1639955 tn?1300575126 If you are already basically in full blown withdrawal you might as well flush the rest of your pills and go it cold turkey.....I am not as sensitive as some on this site.....I am a firm believer of Cold Turkey!!!! If you have already tapered then you have done the best you could and now it is time to stop. There are a lot of things you need to take ie....vitamins, protein shakes, antioxidants etc.....
Avatar n tn How can I best help my niece (age 51) with her with her withdrawal. Approximately one year ago she was prescribed Oxycontin (180 mg per day) for relief from pain of fibromyalgia, DDD and carpal tunnel. Her doctor stopped prescribing about 7-8 months ago and she has been getting it from a friend. She is tired of the addiction and seems determined to kick it. I want to help her succeed but need some advice.
Avatar m tn thanks to both you guys I really want to do the cold turkey I quit smoking cold turkey after 18 years of smoking and havent touched then in 6 years but I run my own business and can't be down for 5 days without sleep and shaking with aches and pains Ihave gotten in touch with our local addiction medicin program and havent heard back yet from them so Im hoping they can help pain I can handle withdrawal I can't.
Avatar m tn Can anybody tell me what is the best way to come off them? I am on day 2 cold turkey but i dont know if i can do it. I own my own business and can't take time off. Should i taper off or just do cold turkey? Also will i ever feel normal or happy again and how long will it take? Please help.
Avatar f tn drug. I like cold turkey because not only does it get it over with faster but it lets the addict experience the negative aspect of withdrawal and gives one something to think about when a craving hits later on down the line. Thats just me though...Im sure others will give there preference as well. Just know that cold turkey is VERY doable. I did it from IV heroin use and pills before. It goes by fast....treat it like the flu. Good luck to you and your boyfriend.
Avatar f tn Are you trying to quit cold turkey? If so hydrocodone is only going to prolong your w/d symptoms. If you are trying to taper they may take the edge off but you will still have to face the inevitable which is w/d. How long were you taking 40 2X/day? As if you naven't been taking them for too long of a time you may only feel w/d for about 3 days. For the restless legs you can take HYLANDS RLS which you can get at walgreens.
Avatar f tn Morning Bree - Oxycontin is a strong opiate drug and it is a controlled release, so chewing the pill when you take it will release the whole dose all at one time. 80 mg is high enough to cause some discomfort if stopped cold turkey, 20 mg if taken long enough and tollerance is developed will cause withdrawal. I would reommend that if you are interested in stopping that you work on a taper plan to minimize withdrawal symptoms.
Avatar f tn I have been on Oxycontin for 2 years and am going to try quitting cold turkey. Anyone know the best way to quit cold turkey?? any suggestions will help greatly.
Avatar m tn Everyone is different so there is no right or wrong answer tbh. For me personally I found cold turkey harder but more effective than tapering as I never managed to reduce my dosage sufficiently over a period of time. It felt like if I was still taking it each day (Even a reduced dosage) my body still craved more so my attempts at tapering would last up to a month and I would eventually give up as I hadn't been able to reduce the dosage enough.
Avatar n tn i was an oxy user and i could not taper...i just had to quit cold turkey...it was about a week of he!! and then i started to get better...i am 47, was not prescribed and snorted about 240 mgs per day. the w/ds wont kill ya but you may wish they had if you c/t...the taper looks like its going good for you though. check out the thomas recipe in the healthpages to the right of this page...start the vitamins and stuff now...just keep on keepin on...
Avatar f tn Doc is right about the "hard part"-extended sobriety/recovery. I know what cold turkey is like when getting off of opiates. My last and most recent withdrawals were much easier as I had more resolve and discipline to taper use down over several weeks to zero. I definately benefited simultaneously from a healthy diet, vitamins, exercise, hot baths, etc. I didn't use these methods before and I knew I never wanted to live through the withdrawal hell again.
Avatar f tn I did the same thing and went into withdrawal. I was told to just go cold turkey and get it over with. If you stay at that dose you will have withdrawals anyway. I am on day 7 of no oxy. All the advice that littlebit gave you is excellent and definitely keep posting. I lived on this site while I was going through it. Good luck whatever you decide.
1986130 tn?1326767295 I was taking 8-10 Norcos a day plus 80 mg of oxycontin. I stopped the oxys cold turkey 2 days ago & have been rapidly tapering off the norcos. I took 9 the day b4 yesterday, 7 yesterday, & 4 today. My goal tomorrow is to take 2 or less! I assumed tapering off would make withdrawals more managable but it I'm still having all them!
Avatar m tn I was just "discharged" from my pain clinic, "as per my request", which was bs- no one who is in chronic pain ( 8 ruptured discs, c-5,6,7&8 & 4 lowest, as well as all of the degenerative disc disease stuff) who has been prescribed oxycontin and Baclofen, (15mg, 20mg, both 4x a day) is going to just tell their Dr, "I quit!", without having another Dr lined up!!
Avatar m tn t know I had, perseverance, the belief that I was stronger than little white pill, and the fact that I had managed to beat a smoking habit,( two and a half packs a day) doing it cold turkey as I was doing to beat oxycontin. This and a wife who knew I could do it. Also those who were here who gave me a much needed support. Can it be done? Oh, Yes! Many addicts have passed through here who have managed to take control of their habit and have moved on.
Avatar f tn Can anyone tell me how long the withdrawal symptoms last when coming off Oxycontin? I've been taking 300mg a day for the last four years because of spinal disease. I've now decided I'd rather suffer the pain than deal with this drug anymore. I no longer have any interest in anything and spend most of my days watching TV. After doing my research, I've decided it's the drug from hell and I really need to stop.
Avatar m tn Sometimes morphine, oxymorphone, hydromorphone so it was a habit. I stopped cold turkey and its bad but with determination it is possible. Now I go to meetings to figure how how to stay off. W/d's are different for everyone. I always found time using consistently was a greater indicator of severity than dose... One thing that helped me with the chills, aches, restless leg was to go into a warm shower. I probably took 7 showers a day just curled up in the tub... but it offered some relief..
Avatar m tn I was told this was a better forum for this post. I have chronic low back and left leg pain for which I've been taking oxycontin for about 10 years. Right now I'm taking about 300mg OxyContin a day and about 30mg of hydrocodone for break through pain. It's getting to the point that it's not working and a lot of the day I'm feeling like I'm in withdrawal. Quite frankly I'm sick and tired of taking the stuff. I feel like I'm a slave to it.
Avatar m tn Iv been taking vicodin for 3 years but very heavily, easily more then 10 1,000 mg a day an started taking suboxone for the last 2 years i decided to stop cold turkey at 32mg the highest posible.
Avatar f tn I'm a 28 yr old male and otherwise healthy. About three yrs ago I tore the miniscus in my right knee and was prescribed 750 mg vicodens they hardely helped with the pain and my doctor moved my script to 40 mg oxycontin which helped greatly. I was taking my meds as directed at first but soon went through my monthly script in 10-14 days.I was buying 80's from a work friend and after my surgery was well into the thrawls of addiction.
Avatar n tn Not everyone was the ability to go cold turkey, not everyones health will allow them to go this route, and some drugs can not be cold turkeyed...benzos-cold turkey-NO...tramadol-cold turkey-NO...someone pregnate-cold turkey-NO..heart problems-cold turkey-NO....We should be carefull with what we suggest. I know its a forum and everyone has the right to their opinion, but we are here to support one another in our decisions-not make decisions for one another.
Avatar f tn Not sure which drug had the worse anxiety in withdrawal. I used methadone, pot, OxyContin, MScontin, and Valium. I think the Valium was the hardest. I cold turkey off them all at the same time. Major seizures had to stay in HOSP for a bit. Am doing great now. Still have some paws but nothing like it was before.
