Common Questions and Answers about Plavix prescribing information

plavix

Avatar n tn For drug eluding stents (DES) it is recommended for a year or more to help prevent restenosis, but there is some evidence of clots thereafter... So there are some in the medical community that may not be comfortable with prescribing plavix for just a year. There have been studies that show that plavix has little to no benefit after a year. But the issue continues to be controversial. I was on plavix for a year then discontinued.
Avatar n tn An erradic heart rate at rest can be a problem (coreg should correct that problem). Many doctors discontinue prescribing plavix as there is a higher risk of excessive bleeding. Cardiac cachexia is unintentional severe weight loss caused by heart disease. Even with a very good appetite and high calorie intake, some people with heart failure lose muscle mass. That can be explained as heart failure may cause blood to back up into the liver and intestines, and they may swell.
Avatar f tn I thought that is was due to the medications that he was taking so I called his PCP and ask him he said that he was not sure but the next time he is in the office he will look at it and see. But my question is he takes plavix, aspirin, lisinopril, Zocor, Zoloft, Coreg, lithium, and methadone. I took him off the lithium thinking that was the cause because after doing research sleeping all the time was something major with that drug.
Avatar m tn t know anything about larfe study but i hope someone will definitely tell you about it very soon as it is best forum for providing better solutions and information very quickly and after getting that information here it will also help me to know about it...
Avatar m tn Structual collapse of a stent would indicate an improper size or defect. I discontinued plavix after year, and I have never heard of plavix associated with a collapsed stent! There may be a misunderstanding.
Avatar n tn There seems to be conflicting information about taking Plavix if you are on aspirin therapy. My father does not have any current heart condition, but felt a twinge and was going to go in for a test. In preparation for the test, or just as a precaution, he was put on Plavix even though he was on aspirin therapy. He does not have high blood pressure and is diabetic. Before the test could be performed, he had a massive gastrointestinal bleed.
Avatar n tn I have seen no recent studies that recommends plavix for the long term...does your doctor rely different published information? Thanks for sharing, but I would ask the doctor how plavix is justified for a long term even without a digestive disorder. Do you have a blood clotting disorder?
Avatar m tn ) In the UK, Aspirin / Plavix is normally 75mg each daily. Plavix is given minimum 2-3 years now and in many cases has been decided it's best for life, depending on the patient. I have no idea what the circumstances are that decide 'life' but I have a couple of friends who have been told they will never be off the drug. I've been told I will be reviewed in 2 years. Maybe it's a cardiologist decision rather than a country guideline?
Avatar n tn After that length of time it is generally believed to discontinue plavix but remain on aspirin. Although plavix and aspirin are anti-platelet agents, plavix has a different mechanism of action that seems to be specialized for drug eluding stent to prevent restenosis. Laviquin is an antibiotic medication! and there is a class-action suit against Laviqiin providers that is currently unresolved.
Avatar m tn Usually when there is a drug eluding stent implant there is a plavix regimen for up to a year to help prevent a blood clot. I have been reading posts were plavix is given for a lifetime, etc. and I find no published medical study or literature that supports giving plavix other than what I have stated. Does your doctor provide a reason? You have an option to get an explanation from your doctor and/or get a second opinion...
Avatar f tn The most important information you should know about PLAVIX is it can cause A blood clotting problem called Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (TTP). TTP can happen with PLAVIX, sometimes after a short time (less than 2 weeks). TTP is a blood clotting problem where blood clots form in blood vessels; and can happen anywhere in the body. TTP needs to be treated in a hospital right away, because it may cause death.
Avatar n tn Severe joint and back pain usually is not a side effect of Plavix. Coumadin is more powerful than Plavix. The Plavix is important to take especially if you have coated stents. You may want to be checked for arthritis that may be flaring up. Coumadin is not to be used in persons with high cholesterol.
Avatar n tn my husband had cabg on aug 30 we are wanting to know taking plavix and carvedilol can he drink alcohol on new years
Avatar f tn I looked up more detailed information on Plavix and about 1% to 2.5% of patients may get anxiety or insomnia from Plavix. So it's possible that your insomnia could be caused by the Plavix.
Avatar n tn my daughter is 37. she was put on plavix 75mg. will this cause her sugars to run low at times?she does take insulin.
315318 tn?1353251800 Well, plavix is coming off patent next year so the cost should come down substantially. In my case though, I got a DES placed in my LAD in December 2009. My cardio said, I am not responsive to Plavix, but not to worry. Start taking this new related medication called Effient. Effient, however, comes with greater chance of bleeding and it is expensive.
Avatar f tn I have been given Plavix and aspirin from the onset and I am still on it. I have been experiencing muscle weakness and numbness/tingling to left side of body and I worry that it is another TIA but then consider that it could also be a side-effect of Lipitor. Is there a contraindication for taking all these drugs at the same time given my medical history? thanks for any info you can provide.
Avatar f tn I understand you being on Plavix for your heart, and you should remain on it. But I am very surprised to hear that your husband is still on Coumadin for a clot 3 years ago. Is this clot the only reason he takes it? My daughter had a blood clot due to a very serious car accident, but once her injuries healed, she no longer had to take anything. He needs to address this with his doctor, and ask why he still has to take it.
Avatar n tn Nspower, I almost always hesitate to discuss an individual's medication for lack of knowledge regarding biochemical interaction with the human system and no information regarding an individual's health history, etc.. The doctor should have the necessary information to make the right decision.
