Plavix drug class

Common Questions and Answers about Plavix drug class

plavix

Avatar n tn I've followed this research, and from what I've learned the drug interaction of Plavix and PPI's (proton pump inhibitors) is not not that strong. I doubted the report from the start as I took Plavix and PPI's and my blood was as thin as tea, I bruised very, very easily, and the blood tests to determine my clotting factor wasn't changed by taking the two drugs.
Avatar n tn After that length of time it is generally believed to discontinue plavix but remain on aspirin. Although plavix and aspirin are anti-platelet agents, plavix has a different mechanism of action that seems to be specialized for drug eluding stent to prevent restenosis. Laviquin is an antibiotic medication! and there is a class-action suit against Laviqiin providers that is currently unresolved.
Avatar n tn I stopped Plavix - 3 days later ALT 124, AST 21. Before Plavix ALT 14, AST 18, platelets 281K. PCP dx is drug-induced hepatitis due to Plavix. While I agree Plavix caused me problems, my RUQ episode was textbook biliary colic. 4 years ago after pregnancy I had a week of clay-colored stools and RUQ pain after eating potato chips. No labs were done and US found no stones. I avoided fatty foods for years and had no other problems until now.
255163 tn?1376869746 Following this I was on Plavix for 3 months. Another patient in the same cardiac rehab class was the same - Plavix for 3 months, and yet another is still taking Plavix and has been told to continue taking it. Maybe a difference of opinion with our ccrdiologists although maybe it depends on what type of stent you have .
Avatar n tn Some doctors recommend 1 to 2 years on Plavix with coated stents. Other doctors recommend being on Plavix for the rest of the persons life. It is extremely important that you stay on Plavix for as long as your doctor recommends. Going off of Plavix could mean a blood clot with a severe heart attack. You will need to talk to your doctor to find out how urgent it is to have the skin cancers removed and cataract done. Replacing the 2 wire pacemaker with the 3 wire pacemaker is a surgery.
Avatar n tn I have a drug eluting stent implanted in 2006. I have now been on Plavix and aspirin for over three years. The cardiologist says I will be on it for "life". If the use of Plavix and aspirin can be eliminated after 2 to 4 months of the implantation of a bare metal stent, why can't Plavix and aspirin be eliminated after a year? At what point does the drug eluting process stop so that the drug eluting stent becaomes the same as a bare metal stent?
Avatar m tn There are some cardiologists who argue it should be taken for life. Why? because some patients have developed clots in drug eluting stents when plavix has been stopped, even after a year. Some people seem more prone to this than others and the reasons have yet to be identified. I think it's just a choice of words problem here, collapse is being used as in failing to perform its intended task.
Avatar m tn About 4 years ago during a routine Echo stress we discovered I had blockage in the LAD and diagonal. I had drug-eluting stents put in and I have been on 75MG Plavix, 50MG Toprol XL, 81mg aspirin, and 80mg simvastatin ever since. I never had any symptoms and I still have none. Just wondering about a professional opinion about being on these medications for life as well as the efficacy of generic drugs. I obviously am also concerned about possible restenosis in the stents.
Avatar n tn I have three drug eluting stents in the LAD, two non-drug eluting stents and three drug eluting stents in my RCA. I stayed on Plavix for 1.5 years after the last stent, and been off Plavix for over a year with no restinosis. I do exercise daily, take Vytorin, 81mg aspirin, and follow a healthy heart diet very carefully. So far, no problems with restenosis, but believe me, I think about it every day.
Avatar n tn Warfarin (coumadin): Because of the increased risk of bleeding, the concomitant administration of Warfarin with Plavix should be undertaken with caution. (See PRECAUTIONS - General.) At high concentrations in vitro, clopidogrel inhibits P450 (C).
Avatar m tn I have both bare-metal and drug eluding stents in place, four of each, and took Plavix for twelve years. I was asked to take the drug not only to keep clots from forming in my stents, but also to maximize blood flow in what are called collateral arteries, little ones that develop to help supply damaged areas of the heart. I recently had bypass surgery that was extremely successful, and have been taken off Plavix as I have no angina symptoms at all.
Avatar m tn t recall the name of, and also took gorilla doses of Plavix. It was told to me that each drug approaches clotting in different ways, and in my case was vital to avoiding a heart attack. The bruises simply mean that the drugs are working and your Cardiologist is taking very good care of you, in my opinion. Listen to you your doctor, however, don't pay much attention to us.
255163 tn?1376869746 If so, did you ever have surgery where you had to stop the plavix for 7days. If your completly off the plavix, when were you able to stop it after the coated stents were put in?
Avatar n tn My husband has a pacemaker and 8 metal stents. He's been taking Coumadin and Plavix for the past 4-5 years since his last stent was put in. Recently he was rushed to the hospital with blood in his vomit and stools. They said he had last 60% of his blood and immediately preceeded to give him blood, total 9 pints. After much reading up on ulcers and his medicine's side-effects, we discovered that Plavix causes ulcers. He was bleeding from a huge ulcer in his stomach.
Avatar m tn t have as it pertains to restenosis with drug eluding stents. Then the regimen of choice is dual therapy of aspirin and plavix for about a year and then aspirin alone. Do you have a specific condition that requires all the blood thinning medication? I take a baby coated aspirin, and bleed for several hours after a dental procedure, It is not typical for that much anti-platelet...high risk for internal bleeding; hit head you could bleed to death rather having a minor injury.
Avatar f tn In some people, especially people who already have low heart rates, this class of drug can induce syncope (fainting) or near syncope. These episodes and be very distressing because they may be accompanied by hours or days of nausea. Also can be dangerous. Your friend should see his doctor and ask to be put on a different class of BP med. Also beta-blockers should not be discontinued without a weaning off process.
976897 tn?1379167602 I should have mentioned, Ed, I developed an unusually severe bruising/bleeding problem. My arms started looking like the sky looks like inside the arctic circle on a January evening. Even the slightest scrape or tap was causing my arms to bruise. It is believed the combination of fish oil, aspirin and Plavix led to this problem. Plavix was the obvious first drug to be eliminated. I don't have a history of restinosis and it appears 81mg aspirin is my most efficient drug.
Avatar f tn Hi. I'm just about two & a half weeks post cardiac ablation for focal atrial tachycardia. Has anyone been on Colperdogil (also known as Plavix). I'm allergic to aspirin so I'm on this drug instead, for 6 weeks. My question is...what side effects did you get? My BP is now 85/50 & I think the drug has caused it to drop so low. My BP dropped to 89/53 as soon as they gave me the drug in recovery.
Avatar f tn I don't know about "normal," but if the regimen of warfarin and Plavix is working for you, then great. Your goal is to find something that works. Have you been tested for clotting disorders? Your story makes me wonder about that, especially if the stroke happened to be due to a clot.
1494708 tn?1299152506 I had a drug-eluding stint placed about two months ago. I am on plavix and aspirin. I've been feeling terrible and getting worse. I been feeling very high strung all day long. At night I have bad dreams. After last night's bad dream, I woke up with the worst feeling of despair I ever had in my life. It was like doom and dread. I cried out for god to help me. I never felt anything this intense before. I was afraid I was going to die but at the same time I wanted to. Just to end it.
Avatar f tn Can being on plavix and asprin daily for 3 years cause blood in the urine---all testing shows nothing wrong anywhere.
Avatar m tn I have a high deductibule ins policy I have found several web sights that offer generic Plavix or [clopidogrel] that is suginifantly cheeper than brand name Plavix Will the generic work as good as plavix? Or is it just a plasebo?
Avatar n tn My neurosurgeon says I need to go off Plavix for 6 weeks prior to surgery. I am very concerned about going off Plavix since past thrombosis and nearly dying. Can someone tell me the risk percentages for thrombosis if you had it prior. My wife would like for me to hold off of surgery until absolutely necessary or they come up with more info on Plavix. Thank you for your help.
