Common Questions and Answers about Neck and shoulder pain injury

neck

Avatar m tn ve since recovered, sometimes when I do exercises that involve shoulder and neck movement, the injury comes back. There's pain in the exact same spot and my shoulder starts to sag. Other times, the injury doesn't come back, but I feel like there may be a nerve snapping about around my shoulder blade. Can any give me insights on how I can go about fixing it?
Avatar m tn In the last year or so, I have developed pain wiht typing. The pain occurs in the my shoulder, my neck and my upper back, especially in my shoulder blades and under my arms in the rib area. Also the pain seems to be worse on my right side from the side of my neck down to my right shoudler and shoulder blade. I also get a knot in the middle of my back. I have tried PT to strengthen my back, but with no help. The pain kept returning. I have tried antiinflammatories and muscle relaxers.
Avatar m tn While it is possible to have a concurrent shoulder injury/bursitis, the shoulder pain could have also been related to your neck problems. I hope that you are under the care of an orthopedic spine specialist, and if possible, a referral to a reputable surgeon.

Avatar n tn Six months ago, I strained my muscle between my neck and shoulder, after running. Sometimes, the pain started at the base of the skull and at times my shoulder. I went to the doctor and took a xray that did not show a dislocated or herinated disc. I went on vacation and did not run but swim. I was free of pain. I have started back to running and thepain is back. What could be wrong?

Avatar m tn I originally started with shoulder/neck pain, and doctors couldn't figure it out. Turned out it was my C6-C7 nerve being pinched due to degenerating discs. It's possible yours could be from something similar, ask your doctor for an MRI.
Avatar m tn In Aug 07 I was rear ended by a truck. Since day one I had severe neck and shoulder pain...about a month and half later they found a goiter that showed up in my mri. Now a little over a year later I have all kinds of nodules with the goiter. Can these nodules form from whiplash injury or is this just a coincidence? I still have not been able to return to work due to neck, shoulder and right arm pain.

Avatar m tn About 2 years ago, I fell down the stairs and hit my head on a tree. They took me by ambulance and hospital did a CT scan and said I was okay. Ever since, I've had migraines, severe neck pain, bad vision, and the last year has developed into extreme back pain, upper and lower, my hip feels like it will fall out of its socket and has been hurting so badly that I cant lie on my right side anymore and my shoulder on right side also severely painful.
Avatar m tn it runs along the thoracic spine but controls the right arm and shoulder and chest. I had neck surgery and damaged this nerve by getting into a car accident while wearing my neck brace. It hurts like the dickens and takes a long time to heal but if the therapy you are receiving is not targeting this and you do have this problem it will never get better. It is a particular little bugger.
535758 tn?1213715961 Problems from this area do cause pain into the arm and shoulders. There is always scar tissue. I have permanent neck and shoulder pain since my surgery (and before). As well as pain into my shoulder blades. I had all these problems before surgery. So really, the surgery did not help me at all.

Avatar n tn Hi, I think your symptoms may be due to nerve irritation in the cervical (neck) spine because of cervical disc bulge. This pain may be referred and perceived as occurring in the back of head & shoulders (as it blades)- LHERMITTES SIGN, arms or chest, rather than just the neck. Other symptoms may include vertigo, nausea (dizziness) and stiffness. It will be best that you consult a neurologist who would like to prescribe Pain killers, steroid and muscle relaxants.
Avatar f tn Don't know, but celiac disease can cause thyroid issues. I have celiac and have Hashimotot's thyroiditis. It caused a nodule near / on my Adams' apple. The doc did a FNA (fine needle aspiration) on it to determine the status. Pretty easy, he just stuck a small needle in the mass and send the sample for testing. No pain at all..
Avatar f tn They will be able to do nerve conduction tests to find any nerve that might be under pressure from something that cant be seen on an x-ray.The extreme cold makes the nerve pain worse in my neck, head and shoulder all the way down to my fingers. The feeling is like being pricked by a thousand needles and feels like I am standing by a bon fire, with cramping and muscle spasms, numbness. If this sounds like anything that you might be going through, you ought to go see your family doctor like I said.
Avatar f tn s what it was called). Ever since the injury my right shoulder has sat forward and I still feel pain if I move it back (and it doesn't go back all the way). So my question, what measures can I take to increase the mobility of my shoulder so that it will eventually go back to normal (and therefore improve my posture, as well)? I am thinking along the lines of daily excersises (for example), as the doctor recommended massage and physiotherapy. Are there any particular excersises you recommend?
Avatar m tn injury which it turns out was a neck injury. Most of my pain started in the top shoulder and the muscle going from the shoulder to the side of the neck. Shortly after that the pain went to my armpit and the back of my shoulder. Now I have pain/burning/tingling down my arm and into my hand, my arm often feels like it's dangling by a string and I have pretty bad neck pain as well. An MRI showed I have some bulged discs in my neck.
Avatar f tn It may be irrelevant but 5 months ago while doing bench press i heard a knack on my neck and on the day after my neck got stiff real bad and ever since my neck is not the same ans im having higher back and neck sharp pains on some movements on the same side of the injured shoulder. Does anyone have experienced this or something similar?
Avatar m tn Neck pain with numbness in fingers, neck is locked in, feel very lite headed, any ideas?
Avatar n tn Thank you so much for answering my question. I was in a car accident this past august and have undiagnosed neck and shoulder pain since then. A few people have mentioned it could be a brachial plexus injury. I've had 2 shoulder MRIs which were negative except for enlarged axillary lymph nodes which is concerning. They are not at all palpable and my doctors are stumped as to what is going on.
Avatar n tn Hi im 19 and experiencing the same thing in between my neck and shoulder area. The lump feels like ball.. I can feel its spherical shape and can move it around. Ita not painful, but if anything comes in contact, i can feel some pain. What is it?
Avatar f tn m just another person like you dealing with pain in me left arm, shoulder and neck. It is a sharp piercing pain that goes all the way up to the shoulder and neck. I have been checked all over, MRI, MRA, spinal tap, EEG, EKG and other test too numerous to mention. My left arm is very weak and if I try to use it, the pain is excruciating. I can't sleep on it and it wakes me in my sleep. My neurologist latest diagnosis is it is all in my head. Depression. Get over it.
Avatar n tn The reason that I know that it is from this injury is because I get dull pain on my shoulder and that is what wakes me up. I think that the neck pain comes from me tossing and turning all night long in order for me to find a comfortable position to sleep. What medical experience do you have to say that it is a pinched nerve. I was hoping to get a medical student or doctor to help me find a solution to my problem so that I can sleep.
Avatar m tn You may certainly have wrist tendonitis, but why the neck and shoulder pain. The pain and numbness you are having could be from your neck and an EMG would assist with that answer. It is a nerve conduction study. You also need an xray and MRI of your neck to rule out that as a cause for your numbness. I would see a neurologist.
