Neck and shoulder pain headaches

Common Questions and Answers about Neck and shoulder pain headaches

neck

Avatar n tn You're right, inflammation of the shoulder wouldn't explain the neck pain. Shoulder pain can refer to the mid and upper back, however a more likely scenario would be that you might have a nerve that's slightly pinched in your neck. That would explain the upper back and shoulder pain, because nerves in the neck refer pain to both those places. All you probably need is some anti-inflammatory meds and sometime in Physical Therapy to stretch and strengthen those neck muscles.
Avatar f tn So I got neck pain, headaches, shoulder pain, leg pain, and tenderness. I just started back working (because of this economy, not because of my back pain), and I swear I am in the worst pain ever. I can not sit up straight, in the same spot, for too long. Even when I'm leaned against a pillow in bed or on the sofa, my back and neck aches. I stay in pain!!
Avatar f tn I have headaches everyday! For 7 yrs now. My pain start's in my neck and shoulder area, and moves quickly to my head, but the pain stay's in my neck also. Light hurt's, noise, lifting my head up - down- sideways hurt's and makes me very sick. I get hot all over. I cant work, I am scared. I have been to Mayo clinic- I have had everything done, I have a icecream pale full of medicine's that didnt help. I am 5'7 and 200 # I try to walk and bike but the pain is so bad.
Avatar n tn I also have been suffering with shoulder and neck pain, and even upper back. I was wondering if the two could be related. I was tested for hormonal problems, thyroid problems, myalgias, and anything else they routinely test for when they take your blood. I was given a low dose of antiepressant to help me sleep at night so I am not awakened with the pain. This helps at night, but I am getting weary of the constant ache.
Avatar f tn Do you have any suggestions for what I might be able to do on my own to bring some relief to the neck stiffness/pain and severe headaches that it causes until I get back to the USA again in 1-2 years?! Thanks!
Avatar n tn Hi, I have been having major problems with constant dull headaches (only really hehind the eyes and temple) that seem to radiate from my right shoulder, and rhomboid/scapula pain for about 1.5 years now and have pretty much given up. I have done Right AC Joint, Right Scapula, Cervical, and Thoracic MRI's along with X-Rays of everything with no major findings. Had facet joint injections in C5 and C6 and epidural cervical injection without relief.
Avatar n tn Roll a towel and place it under your neck while sleeping on the back and between head and shoulder when lying on the side. Initially this will be uncomfortable but with time the acupressure will work. Use an analgesic cream or spray. Anti-inflammatory drugs help. Also, you must improve your posture while sitting and working. An occupational therapist can help you with that. Take care!
Avatar n tn ve been having lots pain on my left side of my head going down towards my left neck down to my shoulder i also have kind of an ear ache my left eye watering.
Avatar m tn Hi, According to the National Headache Foundation, neck arthritis and headaches are common health problems. Wear and tear of neck cartilage and joints can press on nerve roots and can cause headaches, especially at the back of the head. Inflammatory diseases like rheumatoid arthritis can also cause spinal disruption which also causes headaches by pinching or pressing on neck and scalp nerves. if his headaches persist, he may need to have this checked before it gets worse.

Avatar n tn ve been having a lot of headaches, neck and shoulder pain, muscle weakness and tingling in my right arm and hand and even sometimes in my left hand. Avatar f tn I have since then been on MSContin and Percocet. I still have severe pain in my shoulder, bad bad headaches, pain when moving my neck from side to side (ear to shoulder), nerve pain running down the back of my arm into my elbow, top of my forearm and into my pinky and ring finger. I still have burning pain between my shoulder blades and am constantly tense at the base of my neck and into my shoulders.
Avatar f tn I am still having neck and shoulder tension and headaches still feel the tension in my shoulders all the time. Went to dentist to see if it was a bad tooth, been to the ear, nose, throat doctor, he said I need nose surgery, well I have known that for 20 years. But anyway this head stuff and tension is crippling. Anyone else had this problem? I am thinking maybe I need to have a brain scan next. Thanks for letting me whine. I am not usually such a baby. Oh!! I still cry daily.
Avatar f tn Hi, Headaches with referrence of pain to the neck and the upper back may have a cervicogenic headache as a primary differential.Cervicogenic headaches are due to an underlying spine problem. This may be considered in your case if you have history of engaging in some sports or prolongd computer use wherein the head and neck are not properly supported. A visit to a neurologist may be able to guide you.Other differentials will be a tension headache and migraine headaches without aura.
Avatar m tn precipitation of head pain by neck movement or awkward neck positions, head pain when external pressure is applied to the neck or occipital region, restricted range of motion of the neck, and neck, shoulder and arm pain. Treatment for cervicogenic headache includes physical therapy, medications, behavioral therapy, and other modalities.
Avatar f tn Yes, my roommate (male, 51) and I both suffer from migraine syndrome and often have neck/shoulder pain that triggers the headache. I have a couple of protruding cervical discs and have suffered two traumatic brain injuries with loss of consciousness. I find that reducing stress - easier said than done - can help, also avoiding straining my neck/shoulders and strengthening the muscles.
Avatar n tn s pressure in my head which causes headaches and discomfort. And it goes through out the whole day coming and going. It feels as if the pain starts in my neck(it always feels stiff like it needs to be popped but nothing..) and goes to the base of my skull and just radiates the pain in the back of my head. It feels like I can feel my pulse in the back of my skull with the pain. Could this be from bad posture? Would one of those shoulder posture braces help? Or should I goto the Dr.
Avatar m tn I wonder if it was a mis-diagnosis or half-diagnosis, and it makes me question whether the nerve pinching issues is actually at the shoulder RATHER than the neck. Regardless, the issue is no longer in my neck and shoulder, but in my neck, shoulder, and back. It's difficult to even pinpoint the pain. It's like one big, sore clump spawning from mid-back to shoulder to neck. DIFFICULTY SPEAKING: One of the red flags I'm experiencing is difficulty speaking.
Avatar n tn My systems have changed headache and dizziness is still there, now I am having pain in neck, chest and shoulder on right side. Legs and hurting and tingling. I had shoulder surgery for a torn rotator cuff and brositis in Sep of 08. Could any of this be relateted to the shoylder surgery? I am sceulede for an MRI with and without contrast of the brain and IAC. Is there anything else I need to look for or ask?.
Avatar f tn t know if its significant or not. My neck pain comes and goes, but I have a lot of shoulder, upper back and chest pain. In my chest its more pressure and tightness, than pain. But it is very uncomfortable. And the headaches, I get the headaches, bad ones.
Avatar f tn I have been wearing bite guard for last year and it got better but started hurting again this week really bad and having spasms in jaw and now my neck is killing me on the left side. Pain is going up the left side of neck and down left shoulder into arm. Have not had chance to go to doctor yet but am wondering if anyone with cervical disc problems has ever had it to affect temple and jaw area of face??? Am thinking maybe this isn't TMJ at all....

Avatar f tn Hi matd, I broke my neck playing softball some years ago and have had issues with neck pain and shoulder pain as well as headaches periodically. I have purchased several expensive pillows that promised to relieve the headaches and pain but none of them worked. I found that if my pillow is flat and my neck well supported I sleep more comfortably and wake with less pain and headaches. There are a multitude of opinions on facet joint and cervical injections.
