Plavix and vit k

Common Questions and Answers about Plavix and vit k

plavix

Avatar n tn I have heard that there is some problem mixing vitamin K with a blood thinner. I am taking 75 mg of plavix and cannot find anything about the vitamin K interaction. I need additional calcium, and the brand I am looking at taking would give me 40mcg of vitamin K. Is this safe or a problem? Where can I find how much vitamin K is in a serving of broccoli or spinich?
Avatar n tn > Coumadin and Plavix are both anti-platelet agents as well as aspirin that might just be a typo, but I'll go ahead anyway and point out that Coumadin is not antiplatelet, it's an anticoagulant. It works as a vitamin K antagonist, and vit K is necessary for the synthesis of prothrombin and Factor VII.
329994 tn?1301663248 You must get a bleeding time, clotting time done and must reduce the dose or go off Plavix and take an alternative, after consulting a cardiologist. If Plavix is not the only cause then bruises could be due to internal bleeding from torn capillaries. The other possible reasons are low platelet count, clotting disorders, fragile spider veins, deep vein thrombus, deficiency of Vitamin B12, folic acid, or Vit K, a liver disease or certain cancers (less likely in your case).
Avatar m tn Even if there is no direct interaction between Plavix and Vitamin K, is it known whether vitamin K will still act to promote clotting in the presence of Plavix?
535822 tn?1443976780 I had my Sprouts health news letter yesterday and up popped a little article about a Vit I have never thought about...Vit K..... research shows that healthy humans , could supplement with phylloquinone (K1) for you who didnt know that ...and have less coronary calcification , a predictor of cardiovascular disease, than those who don't take this vitamin...the other interesting article was regarding taking Magnesium as that also is a heart protectant michronutrient.
Avatar f tn My husband was diagnosed with PAD in Feb 2009, had PTA with stenosis in R Femoral artery, Plavix & ASA 81mg daily for 2 weeks post-op. 1 year later in Feb 2010 had recurrent claudication and another PTA in which stent was still viable. Increased Plavix & ASA 81mg to daily, indefinitely... Oct 2010 developed vertigo and high bp averaging 150/115...diagnosed with labyrinthitis, given steroid injection, Meclizine 25mg for acute vertigo, and Diazepam 2mg for sleep depriving vertigo.
1210142 tn?1266077031 I have read a lot about the interaction between Plavix and PPI’s but he thinks only Omeprazole have more effect on Plavix, not Pantoprazole. Please, let me know what your opinion is and have you heard about any interaction between those two? I don’t need an additional heart attack.
Avatar f tn calcium stones are not directly correlated to vit d or calcium, i haven t checked all the studies on this but studies shown that vit d deficiency promotes more kidneys stones the main reason of kidneys stones is probably vit k deficiency, if you want to prevent use vit k2 mk7 200-600mcg daily, i use 600mcg because i take a very high dose of d3
Avatar m tn Just read about Osteo K with 45 MG of Vitamin K. Is this a good and safe alternative for Fosamax?
Avatar m tn anyway they re right on calcium and partially wrong on vit D, vitamin k2 mk4 or mk7 is what can fix calcium to bones (other minerals are also more important than calcium) and lower fractures, there are some triasl with results on this.
Avatar n tn If you are not on any medications like anticoagulants, blood thinners or birth control pills then this could be due to clotting disorders, low platelet count, fragile spider veins, deep vein thrombus, deficiency of Vitamin B12, folic acid, or Vit K, a liver disease or certain cancers. It could also be due to pressure urticaria. If you are on medications then you need to discuss that with your doctor. The other possibility is that they are not bruise by petechiae.
Avatar f tn What about researching an oral vit k? We don't vax at all my first one got vit k but I'm still on the fence with this one.
Avatar f tn Other causes could be autoimmune diseases like lupus and rheumatoid arthritis, viral infections like measles and mononucleosis and side effects of chemotherapeutic agents. Age spots or sun spots occur in people with advancing age. They can be easily treated with cryotherapy if required.

4939681 tn?1361299299 Re Vitamin K: I realized not long ago that I had worked myself into a calcium deficiency by avoiding milk (I'm lactose intolerant), and I needed more calcium in my diet that I just wasn't getting enough of from dark leafy greens alone. A good friend who is an amateur herbalist suggested I take Vitamin K-2 (not just Vitamin K, which can be at least two kinds, K-1 and K2, iirc), because K-2 is the specific one that accomplishes the transport of the calcium into bones.
Avatar n tn and found that 1 cup of cooked lettuce (yuck) has 19.4 mg of vit K. Any other idea how I might search for radicchio? Is it related to something else I could search?
Avatar m tn He just needs to eat a diet that is reasonably consistent in its levels of vitamin K. If he is getting his INR checked at least once a month, and the INR is relatively stable, then his diet is appropriate, as far as his taking Coumadin is concerned. The INR will show it, if there is a problem with his diet. He has been on Coumadin since 2002, so if there have been no major problems with his INR so far, then I wouldn't worry about it.
Avatar f tn DOES ANYONE KNOW IF WARFARIN CAN LOWER YOUR BLOOD COUNT AND AND ALSO LOWER CALCIUM AND VITAMIN D LEVELS?

255163 tn?1376869746 My heart Dr will not let me go off the plavix and my surgeon will not do the surgery while on plavix. What happens in a situation like this?. I am between a rock and a hard place. If neither Dr gives in what do I do? If I have an attack and end up in the ER wouldn't they have to do emergency sugery?. Does this mean that anyone on plavix can never have surgery unless it's an ermergency. What is your opinion on going off plavix temporarily for surgery. I would welcome anyones advice.
Avatar n tn t know how long they have been there for, but my throat had been hurting for about 2 weeks and i looked in my mouth and saw white lesions and ulcers in my mouth. The first thing i did was go to the doctor, because i do have a boyfriend and you never know right? The doctor told me it was herpes, and did a swab of the infected area.
Avatar n tn I have read so often that you should not take Plavix and aspirin, but it seems to also be common to prescribe both plavix and aspirin in certain situations. I am worried and confused. Thanks.

Avatar n tn I had angioplasty in 2001 and had a stent implant. My cardiologist prescribed Plavix and 81 mg aspirin daily among the other medications (beta blocker, ACE inhibitor, statin). I have recently moved to a new city and have not found a new cardiologist yet but family physician suggested that Plavix could be discontinued as the guidelines have changed and no long recommended after 12 months post stent implant. Suggestions please?
Avatar f tn After having had every test in the book, I was diagnosed with PACNS almost 3 years ago, and the course has been unremitting. The original presentation was headache (not thunderclap) loss of executive function and memory, visual disturbances, 7 strokes 9ischemic) and a drop of at least 40 !Q points on neuropsyche testing. I have tried both MTX and AZA, but both make me violently ill. I'm back to the CTX -150 mg/day,now, and it seems to be finally keeping the brain fog away.
