Common Questions and Answers about Omega 3 in light tuna

omega-3

Avatar f tn My prenatals as most fo already have the omega 3 in them so I splurge on a tuna melt or 2 maybe once a month or every 3 weeks. I still dont eat it often due to the fact I know there is mercury content, but the omega 3 benefits outweigh that or so they believe. So I just splurge here and there but LIGHT tuna only!!
374593 tn?1257879950 These large fish contain high levels of mercury. Albacore tuna also is high in mercury so you may want to choose canned chunk light tuna instead. Other types of fish are fine in limited amounts. You can eat up to 12 ounces (about two meals) of other varied fish and shellfish per week If you are taking Fish oils for omega 3, I would buy mercury free. One good brand is: http://www.babyhopes.com/omega3.html I do not recommend taking higher than 3 tablets per day of Pregnancy Plus Omega3.
14346590 tn?1451854557 t remember the exact amount, but tuna should be limited to 1-3 vans a week I believe. WIC actually provides tuna through their nutrition assistance programs. Albacore tuna should only be about 1 can a week (but it still counts as tuna). Fish has benefits, but as with anything moderation is key and make sure to check out that link, it'll tell you the fish to avoid. And when ask else fails talk to your OB at your next visit.
7155150 tn?1392091954 But I was told not to eat too much ( like a can every two weeks) and not until after the first trimester. Fish has omega 3 in it which is good for brain and eye development. There are other fish you can eat. I can't remember them all but Google what fish can you eat while pregnant. They give you a list of good and bad.
Avatar n tn I am not sure of your question. Are you asking where omega 3 and omega 6 foods come from? Omegas 3 / 6 are polyunsaturated oils that help lower cholesterol and help prevent blood platelets from clotting blood vessel walls. The best source is fish especially mackerel, tuna, salmon, and lake trout. Fish should be eaten 2-3 times a week. Omega 3 are found in whole nuts, soy nuts / oil, and canola oil. Recommend 1-2 teaspoons of nuts daily. Hope this answered your question.
Avatar f tn Our main concern with canned tuna, canned light tuna especially, is that about 20 percent of the data collected since 2005 by the FDA had levels of mercury in the tuna that were twice what the average is, so the probability of encountering some of those much higher levels of mercury is pretty high,'' he said. There is also a recent article from USA today saying the same thing. I'm not trying to spark a debate.
Avatar n tn It would surprise me if I had it. I eat a lot of leafy veggies, loads of omega-3 fatty acids(salmon, tuna), do a lot of exercise, am male, don't smoke, am lean and way under 60. I'm not the typical risk group. At least I hope I don't have. That seems like a serious disease.
Avatar n tn Yes it has omega 3 fatty acids which are essential for baby's brain development
Avatar f tn Tuna has some good things in it, particularly the omega-3 fatty acids, which are helpful for kidney failure in dogs. However, tuna also tends to have some other qualities, not so helpful. Some tuna have high levels of mercury, for example, and all tuna is really too high in phosphorus to be advantageous to kd dogs. You would be much better feeding human grade (that means meat designated for humans to eat) chicken, lamb, or beef.

It is important to know that some types of fish may contain mercury and other pollutants from the environment. Avatar f tn and has a ton of chemicals in it. Also, farm raised salmon is far less rich in omega-3 fatty acids which aids in brain and neurological development in a fetus. That is kinda the point of eating salmon (to get omega-3 fatty acids)... so make sure it is WILD. If you look for those 2 things you will be fine. You really should only eat approximately 4-6 oz. of fish a week though. 4-6 oz. is only about the size of your palm... so it really isn't a whole lot.

Avatar f tn I had 1 can of tuna, 3 scallops and stripped bass all in one week...I wasn't even thinking. Will my baby be ok?
1082155 tn?1268675169 My nutritionist told me light tuna is good reason being light tuna is made from small fish that have a shorter life expectancy, but solid white albacore tuna is made from a big fish that lives for a long time and carry lots of mercury and othe stuff that is not healthy for pregnancy....
Avatar f tn You need a certain amount of seafood for the omega 3, and I think they say max one can of tuna a week, but tuna is a higher mercury fish. I think you can have more of the lower mercury ones without a problem, but I would double check with your doctor or even just google it. Make sure you cook whatever you're eating, though.
Avatar f tn Thank you I've been craving it and my moms making it tonight (:
Avatar f tn I ate tuna my entire pregnancy, I'm due in 3 days. As long as you don't eat it everyday you should be fine.
