Avatar n tn Are you having problems with just your large intestine, or also your small intestine. The way a gastric pacemaker works is that is helps the symptoms of nausea and vomiting that go along with gastroparesis (slow emptying of the stomach) but it doesn't actually speed of emptying of the stomach. So I don't see how a colonic pacemaker would work, if it used the same means as a gastric pacemaker.
564032 tn?1216312671 I have a friend that is having to undergo stomach removal because she can not afford the $50,000.00 fee to get a pacemaker placed. Her insurance or medicaid will not pay for the pacemaker. I have heard that the life expectancy for a stomach removal is not very long. My friend is like a mother to me and she is way to young to die! There is not alot of time left before her surgery and I am trying to find out what I can do to help her.
Avatar f tn Kathy Hansen went online to research treatments and found the Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, where doctors could insert a pacemaker into her stomach. The pacemaker acts similarly to a heart pacemaker, sending signals that cause the stomach muscles to contract at the right times so that Gentrie could eat. 409410 tn?1251072712 I don't blame you. For a short-term fix, try ginger root juice to help with acid problems. Longer term, you might want to consider aiming to alkalize your body's pH by eating better less acid-forming food choices. Google acid-forming food list and following the alkaline side of the chart for at least two weeks. Also consider upping your fiber intake and walking daily.
Avatar f tn I am really looking for guidance from someone who has the stomach pacemaker or had one and how they found it. Thank you for your posting.

Avatar f tn I have had gastroparesis for 1 year. Can accupunture cure the vagus nerve?
Avatar n tn I'm not sure what the cause for the nausea would be from the pacemaker but I know a few things that really help me because i suffer with very bad nausea from anxiety and migraines. I use a med called Phenergan you can get them in supasotory or tablet and i eat ginger snaps and drink gingerale. My husbands father had a pacemaker so i will ask him if his dad suffered with nausea. Hope I was of some help. Have a wonderful day.

512694 tn?1216161406 Have any of you tried Amitiza? My gastro doc wants to put me on that for my motility issues, but I don't like the side effects. Would love to hear from real people if they have taken it and their thoughts on it. I don't know of any other drugs used for motility besides Reglan, which I won't use. Thanks for any help!
781550 tn?1236029747 I wrote to the Princess Alexander Hospital and they called me in for a thorough checkup of my pacemaker. It was regularly running my heart at 160 bpm. The penny dropped! There is a setting which detects when one is exercising. It senses vibration and increases the heart rate. However, vehicle vibrations can fool it. So if I got into a rough vehicle, my heart rate shot up. If it stays up for long enough, I get a heart attack. Solution - turn the setting off. All cured. Well, not quite.
Avatar f tn You say you did not pass out from any of the more recent episodes even though you had a long pause? A pacemaker is a big deal for sure but your heart stopping is also a big deal. When it stops blood is not getting to your brain and oxygen depravation can lead to memory loss and loss of overall brain function. How are you tolerating the pauses that aren't causing you to pass out? You do have to keep in mind that if you pass out while driving you may injure yourself or others.
Avatar f tn The pacemaker itself should not be a deterent from having an ablation. I've had a pacemaker for 6 years (because of an ablation actually), and then had another ablation about a year ago. Unfortunately, the ablations don't work for me, but I have IST, not SVT so hopefully they're more effective for that.
913937 tn?1243013191 I have had 3 gastric emptying tests, 2 endoscopies and recently have been put on medication. Zegerid for GERD is a miracle drug for me for acid reflux. However, it doesn't do anything for the vomitting. I have tried reglan, erythromyacin, and just received a RX for Domperidon yesterday. Because the reglan didn't work, I am not too thrilled about the possibility of the domperidon working. I have lost 21 pounds in the last 9 weeks and I am at my wits end.
Avatar n tn This seems like a very difficult situation for you and your family. The best way to begin addressing this question is to ask your cardiologist whether your mother is "pacemaker dependent" or not. Pacemaker dependent means that the heart is reliant on the pacemaker, and without it, the heart cannot pump fast enough to meet the demands of the body. (There are others who need the pacemaker infrequently as a "back-up", for the rare times when the heart rate slows down).
Avatar n tn I am a 30 yr old mother of 3 with a pacemaker. I have had the pacemaker for 3 years in July. It was originally placed because of a severe problem with fainting. My heart was stopping for nearly 50 seconds(documented) during these syncope episodes. The pacemaker has basically cured this problem. At my last visit they said it was working 25% of the time. Whatever that means. But now the pacemaker unit has shifted for the second time.
Avatar f tn her gastro is trying to send her to shands hospital to get a pace maker for stomach..i also called the mayo clinic n have app for her in april..have u only taken the reglen..
6644456 tn?1383330685 Hi, a pacemaker is usually advised if the rate and rhythm of AF cannot be controlled with medications. For implanting a pacemaker, you may need ablation of the AV node. And you have added problems of coronary artery blockages. If the blood thinning is not adequate with aspirin and plavix, you will need warfarin to prevent complications like stroke. Its best to try conservative methods first. Regards.
Avatar f tn Hi. I had a pacemaker implanted in August of 2008 due to lower heart rate/dizziness. I am now using it less than 1% of the time. I have experienced very seldom PVCs in the past. However, the last two weeks, they have been increasing to having them almost every 30 seconds and last for hours at a time. I went to my cardio doctor and he put me on a 14 days event monitor.
584742 tn?1219148217 t helped. They recently turned up the pacemaker to the max 10 and still im hospitalized for dehydration every two to three weeks for several days. I use to vomit daily all day long but reglan, phenergan, and marijuana help. I thought the pacemaker would have made more of a difference. But, I do have to say I don't throw up AS much. Every morning I wake up nauseas until I smoke pot. That buys time for my reglan and phenergan to kick in. Some days are good, some days are bad.
Avatar m tn The basis for my question comes from this... so after i had my 2 pacemaker replaced i took my metoprolol regularly was working out, living very active. But as an increase in work came the working out time was consumed by running around work 6 days a week.
