Nexium vs prilosec otc

Common Questions and Answers about Nexium vs prilosec otc

nexium

709686 tn?1277432159 Esomeprazole (Nexium) is slightly different than omeprazole (Prilosec). But your body could react the same way. You could try a small amount and see. There are some combo otc drugs by Rolaids and others that have an antacid and famotidine (acid reducer). Those probably don't work as well.
Avatar n tn t allow Nexium to be sold/patented because it was so similar to Prilosec. Prilosec = Omeprazole vs Nexium = Esomeprazole, just go with Omeprazole and pay the generic copay.
Avatar m tn Can you take nexium one day and Prevacid the next? I am struggling to find something to help stop the burning in my chest and back. I started on Prilosec 4 years ago for GERD. When that didn't cover it, I was switched to Nexium. Then my primary switched me to Protonix 40 mg/daily. That worked for the last year. I tried taking Celebrex for a hip problem and that threw my reflux into overdrive! It's been 6 weeks and I can't get the flare under control.
Avatar f tn I think it really depends on the person. I've tried Prilosec, Nexium and Aciphex, all for extensive periods of time. My # 1 all-time fave is Nexium, and Aciphex is also very effective. Prilosec doesn't seem to work as well. Just my experience.
Avatar f tn The best medicines I have been prescribed are Nexium and Protonix. Protonix has a generic available so is inexpensive and works perfectly for me. Studies have shown Nexium to be consistently the most effective but it is more expensive and not always covered by every health insurance plan. United Healthcare for example does not cover Nexium.
Avatar n tn I have been taking Prilosec OTC and my Doctor prescribed Nexium. It seems to me that they are the same, with one being extremely cheaper. I am Beginning my fifth month of pregnancy and I would like to know if it is safe to continue taking prilosec otc.
698496 tn?1228112508 S (Proton pump inhibitors) are fine to take before or during tx. I am on tx and taking nexium, prevacid is also a good one. prilosec otc is also fine to take. I took it before starting tx and my viral load had never been lower. Not that prilosec made a difference but it sure did not make it go up.
Avatar n tn It appears that maybe the lack of nicotine has caused some change in your stomach. Ten years ago, I developed a second ulcer, and I have taken one OTC Prilosec a day for 10 years with no problem. Why not try an experiment and take one Prilosec or Prevacid a day for 4 days to learn whether your heartburn has stopped? The stronger pill, Nexium, has just become available OTC and may deserve your consideration.
296025 tn?1233256719 Prevacid is a Protein Pump Inhibitor (PPI) like Aciphex, Nexium and Prilosec. It's indicated for GERD (chronic acid reflux) and as far as I know has nothing to do with treating Hep C, other than if you happen to have GERD. I believe Prilosec is a generic sold OTC but not 100% sure so speak to your doctor and pharmacist regarding switching off.
977806 tn?1249067346 Hello. I have GERD and just received a prescription for Nexium (have been using OTC Prilosec but after using a couple weeks of samples found Nexium worked perfect for my symptoms). I have individual Carefirst but horrible prescription plan. I just purchased 30 Nexium at $160.00! Is there anyone that has ordered from Canada online and if so do you have any recommendations for an online pharmacy. Thanks for any information.
Avatar f tn Nexium is just fine to take on treatment as is the other PPI's. My hepatologist ordered me Nexium during tx and then led me go to Prilosec or prevacid when the became OTC. And sense i'm now SVR there wasn't a problem with them.........
Avatar n tn My doctor diagnosed me almost a year ago with "the worst case of acid reflux [she'd] ever seen." Literally, I would drink a glass of water and get reflux issues. I was put on Nexium for a long time, and I have since switched to Prilosec OTC because I ran out of health insurance. It's been about five days on Prilosec but I keep feeling nauseous in the morning after I take it, but it's nothing too bad and it goes away fairly quickly.
Avatar m tn Doctor reccomended Prilosec OTC. She was still leaning toward gallbladder. Day after started taking Prilosec, pain was the worst it had been at that point. Note, to mitigate the pain, i was taking Ibruprofen. Realizing that if it was an ulcer, I stopped taking the Ibruprofen. Prilosec seemed to help after that. Felt as if improving. Had HIDA done. Normal results. Day I got the results (before I got them, just to rule out my brain turning against me), started feeling worse.
Avatar f tn I am on Nexium and it has done nothing. I still feel the same. Doc just told me to try Prilosec OTC so I started that today. The past few days I've been starting to get nausea in patches throughout the day. For example, today i've had it steady all day, with it getting worse at certain times. Please help!
979080 tn?1323433639 Was on nexium now on prilosec, theres also prevacid that will soon be over OTC too. Some do better then others on these. As for viral load didn't matter mine went way up and went down, as a matter of fact when i started my last tx it was lower then it had ever been. Was it the prilosec? No Good luck to you............
Avatar m tn I have been suffering with abdominal pain for about a year and a half now, i had an endoscopy in January 2009 and was diagnosed with mild Gastritis and Reflux, i was given Nexium to take which i took for 4 months and felt better. After a couple of months it came back again but felt worse so i was told by the doctor to go back on Nexium again which i had taken for 3 months and the pain and burning had not gone away.
Avatar m tn I get bad nausea from some of them .. so may be worth trying another brand and see if it goes away. Just my two cents as a patient ... I take Prevacid w/o a problem that is very pricy vs generic for Prilosec. I'd ask your Dr and see what he/she thinks, too ?
Avatar f tn I was taking 3 tums at a time like 5 times a day lol but now im all good
Avatar n tn You can experiment with OTC-versions of prescriptioned medications to reduce stomach acid. Acid-reducer medications such as Prilosec, Nexium, Zantac, Prevacid, and others are available at any pharmacy. I have GERT, and I had an ulcer. I take one Prilosec, 20-mg, a day with no pain. Prilosec OTC, is 10-mg, is a good start. Take two if you later think you need it.. If I take two Prilosec, 20-mg, I get dry-mouth, so I only need one for 24 hours.
Avatar m tn Prilosec, Nexium Side Effects: Acid Reflux Medication Heart Attack Class Action Lawsuit Investigation A recent study found that proton pump inhibitor heartburn treatments such as Nexium, Prilosec and Prevacid may be linked to an increased risk of heart attack, heart failure or sudden cardiac death.
Avatar n tn Don't tell a 15 year old to take prilosec OTC when she/he hasn't even gone to a doctor to see what the pain is. It may have absolutely NOTHING to do with acid reflux. The CORRECT answer is go see a doctor. period. No "guessing" about what it might be and offering treatment solutions without knowing what it is.
1943416 tn?1324166761 I been taken prilosec otc for 14 days for heart burn.its the best med out there.so i finished the 14 day trial and i dont have heart burn any more but i still feel a little small burn so i asked a pharmacyst if its safe to take more than 14 days she said yes it is but the resson the box sais to consult a doctor is to make sure its not self medicated .
963268 tn?1312900315 Also, inquire whether an acid reducer like Prilosec, Zantac, Nexium, Prevacid is prescribed for you? In the meantime, you can try the OTC-version of the mentioned medications. The concentration of the OTC medicine is usually half of the prescribed medicine. Take one or two tablets to get relief for you.
Avatar n tn I have actually been on some form of reflux med for a bit longer than 5yrs and started with Prilosec OTC, then prescription Prilosec, Nexium, Aciphex, and briefly Prevacid. These days I tend to take whatever I have in my medicine cabinet (Aciphex or Prevacid) twice a day, max dosage, and occasionally a tagamet to help out. I have a hiatial hernia that is going to be fixed soon so I am hoping to get off the meds and that the side effects will eventually go away...I hope.
690060 tn?1247841741 Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has new data showing that omeprazole (Prilosec/Prilosec OTC)—a medicine used to reduce stomach acid—reduces the anti-blood clotting effect of clopidogrel (Plavix) by almost half when these two medicines are taken by the same patient." "...Patients using clopidogrel should consult with their healthcare provider if they are currently taking or considering taking omeprazole, including Prilosec OTC" but then, there's also this: http://www.
