Percocet in second trimester

Common Questions and Answers about Percocet in second trimester

percocet

Less is definitely better in this case. I was taking Vicodin when I was pregnant with my second son for dental surgery and everything turned out fine. I would suggest only taking it when it's absolutely necessary and try to substitute with Ibuprofen b/c it's an anti-inflammatory. Hope this helps.
But my dentist gave me Tylenol3 which is safe to use during second trimester. I think if your doctor says its safe its' safe. Also, they can give you as much numbing meds as you need, the only thing is they will use the kind of medicine WITHOUT epinephrine(sp?) this is my personal experience.
I would assume it's even more important to be off meds like this in the 2nd/3rd trimester than it is in the 1st? Is that a correct assumption? I have so many questions...the pregnancy is all new to me.....and so I have all sorts of questions there. and now to think about all the medication issues.....this raises even more questions. I just need to talk to someone that has maybe been on percocet at the time they found out they were pregnant....how did things play out for you?
I just found out I am about 4 weeks pregnant and couldn't be happier, but i am addicted to percocet and need to kick the habit like yesterday! I have been taking between 300 and 390 mg of 30 mg percocet. i found out 5 days ago, and have started to taper down and have cut it down by %50 already. My questions are have i damaged my baby in these 4 weeks that i didn't know i was pregnant and was taking high doses of percocet? is it safe to taper and eventually stop while pregnant?
i read a story here and a women was on 3 5mgs percocet a day for 3 weeks stopped cause she thought it was a low dose n went in to labor 2 days later.. but she was only a week or 3 away from her due date so tech she was full term.
My peri-natal specialist prescribed it for me throughout my pregnancy starting in the second trimester, however, if you continue taking it at this late stage, yes, your baby will be born addicted and yes, your baby will suffer withdrawal symptoms which can range from anything to the inability to sleep, poor sucking reflux, crying and seizures to worse. That having been said, IF your doctors know about it they can EASILY treat those symptoms. I would talk to your dr.
I don't know about being further along and taking them but I had in my first and second trimester and my daughter is a perfectly healthy five month old.
After reading all the post about pregnancy and percocet,I am scared sh**less,I've read that u can't take them during ur first trimester but u can during ur second? Why is that? my ob knows I'm taking them but I'm still worried. I have been eating healthy,I quit smoking as soon as I found out I'm pregnant, been taking my vitamins,I've been doing everything I can to make sure I have a healthy baby, but after reading those posts,I feel like I may have put my baby at risk and I feel horrible!!!
The hydrocodone I was taking a couple every couple of days in the first and second trimester. .sometimes I went several days without anything.. im just curios to know if the opiates will still be in the babies system when he is born if I dont take anything else the rest of my pregnancy. .
Yup I was scared but had to I had my gallbladder removed at 20 weeks pregnant I had to take for pain or couldve went in early labor because of pain and stress I had to be stabilized trust me I didnt want to but it's safe in second trimester baby is formed ..but I didn't abuse medicine problem is baby can get addicted so I rushed to heal and started Tylenol so I didnt continue on narco..scary but safe if needed!
I was also the same size you were at the start, I have put on more weight, and alot more than usual due to the fact I cant work out. So relax, and once you are in your second trimester, you can take pain meds, I am on percocet for the pain and take it when needed to get threw the hard times..
I wasn't addicted - I was dependant. I am almost into my second trimester and I still have my moments and my days where I can't seem to function properly, so I take half of a vicodin 5 and believe it or not, I'm fine. While it is okay to take these drugs during pregnancy, the drug was beginning to run my life before and getting pregnant was a God send in so many different ways - I take them now and if I don't eat or if I take more than a half I get physically sick.
I didn't get many headaches in my first trimester but I'm getting them almost on a daily basis in my second trimester. they're so bad I've been throwing up and they last for days. Tylenol doesn't help at all. I'll take a zip lock bag of ice water and lay in the dark. Or I've used tiger balm but you can't use it to often. I'm desperate to find something that can help get rid of these headaches because they're debilitating.
Im a dental hygenist ur in second trimester u will be fine but u can take Tylenol or percocet for pain Iits safe for baby ask ur doctor I took it ..when I had surgery u hving pain is not good ...
I was on pain meds my whole first trimester and part of my second. They can help you if they deem it necessary. That's assuming you can't control pain with tylenol or something stronger like a percocet or if the stone is too large to pass and/or is causing hudronephrosis. I hope you pass it though.
I was prescribed Tylenol 3 with Codeine during my last pregnancy for migraine headaches. I was in my second trimester and took them for only a short duration. I am pregnant again and have 3 herniated disks in my back and have been prescribed Vicodin for that. I am 22 weeks along now, so I think if you take the meds in moderation, for a short period of time, and after your first trimester you should be fine.
My husband and I are concerned about the potential of me having to go on bedrest from the potential pain in the last trimester. Right now I manage the pain with steroid injections, but that won't be possible once pregnant. Has anyone with disk herniations gone full term w/o bedrest? How did you handle pain, movement, etc. Thank you.
When I went for pre-opt and a second opinion I found out that I was opregnant. Had I listened to the first doctor I would have never had my son! Is baby aspirin or regular aspirin safe to take during my pregnancy? I feel great. I have pains in my hip, sometimes. I am so happy otherwise! Please advise.
I was miserable my whole pregnancy but I have a happy and healthy daughter now. In my second trimester I started taking 2 5/500 Vicoden a day (at night) to take a little of the edge of my pain so I could sleep. That is the only amount safe to take while pregnant and not having to worry about withdrawals in the baby.
BUT if you are already on a higher dose you would need to stay on that dose through the first trimester and not decrease until the end of the second trimester and ONLY with drs supervision. So they make keep you on the meds you currently take OR they may switch you to subulex or even methadone both of which are synthetic opiates for addiction to avoid withdrawal. But the only person who can tell you what is best is your own dr bc they know your medical history.
So they had to hold off on the surgery until my second trimester and try to get me through with my gall bladder issues. I had frequent attacks so they had me on vicodin all of my first trimester. Sometimes it would get real bad and they would send me to the ER and they would pump me with dilaudid or demerol and zofran for the nausea. This went on until my 22 week of pregnancy with the attacks getting worse.
they gave me tylenol 3 for the pain. I felt safe going to the dentist and taking the med as I'm well into my second trimester. Thing is, he didn't do a root canal because he didn't wanna take more xrays. (it's a tiny little machine, with VERY MINIMAL xrays) They put 2 lead aprons over me too, so.. no worries. Fast forward to today, well, my mouth is KILLING me, I'm out of tylenol3, the gum area is swollen, and even tho my gums don't hurt anymore, my tooth and jaw kills when I bite down. OUCH.
All I took was tylenol because I was scared to take anything else, it didn't help too well... I hate to tell you but mine got worse in the second trimester around 14-15 weeks! I hope you find relief.
Its fine to take tylenol with codine even in the third trimester. I got it prescribed to me as well when I had to get dental things done. I'm sure if you doctor didn't think it was safe wouldn't have prescribed it to you.
first of all, congratulations, what wonderful way to start a new year and a new clean life. Second, you must realize that you are not the only one in this predicament. We get this question on this forum over and over again from wonderful caring women who want to have healthy babies. Third, you must talk to your OB/GYN. if you don't have one, find one. A midwife group is fine as well.
You can have the tooth extracted in your second trimester, my step mom did, she got all her wisdom teeth taken out. Thats extreame though. I know i can and I just came from the dentist to get a filling cause my teeth are terrible and one piece of the tooth broke off, got it fixed to.
It is only when used in COMBINATION with other drugs such as acetaminophen (found in Tylenol and percocet) or ibuprofen (found in Advil and percodan) that it becomes a category C. Please do your OWN homework and talk to your doctor (or better yet, a practicing Pharmacist with a doctorate) to establish whether its safe for YOU and your pregnancy.
