Common Questions and Answers about Patanol and dry eyes

Avatar n tn Are steroids such as Maxitrol or Tobradex *supposed* to help with eye burning caused by dry eye or can it make your symptoms worse? I'm dealing with allergic conjunctivitis (again!) and dealing with burning eyes. thanks!
Avatar m tn You could just have chronic allergies and need to take patenol longer and use oral antihistamine as well. Dry eyes could be involved. Oral flax and fish oil may help. Maybe you didn't take the doxy long enough - perhaps minocycline very low dose with food might be easier on you. Sterilid or Ocusoft Plus lid cleanser pads might help for certain cases. I expect culture to be negative because you have been on antibiotics and often these cases are not bacteria related. Michael J.
Avatar n tn I get hayfever as soon as the humid weather starts. My eyes burn and get dry.I get stringy mucous in my eyes.My doctor gave me patanol but it only worked for 6 days.It has only .01 strenght.Would a stronger strenght relieve my eye symptoms?
Avatar n tn The only change I have made in my life style is to take Patanol eye drops for allergy eyes. I have been using them once daily for 4 months. Could it be that this antihistamine can be causing this increase in my blood pressure? I am allergic to the drugs used for controling blood pressure and prior to this successfully lowered my pressure by exercise and diet.It is normal for me to have a reading of 130 over 80. I am 59 years old. I weigh 110 pounds. I am 5 foot 6 inches tall.
Avatar n tn My eyes become itchy and watery. I have used patanol in the past but the eye Dr is now recommending patasol which is very expensive. I want to try Zyrtec d instead of Zyrtec which gives me some releif. Any other suggestions are appreciated.
Avatar m tn Sometimes a brief course of steroid drops and gentle cleaning of the lid margins and aggressive treatment of dry eyes are in order. For some cases commercial lid cleaners like sterilid can help as well as oral doxycycline for select cases as well a oral flax and fish oil. Each case requires a custom approach and I don't know what you need so you need to stay in close touch with your ophthalmolgist. Plugs may or may not help depending on the degree of lid margin disease.
Avatar f tn I read the other threads regarding "twitching" in an eye and that is what originally led me to this site. I am under a lot of stress (caring for my 88-year old mother, my husband has had two open-heart surgeries and my little dog is terminally ill) and I am not sleeping well (never have been a sound sleeper). Approximately six years ago I was diagnosed with Posterior Vitreous Detachment in both eyes and the "symptoms" nearly make me crazy!!
Avatar n tn Hi :( I am 24 white male and at a routine eye exam my doc told I had a "posterior capsule opacification". She didn't say catarct but I know thats what it is. have an eye allergy and sometimes (once a week) I have to take steriod drops because my eye becomes red and swollen and itchy. Otherwise I use patanol.
Avatar m tn I've been to another doctor, she said my eyes were red mostly because they were dry, but that there still was some allergy. Now I'm using a lubricant for dry eyes, although I didn't see much improvement so far. Been doing that since 3 days ago. I'll also keep using Lastacaft, since my doctor said there was some allergy.
Avatar f tn They are very skeptical about prolonged use of steroids and I understand why. I have now developed dry eyes in the last year and it seems the issue with the conjunctivitus is worsening. I have flareups once a month if not twice and it's getting to a point it is severely impacting my mental health. I don't want to go to sleep eveynight and fear I have to rip my eyes open the following morning.
Avatar n tn not infected just really running only at night time and really runny i the moring and really good in the afternoon.and iam also ona allery med too.
Avatar f tn Tobramycin, Patanol, and Amox-clav. Every time he uses them his eyes sting and have been of very little help for him. Also, after the first few days, he went raking out in his backyard for a couple hours. Could that have caused damage or an irritant to get in his eyes? What do you suggest he do?
Avatar f tn At the onset of spring, his eyes become red and then in a month , the limbus area in both the eyes get swelled. Last year, he was treated with patanol and then FML for the inflammation. This year, again when FML(Tapered dose starting with 3 times) and Tacroz( 0.03% , once at bedtime) was prescribed. We took a second opinion and Lotepred( tapered dose starting with 4 times/day) was prescribed. My questions are, 1. Which one is the safest among Tacroz, FML and Lotepred for a 5 yr old boy? 2.
Avatar n tn that triggers it for some reason but i also noticce tha one eye is a little irritated with red right on the corner of the eye.. i took him to out family dr and was given patanol eye drops.. he only has a day taking them but the doctor really didnt gi ve me a clear anwer on weather what the problem really was... well mainly im trying to look for a second opinion.. also the doctor did metion that my son when the second child that when in that day with the blinking problem..
Avatar n tn My symptoms include an intermittent and mild burning sensation, blood shot eyes, excessive watering and some crusting from the watering over night. But nothing like pink eye crusting. My eyes are the worst when I first wake up. I think the next step with my opthamologist will be to get a culture taken. Any thoughts?
Avatar m tn I bought a bottle of Patanol eye drops about a month and three weeks ago, I found the box a couple days ago and noticed on the box that it says discard thirty days after opening... The expiry date on the bottle says 01-2011.. Is this bad that I used the eye drops three weeks after it was suppose to be discarded? I only used three quaters of the bottle. I paid a little over fifty dollars for this little 5 mL bottle.... But what can you do....
Avatar m tn He has been on an oral antihistimine (claritin) for many years and uses Patanol and theratears. He was told he could no longer wear contact lenses (that's fine) and hasn't since his diagnoses. There is little change to his GPC even after using a prescription eye drop with steroids and antibiotic. His opthamologist never asked if he used any face cleanser. He uses a 10% Benzoyl Peroxide wash, in addition to Clearasil pads.
Avatar m tn I recenlty did this and noticed the next day my left eye felt swollen and sore. Can dust get in your eyes and cause inflamation. My eye is not eye or itcy.
Avatar n tn Then there are the multiple toxins in the environment, including in the home, that can be the problem, such as mold or food additives such as MSG and soy derivatives if one is allergic to soy, a common allergen, or corn additives, another common allergen -- these are omnipresent in processed food in the supermarket and as fillers and binders in pills.
Avatar n tn my bad, I have had to explain the difference between an MD and a DO a lot recently and i was having issues with ghost images in both of my eyes so I kinda launched in to my explanation reflexively.
Avatar m tn When he was checking me, he diagnosed me with Giant Papillary Conjunctivitis and put me on patanol eye drops - he said I was allergic to the contacts I was wearing and said that the pain I felt on my left eye was because I had a foreign body in that eye and my left eye is more sensitive than before. I explained to him that my right eye was fine and he told me that my right eye actually hurts just the same but it's overshadowed by the pain in my left eye.
Avatar m tn Some weeks are better then others Sometimes one eye will be worse then the other I have also explored the allegery issue again by taking Claritan which seems to actually help with the stuffy nose but does nothing for the eyes, so i wanted to get an allegery eye drop while on claritan. I have tried Patanol and Zaditor which do not help, i have only tired the eye drops and oral meds together for 1 week with absolutly no improvment.
Avatar n tn I've had severe red eyes for almost 2 years and today was diagnosed with Superior Limbic Keratoconjunctivitis. This was the first time I'd consulted a doctor/opthamologist in that regard. The opthamologist prescribed a course of Maxidex to be taken every 2 hours as well as Patanol, which is to be taken twice a day.
Avatar f tn My doctor told me to use Patanol and Xiloial together. But she said İ should use one of them first, then apply the other. Cuz one of them is gel or whatever. But now i cant remember which one she said that İ should use first. Can you please help me?
Avatar f tn i did see a rheumatologist...all my bloodwork is normal for autoimmune diseases at this time, but clearly a lot of people don't test positive for Sjogrens at the beginning or at all. he isn't sure if i have sjogren's and wants to monitor me. i understand these things are hard to diagnose. i just worry because og my aches and pains, dry eyes, and dry mouth. yet, i'm a 30 yr old guy and don't fit the mod of who develops Sjogrens...
Avatar m tn Some of these are low blink rate, dry eyes and sight behavior. Dry eye is a chronic condition, however you can ask your eye doctor for a prescription like increasing tear production, and treating the inflammation of the eyelids. You can also try some alternatives to treat dry eyes by blinking regularly when staring at a computer screen or reading, wear sunglasses when you go outdoors, increase the level of humidity and ask for nutritional supplements for dry eye condition from your doctor.
