Olanzapine for depression

Common Questions and Answers about Olanzapine for depression

zyprexa

Avatar m tn OK, I will try to consult with my doctor for Zyprexa (Olanzapine). Wikipedia said FDA approved it for only Mania in bipolar patients not for depression. But I think antipsychotics also reduce depression by looking at the experiences of different people. Can Risperidone also work like Zyprexa? I am currently on it with an anti depressant.
Avatar f tn I was put on olanzapine an anti phycotic on top of my fluvoxamine meleate 200mg for deap depression after and home invasion. While the olanzaoine was helpful with my depression i think it was also causing leg pain. the longer I took it for the worse the pain got and more pain meds I needed to take to get threw my day to just walk. Once I was strong enough to come off olanzapine I weaned my self off and the leg pain started to get better over time.

Clonidine is very helpful for the creepy-crawly feeling and control of blood pressure variations. It will make your withdrawals easier. Valerian and Magnesium is sometimes helpful remedies over the counter.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with anxiety and depression. Doctor prescribed Clonazepam .5mg and Buproprion XL 300mg... After a couple months and not much change my doctor adds in Olanzapine 5mg, problem is I've been doing a bit of research online and am now too nervous to take the Olanzapine(Zyprexa) with the Clonazepam(Klonopin). Every thing I've seen has basically said that these two can interact very badly causing shallow breathing, loss of consciousness, etc.
Avatar f tn I have had depression for 20 years, and know I must stay on medication for the rest of my life. I am 69 so not so bad, for a younger person it must be a worry. Obviously you have to stay on an anti-depressant until you feel you are well enough to stop. I have stopped 3 times, but for me, the depression always comes back. You have to decide what is best for you. It is known that depression does often return. Try stopping, if you feel you want to, and see how you go. Only you can decide.
Avatar m tn Many medications used to treat mental illness cause weight gain in many users. Different meds have different effects, so while one might result in weight gain, others won't. It's trial and error. When the only drug that works causes a lot of weight gain, that's a big problem.

574118 tn?1305135284 depression 300 mg mania or schizophrenia 800 mg My question would be is whether the potency chart you linked to is only for psychotic/delusional symptoms or also for depression, as some are also used for depression, Seroquel and Ability, for example. May I ask the reason you take the Seroquel? Also, who here takes the Seroquel specifically for depression and what there dose is?
Avatar m tn That's great! I have heard really excellent things about lamectil (brand name for drug you started). This sounds like the right fit for you!! It's amazing when we start to resurface from a mental health spiral. Seeing light again is a beautiful thing. Do you also do therapy?
Avatar f tn Hi, I was on olanzapine my dose was anywhere between 5mg and 12.5mg. I felt a lot better on seroquel after the transition period. I find I am not as drowsy and my appetite isn't as strong, meaning that I am not gaining as much weight. Olanzapine is good for crisis but day to day I find seroquel suits me better, hooe it goes well for you too!
Avatar f tn t be the medication tho I was taking NOTHING else but me and my GP saw those twitches and tremors alright! ) ..swapped to 1 x 5mg olanzapine for three weeks and now okay enough to Research, tremors decreased by 90% but packing on the weight despite regular exercise. With sedation I get my situation under control and my fears scuttle off far enough away for me to live outside of four walls...
Avatar f tn Hi, I was recently diagnosed with bipolar disorder, but have been on the medication for it since 2009. I experienced a lot of weight gain (40 pounds) on this medication (olanzapine), and it just added to my depression and made me miserable and totally unconfident. Also, although I haven't experienced a full-blown manic episode in a while, my depressive episodes have become harder and harder to cope with.
Avatar m tn He told me I am suffering from depression and I believe the medication he is giving is for treating depression. But I feel what I am experiencing is an anxiety disorder. I have developed this guilt and fear. And most of the time I experience these thoughts coming back to my head about the abuse which are haunting me. At times I feel my brain isn’t working properly. I have mentally dull. Everything seems unclear to me. My thoughts are unclear. I feel really weird at mind.

Avatar f tn Before I was on olanzapine I couldnt sleep till 4am after going to bed at 11pm and having my eyes closed for all that time whilst trying to sleep, the problem was was that my mind was racing, and couldnt turn off. Now I am working night shifts and it has really caused problems with my bi-polar and sleeping, its as if my tablets no longer work, so I shall be going onto a higher dosage maybe. But yes, I do get very tired from olanzapine!
Avatar m tn I have been diagnosed with depression and social phobia from a psychiatrist.Initially i took escitalopram and olanzapine for one year but then i changed doctor because i didn't like him so much.I noticed that after the first couple of weeks of taking the meds my cognitive abilities dropped down a lot.The new doctor prescribed me prozac and rhisperdal but right now i also have short term memory problems.
Avatar f tn Have you ever looked for a physical cause for your insomnia? I was an insomniac for 30 years also. I needed iodine and when I took iodine supplements my insomnia disappeared. I am hypothyroid.
Avatar n tn Well, it’s natural for you to feel apprehensive as being shifted to a new drug and its dose is being reduced. Both Olanzapine and Resperidone are atypical antipsychotics. So, basically, you will be taking the same class of antipsychotics. Resperidone is however a very potent antipsychotic. The response to treatment has been found to be more stable with Resperidone, so that’s a plus point with this drug.
Avatar f tn They took me to psychiatrist that put me on olanzapine 10mg and kept me in the hospital for 10 days. Traumatic experience. Than after 2-3 months the doctor put me on 7mg, and now I'm on 5 mg olanzapine. It was harder to cope with rest of the world the first few mounts. I didn''t want to do the things I wanted, It was hard to cope with my previous social life, I felt like I have nothing to talk to my friends, like my brain is empty, like I'm brain washed.

603015 tn?1329862973 Hi I have started to tapper off olanzapine because of the weight gain, I have noticed that after just a week on the reduced amount I have started to have sleep problems, I am finding it harder and harder to get to sleep, then when I do get to sleep I am waking through the night, could this be the reduction in the med and what should I do if anything, im not due to see me pdoc until 1 june when I would be fully off this med.
497482 tn?1212948534 dear nicc, Ive been on sodium valproate for about six years, previously i was on olanzapine. I think that everyone 's reaction to medications is fairly unique as I dont find memory loss or fogginess a problem with the valproate . what i can say is what your describing sounds very familiar to how i felt as a teenager on olanzapine, i remember my emotions were dulled down and i didnt feel i had a personality .so i think it is very likely that ur medication is giving you these responses.
