553947 tn?1215306493 Hi, Trichotillomania is a type of psychological condition that involves strong urges to pull hair. It affects more girls than guys. Most people who have it develop it during adolescence. People with trichotillomania pull hair out at the root from places like the scalp, eyebrows, eyelashes, or pubic area. Some people pull large handfuls of hair, which can leave bald patches on the scalp or eyebrows. Trichotillomania is a type of compulsive behavior.
Avatar f tn I was put on olanzapine an anti phycotic on top of my fluvoxamine meleate 200mg for deap depression after and home invasion. While the olanzaoine was helpful with my depression i think it was also causing leg pain. the longer I took it for the worse the pain got and more pain meds I needed to take to get threw my day to just walk. Once I was strong enough to come off olanzapine I weaned my self off and the leg pain started to get better over time.
Avatar f tn s hair is called Trichotillomania. It is an anxiety disorder. I might suggest you google this phrase to learn more about this issue - "children and trichotillomania". You should be able to find lots of information on the internet. It might be wise to mention this to your daughter's pediatrician on your next visit. I hope this helps ...
Avatar f tn While I have not taken it, I know that a good deal of the antipsychotics out there, including olanzapine, can cause sedation. Antipsychotics can also be activating where they will cause insomnia if you take them before falling asleep. I'm sure there are people here who have taken it and experienced sedation.
6452367 tn?1430944592 Will Olanzapine help with withdrawals from Oxycodone. I am down to 10mg of Oxy and it has been a fight for me.. I did wean myself off Hydrocodone which made me happy but then I got on oxy 30 mg and have reduced my dosage. Will this medicine help me.
Avatar n tn Hi Cindy, Many individuals diagnosed with Autism (and other developmental disorders) engage in problematic and self-injurious behavior, including hair-pulling (trichotillomania). But trichotillomania isn’t restricted to individuals with developmental delays – many typically-developing people also pull their own hair. So I’d be cautious about looking at the behavior as a feature of her Autism.
1190847 tn?1287363025 yeah it is called Trichotillomania. I have been pulling my hair out since 12 and never stopped. I find it a very hard habit to break. I think the sensation of it feels good, so how does one stop? I don't think its physically harmful unless you swallow the hair.
Avatar n tn Both Olanzapine and Resperidone are atypical antipsychotics. So, basically, you will be taking the same class of antipsychotics. Resperidone is however a very potent antipsychotic. The response to treatment has been found to be more stable with Resperidone, so that’s a plus point with this drug. Both drugs cause similar side effects, but Olanzapine shows fewer motor function side effects than Resperidone in comaparative clinical trials.
Avatar f tn They took me to psychiatrist that put me on olanzapine 10mg and kept me in the hospital for 10 days. Traumatic experience. Than after 2-3 months the doctor put me on 7mg, and now I'm on 5 mg olanzapine. It was harder to cope with rest of the world the first few mounts. I didn''t want to do the things I wanted, It was hard to cope with my previous social life, I felt like I have nothing to talk to my friends, like my brain is empty, like I'm brain washed.
603015 tn?1329862973 Hi I have started to tapper off olanzapine because of the weight gain, I have noticed that after just a week on the reduced amount I have started to have sleep problems, I am finding it harder and harder to get to sleep, then when I do get to sleep I am waking through the night, could this be the reduction in the med and what should I do if anything, im not due to see me pdoc until 1 june when I would be fully off this med.
Avatar f tn 5mg and Buproprion XL 300mg... After a couple months and not much change my doctor adds in Olanzapine 5mg, problem is I've been doing a bit of research online and am now too nervous to take the Olanzapine(Zyprexa) with the Clonazepam(Klonopin). Every thing I've seen has basically said that these two can interact very badly causing shallow breathing, loss of consciousness, etc. It would be much appreciated if I could get some feedback from anyone who has taken the two together.
Avatar f tn I have and it is still unclear...She is up for another doctor vistit tomorrow... The first one has no idea.. He feels like it maybe a form of OCD....I am still lost on the issue..
Avatar n tn You have trichotillomania. You should see an Eye MD and a psychiatrist.
Avatar n tn Hi, My daughter was just daignosed with Trichotillomania. I have been devastated by this and am trying to wrap my brain around it. She is 10 years old and has been pulling her hair out of her head. She starts therapy next week and her pediatrician wants to put her on Zoloft. After doing much research I realize how hard this is for all of those who suffer from it, and my heart breaks for anyone who has this disorder.
Avatar n tn I think you should visit a dr and tell him/her about your compulsive eyelash pulling. I used to do the same thing. I pulled eyelashes, eyebrows and hair. It was when I was a pre-teen and all through my 20's. I sometimes still pull my eyelashes but not too often so I know when I'm under stress when I do it. I believe it is an OCD called trichotillomania. I never got "help" for it because it basically went away on its own.
Avatar f tn It's called Trichotillomania. I do it on occasion just like my mother does. I don't have scars from it, but did have too shave the areas i was consantly picking at. OCD medication works for this.
Avatar f tn I have really bad Trichotillomania. I do it whether I'm bored or under stress. I am taing 200 mg zoloft and klonopan. I feel good except I pull my hair out. It feels good but looks awful. Any ideas on how I can stop? Thanks!
Avatar m tn Actually its called trichotillomania. Its a condition that's a form of obsessive compulsive disorder and treated with medication for that. Look up the term and explain it to your psychiatrist. That is readily treatable.
Avatar f tn I have been on olanzapine for 15 years and has helped me greatly with anxiety, and other mental health conditions. I am 35 years old and have over the past 7 weeks experienced extreme pain in my feet and ankles. I had also over the past 6 months experienced tingling in the feet and legs which I believe is a side effect of long term use off olanzapine. I have been very concerned over the servere pain in my feet as it is all over the foot and can be painful to walk on.
Avatar m tn Last night I took my first olanzapine pill(5mg), for panic attacks and apparently I did some weird things in my sleep. My girlfriend said my legs were twitching, and sounded like I was choking when I was snoring. It only happened last night, and not this morning when I was sleeping. I feel normal today, just a little dizzy(I slept 15 hours). Is this normal?? Thanks Also, I can't stop sleeping!
Avatar m tn Hello, I have been diagnosed and treated for psychotic depression, OCD, anxiety for last few years. I was on olanzapine for 1 year (5mg), and it worked like making me sleepy really quickly and knocked me out in within 10 mins. Then I was on and off basis as I was not so glad to taking medications because all next I was sleepy. Recently my condition has worsened and I am taking 2.5 mg as said by doctor (take when required and your condition etc).
