When it didn’t go away on its own after a week I saw a dr who looked at a urine sample under a microscope and declared that I had a very high level of white blood cells in my urine, likely as the result of a bacterial infection.
There was no discharge from my penis or any other symptoms so my dr thought it more likely to be anal bacterial than a traditional STI and so prescribed a 10-day course of Bactrim and told me to come see him again after the course.
Doc looked at my urine, said no white blood cells in urine, but decided to put me on 2 weeks of Minocycline 50mg twice daily. Two days after I started taking it my symptoms came ROARING back, including occasional discomfort in the perineum. I doubled-down to 100mg twice daily. After another 2-3 days without the symptoms getting much better I went to another clinic for a culture. Got tested for gonorrhea, chlamydia and mycoplasma. Three days later culture was ALL NEGATIVE.

Yes it would be good the urine and rectal culture. But even the urine culture would be good. Sometimes they like to do just the urine "dip stick" which shows them if you have white blood cells, nitrate or other products that be present if bacteria are there. That is OK. I personally prefer culture but they will do one if the "dip stick" is positive in any way. As for yeast you won't catch that on a "dip stick" test.
I noticed that my urine did have traces of blood and what looked to be tiny blood clots. I have had an annoying pain in my abdomen but also believe im constipated and will be starting my period soon—so not sure if the pain has to do with either of those or the UTI or both. Anyways—is the blood in my urine something to be concerned about—I have minocycline at home for my acne so I started taking those and cranberry chews when I realized it was a UTI.

I have done several tests like ultra sound and blood, urine test but the doctor said every thing is fine. I am really worried what is this pain that comes and goes. I was prescribed minocycline for my acne on the 21st of December and started taking it that day, found out on the 27th of January that I am pregnant with my first baby and I am driving myself crazy with worry! i have been taking minocycline 100 mg to 200 mg a day sometimes and using retin a micro 0.1% gel every night for 2 years.I have been getting alot of acne for the last 2 or 3 months so i went to my see my dermatologist.he said since i been taking minocycline 100 mg daily for 2 years and using the retin a micro 0.1% for 2 years and im still breaking out i should try something new like it may be wearing off....he put me on oracea 40mg once a day and differin gel 0.3%....

ve read on here that a person taking PEP should test after 3 months of being off PEP to obtain a conclusive result. I took minocycline for 4 months after possible exposure. Then got tested 3 and a half weeks later (around 5 months). Negative result. The test was a rapid antibody test. I have been on Minocycline for acne for well over a year. Usually I take 50mg twice a day, although for the last month have been on 75mg twice a day. If by some freak chance I had rectally contracted Gonorrhea or Chlamydia, would this antibiotic take care of it?

Hi. I have been on minocycline since I was 21 (now 29) for acne. I recently went to a new family practice Dr. While I was there he noticed I was on mino and asked how long I'd been taking it. I told him my acne treatment history. He pointed out that my shines were green (look like bruises). He asked how long I'd had those "bruises". I replyed that they'd been there longer then normal. Months maybe.
