Avatar m tn Ask your Cardio or GI doc. They should be able to give you the infor you need. I am taking plavix and was on nexium. Had to go off it because of the FDA findings. Am now on pepcid You can also look on the FDA website for more info on that. Good luck.
Avatar f tn Is his doctor aware of the history of a bleeding ulcer that your post mentions? Has the ulcer completely healed? I certainly would make sure the doctor is aware of this. I know in my case, when taking the Plavix I couldn't drink. I love to drink wine and while on the Plavix one glass would go straight to my head. I felt drunk. And, yes,the bruising is terrible. I walk around with purple marks on my arms all the time.
Avatar m tn is it typical for doctor to prescribe 75 mg plavix and 325 mg aspirin? and then to add 800 mg ibuprofen 3/day for pain management?
Avatar n tn Additionally it would seem that the duration of diabetes and the degree of glycemic control drive the intensity of GI issues and that any part or all of the GI tract can be affected i.e. mouth, esophagus, stomach, small intestine, colon, liver, and pancreas. Finally, managing GI problems in diabetics must start with obtaining appropriate laboratory, radio-graphic, and GI testing followed by pharmacological therapy, glycemic control and a strict dietary plan.
1962649 tn?1332444851 Thanks everyone for your answers. The cardiologist called back and told him to stop the Plavix and take one 81mg baby asprin instead of the regular adult one. It's been 14 months since his stents were place so now he is on just coumadin and baby asprin. His last INR 2 days ago was 2.

Avatar f tn I have been on plavix since April 2009 after coronary stenting and it has never affected my bp wished it would. The only side effect I have had is that if I get cut I bleed easier and it takes longer to clot.
Avatar f tn old mom had been on plavix for about 2 months when she began having severe diahreea, nausea and loss of appetite. Is it possible for this to be a side effect of plavix even though she has been on the med for 2 months with no problem? She often has difficulty tolerating medications. She was diagnosed with a bacterial infection but after 2 rounds of antibiotic the symptoms return after abouit 2-3 days of feeling better. .
1210142 tn?1266077031 I have read a lot about the interaction between Plavix and PPI’s but he thinks only Omeprazole have more effect on Plavix, not Pantoprazole. Please, let me know what your opinion is and have you heard about any interaction between those two? I don’t need an additional heart attack.
Avatar n tn He is on Namenda and Plavix, is it possible that Adderall could help with his short term memory loss. Before the accident he lived on his own.
Avatar f tn You should not be on Nexium while on Plavix. Print out the info from Google and show it to your GI Doc. Ask him to give you another med for your Gerd. It's mostly the PPI's that should not be taken with Plavix, I don't think all of them, I'm not really sure, but your GI Doc should advise you on what other kind to take.
1210142 tn?1266077031 ) And if you look at some of the posts above/from jrbon- he stopped Plavix after 18 months and have not had any problems. My sister is an MD in Bulgaria and the practice there is almost the same as here- stopping Plavix after 12 months. So, no matter how much and how long we discuss this- the statistics should speak for itself.
Avatar f tn It's normal to bleed for awhile after a hysterectomy but 12 days is a little longer than usual. I think the Plavix may have something to do with it. You need to see your Dr to find out what's going on. Let us know and take care.
976897 tn?1379167602 Just to complicate the Plavix/generic Plavix issue, I was told to stop taking Plavix after bypass surgery, and the bruising immediately became a bigger issue and remains a bigger problem today. I'm not sure the bruising/bleeding issue is completely understood. I still take 80mg aspirin, and wonder if that is the cause. pippi331, sometimes one is allergic to the filler with generic drugs. I'd sure report your situation as soon as possible.
Avatar f tn I had two coated stents inserted March 22, 2010 and have been taking plavix, 81 mg aspirin and continue taking coumadin (5mg 6 days and 6 mgs 1 day a week). I have my blood tested for IN/PTR regularly. Since taking Plavix and aspirin I have severe bruising. I try to be careful but bruise just brushing against a doorway, for example. My dog was sitting on my lap and when he jumped off to the floor the pressure of lifting off caused bruising on both legs.
Avatar f tn They just took me off and now started Plavix and aspirin. Can you take the birth control pill with Plavix? My periods are now horrible with major bleeding and I only stopped for a few days and started my period again and it has not stopped and heavy bleeding with clots. Getting back on the birth control pill I feel sure would fix that. This discussion is related to Plavix side effects.
255163 tn?1376869746 My heart Dr will not let me go off the plavix and my surgeon will not do the surgery while on plavix. What happens in a situation like this?. I am between a rock and a hard place. If neither Dr gives in what do I do? If I have an attack and end up in the ER wouldn't they have to do emergency sugery?. Does this mean that anyone on plavix can never have surgery unless it's an ermergency. What is your opinion on going off plavix temporarily for surgery. I would welcome anyones advice.
Avatar m tn A recent plavix test showed it was not helping. Now my PA has me on 150 MG Plavix. I really bleed when scratched now. Should I take the Plavix test again to see if the increased dossage is working? I am also taking 325 mg asprin.
Avatar n tn I have been keeping a diary and have changed his diet, but there has been no change and very little relief. I am trying to get him to a GI specialist and would also look into what you have advised. Thanks for taking the time to respond.
Avatar n tn My mom is in the hospital for a GI bleed from cirrhosis and is hallucinating really bad (probably withdrawals from only quitting drinking the night of her GI bleed). They aren't giving her any medication to help her sleep or relax. Is this the right thing to do.
Avatar n tn I had angioplasty in 2001 and had a stent implant. My cardiologist prescribed Plavix and 81 mg aspirin daily among the other medications (beta blocker, ACE inhibitor, statin). I have recently moved to a new city and have not found a new cardiologist yet but family physician suggested that Plavix could be discontinued as the guidelines have changed and no long recommended after 12 months post stent implant. Suggestions please?
315318 tn?1353251800 The risk of restenosis due to a blood clot is minimum after about about a year, and the risk/benefit ratio favors discontinuing plavix and its probability to cause excessive bleeding. Did you have a test that indicates your are hypercoagulable (excessive blood clotting characteristics)? A PT-INR test that times the clotting time?
