeding and it is expensive.
Avatar n tn There have been many successful interventions without plavix. I think your doctor to suggest a bypass to avoid plavix is off the chart. With a (DES) stent there is dual therapy recommended for up to a year. This helps a very small percentage (less than 2%) who may have restenosis (another blockage with blood clot).
Avatar n tn t be done due to severe rotator cuff tear that cannot be repaired because it would mean coming of Plavix. Heart vs shoulder - heart wins!
Avatar m tn ve seen comments with all kinds of opinions comparing the effectiveness of different forms of Prilosec (generic name omeprazole). But that are usually prescription brand-vs-generic, or OTC (non-prescription) brand-vs-generic. What I am looking for is real-life experiences from people who have moved from PRILOSEC OTC to GENERIC RX OMEPRAZOLE, or vice versa. I've been taking PRILOSEC OTC (non-prescription) for quite awhile, after years on the original prescription brand Prilosec.
