Omega 3 in natural food

Common Questions and Answers about Omega 3 in natural food

omega-3

Avatar f tn re tiny seeds that have very little taste and can easily be put in almost any food. I put 1/2 tsp in my cereal or yogurt once a day and now have all the Omega-3 I need without the expensive pills or having to worry about whether I'm eating enough fish. It also costs alot less - last weekend I paid only $1.19 for 1/2 lb. that should last at least a month. If you research it, they are the best source for non-fish Omega-3, even better than walnuts (and less fattening).
Avatar f tn t know what brand you should use, but I use all natural prenatal vitamins and Omega 3 from natural health stores, I pay a little extra but they are worth it they don't have any chemicals or artificial additives that are unnecessary.
1192727 tn?1282735542 Our bodies naturally produce small amounts of DHA, but we must get the amounts we need from our diet or supplements. Most people in the Western world do not get enough omega-3 fatty acids in their diet.
Avatar n tn I have him on dry food such as fit and trim Kroger brands but recently, I change it to Natural Balance sweet potato and fish formula. Natural Balance has a lot of omega-6 in it; I heard omega 6 is not good for a dog that had a tumor. What kind of dry food would you recommend? Please email me your suggestion.
Avatar m tn t just one substance, Omega three are fatty acids just like Omega 6 fatty acids found in oils and meat etc. Omega 3 are EPA, DHA, and ALA . Some experts have said that the balance between Omega 6 fatty acids and Omega 3 is key, but just as many say this is nonsense. Omega 3 do have benefits, mainly reducing inflammation in the body, such as in the arteries or joints. It can also reduce your clotting factor if taken in too high doses, causing excessive bleeding.
Avatar m tn Many studies are exposed everyday. My opinion is this : try to eat food which contain omega 3 such as sardines or salmon etc If it is difficult for you I would suggest omega 3 capsules but I would also suggest you to confirm this with your doctor because all capsules are not the same!
Avatar f tn Most of the better dog foods have Omega 6 in them and, if I remember correctly, if you supplement with Omega 3, you should feed a low fat diet, which for a Boston may not be a bad idea. :-) You can guy Omega 3 capsules and maybe give one a day. You can get flax seed oil and add a little of that daily. Not the two together, either/or. You can feed canned sardines in oil a couple of times a week (maybe 2 or 3 at a time).
Avatar m tn Alpha-linolenic acid found in English walnuts, in some types of beans, and in canola, soybean, flaxseed/linseed, and olive oils. Olive oil would be the preferred source; avoid canola and soybean. Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) found in seaweed and cold water, fatty fish this is the one implicated in the recent study Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) found in mackerel, salmon, trout and other cold water, fatty fish.
Avatar f tn Consumer Reports Health ( http://www.consumerreports.org/health/conditions-and-treatments/attention-deficit-hyperactivity-disorder/what-is-it.htm) did a report and said basically that while nothing has been proven it doesn't hurt to try fish oils (omega 3's). I have (in the 3 plus years on this site) never seen a post by a parent saying any additional diet change made a difference (if they had a normal diet). Having said that, omega 3's certainly wouldn't hurt to try!
Avatar f tn I would recommend taking either the omega 3 and resveratrol together or omega 3 and baby aspirin, but not all three together.
Avatar f tn Rather, we want to increase long-chain omega-3 fatty acids (from fish oils) to reduce the ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 fatty acids in the food. So, rather than add a supplement to a food, you are better served to feed a food that already has increased omega-3 fatty acids (specifically, EPA and DHA), and has a ratio of n-6 to n-3 of between 10:1 and 5:1.
Avatar f tn U know it sounds to me like ur brain is very low in Omega 3. Omega 3 is a good fat that can be found in large amounts in oily fish such as Mackeral... Omega 3 is scientifically known to improve concentration, lower anxiety and in effect 'wake the brain up'.
374593 tn?1257879950 I was wandering if taking an omega 3,6,9 supplement is safe while trying to concieve and while pregnant? I have heard omega 3 is ok, but not sure about the others. my supplement is a combination..I have severe endo and was trying to "decrease" inflammation, and reading that omega 3 is a natural antiinflammatory, thought this might be a good idea? Thank you so much for your help and time!
Avatar m tn , a large producer of nuts and nut products, had put some information on its website about the health benefits of walnuts (which are rich in omega-3 fatty acids).
Avatar n tn While all children with ADHD are not deficient in omega-3 fatty acids, we believe that the addition of omega-3 fatty acids to the diet may be important for some ADHD children. In fact, studies show that children whose treatment program includes only medication, educational and psychological therapy continue to be at high risk for vandalism, petty crime, frequency of alcoholic intoxication, and possession of marijuana.
4274823 tn?1388529098 Thanks for the list. I avoid soy and flax due to a health issue. I do eat pumpkin seeds and walnuts as well as plenty of vegetables and fruit. Interesting about papaya. Ideally I would like to get it from food rather than have to purchase an expensive supplement that I don't feel 100% comfortable with.
Avatar m tn t purify it, meaning you get more than just the omega 3 oils, but that means you get less of the omega 3 oils and have to take more of them, and they are expensive. Cod liver oil shouldn't be taken regularly -- it can have a laxative effect, and the liver is a detoxification organ, meaning toxins accumulate there. It can be good for skin problems and other things, but for basic omega 3 you don't want liver oil.
334776 tn?1249968581 I know California Natural has omega 3's in it. You have to buy it at specialty stores. Grocery stores don't carry it.
Avatar f tn Not all fish have a high level of mercury. If your doc didn't give you a list, Google it and it will say what fish to absolutely avoid and which is okay and couple times a week. It's not good to just avoid all fish because they are so rich in nutrients that are also good for baby.
Avatar n tn I am not sure of your question. Are you asking where omega 3 and omega 6 foods come from? Omegas 3 / 6 are polyunsaturated oils that help lower cholesterol and help prevent blood platelets from clotting blood vessel walls. The best source is fish especially mackerel, tuna, salmon, and lake trout. Fish should be eaten 2-3 times a week. Omega 3 are found in whole nuts, soy nuts / oil, and canola oil. Recommend 1-2 teaspoons of nuts daily. Hope this answered your question.
Avatar f tn You should be taking omega 3 in any case. Statins, by lowering cholesterol, also interfere with the absorption of fat soluble nutrients, which of course includes omega 3. The most important for the heart is EFA, which is found in largest amounts in fish oil, but flax and hemp oil are also very high in omega 3 oils. But omega 3 oils don't do the same thing as statins. Statins lower LDL cholesterol, the bad kind, whereas omega 3 oils provide the good kind of cholesterol, HDL.
Avatar f tn I take one to fight babybrain. Omegas are stripped from myelin shealths during pregnancy and since they act as lubricant in the conduction of, essentially thoughts, our thought process is slowed. I didn't ask my doc about it yet but it does clear up fog in my brain.
1655526 tn?1330655629 On Omega-3 supplements, I notice a significant increase in PVCs as well as slight increase in general twitchiness or anxiety. Yeah, it's a sample size of one and I'm the only observer, but that's the way it seems to me. However, some scientists have observed problems in giving patients these supplements: http://www.examiner.
Avatar f tn I would suggest a good brand omega 3 supplement that says its been purified of heavy metals. Omega 3 is good for your baby's brain development. Also drink bottled water or I guess you could use a filter system like britta. You don't want to be drinking water with all sorts of junk in it. Make sure juices and milk are pasteurized it's very important. When buying fruit there are certain ones you should invest in organic ones.
Avatar m tn I took an Omega-3 supplement for the first time before going to bed last night, and when I woke up one eye was very swollen and puffy. The only allergies I have had are seasonal. Could I be allergic to the Omega-3 supplement?
