nexium

Avatar n tn My mother was on long term acid blocker nexium (similar to prilosec (omeprazole) but more powerful) and these were some of the dozens of symptoms that she no longer suffers with since stopping nexium... severe major clinical depression, severe anxiety, severe constant fungal infections, homocysteine in imminent heart attack range, severe angina pain, severe stomach pain (nexium worsened her gastritis), sky high blood pressure - given less than 5 years to live by an international specialist.
Avatar n tn Nexium is safe to use long-term.....I have used it on and off for about 10 years now. I am going through menopause myself. You also should include life style changes if not being done already.
679466 tn?1247006054 I just pulled this article from the world wide web. http://health.msn.com/health-topics/articlepage.aspx?cp-documentid=100205363&page=2 Here's an interesting excerpt: Prilosec and Nexium Heartburn can be uncomfortable, but heart attacks can be fatal, which is why the FDA has investigated a suspected link between cardiac trouble and the acid-reflux remedies Prilosec and Nexium. In December 2007, the agency concluded that there was no "likely" connection.
Avatar m tn However, not everyone who takes the medication will experience side effects. If side effects do occur, in most cases, they are minor, meaning they either require no treatment or are easily treated by a healthcare provider.
Avatar m tn The weird side effects continued and new side effects emerged such as white hair,. hair falling out, weight loss,. muscle soreness,. stomach pain, and runny nose. I complained about this again and finally after 3 months, the doc switched the medication to a different PPI. I still had side effects so then I was switched to an H2 blocker. I have been off all PPIs and h2 blockers for 4 months but im left with side effects that I have no idea how to get rid of.
Avatar f tn I can certainly sympathize with you....while I was on long term steroids, the puffiness along with stomach problems were terrible. Steroids are really harsh on the GI tract, it is good that the doc has you on Nexium/Prevacid to help block acid production. Maybe you need higher amounts of the medications to fully block the acid, I personally have to take double the dose while on Prednisone due to the pain.
Avatar m tn worsened IBS - bad abdominal cramps (caused by Nexium together with fever and Zantac) a white-coated and burning tongue (caused by Prevacid, Zantac, Protonix, Pepcid, Riopan). I'd like to know if anybody has experienced intollerance to the various antireflux medicines similar to mine. Have you ever had a severely burning tongue caused by them?
Avatar f tn Jails, institutions or death are the most common long term side effects I have seen, or the person quits and has a program of recovery. Why do you ask?

Avatar f tn I am currently on SSDI and also long term disability, actually am up for a review on my Long Term, so we shall see what happens. This discussion is related to Gastroparesis.
Avatar f tn It mostly works for my GERD - without it it is unbearable. The problem I have is the terrible side effects. They are all gastrointestinal. I am miserable all the time. I feel like my food takes FOREVER to digest and move through my system! I feel like when I eat the food just "sits" there for such a long time. I feel constipated, but can "go" most days, though not completely. I have gained about 8 pounds, and most days I look like I'm pregnant!
Avatar n tn Medications are given to alleviate symptoms, in your case for GERD. But Nexium is not for long term use. Anti-inflamatories also have side effects that can be detrimental if taken for long periods of time. Since you have taken it for years, and continue to have discomfort over your rib area, your doctor has an obligation to you to try and diagnose the cause. Medications can mask the problem without actually treating it.
Avatar m tn I have no symptoms and feel great; I am 54 and wondering if HEP C would kill me or if the treatment could cause long term effects that could ruin my health. The longest living male in my family was my father 86 and had slow progressive dementia the last 10 years.
