Avatar m tn There are many antibiotics and most have side effects that can be really bad. A lot of drugs on line are not even at the dose they say they are. Also, only some bacteria are sensitive to mnocycline or a particular antibiotic . You can't just take an antibiotic and expect it to work unless you know what bacteria you have and which antibiotics work for it and if that particular strain is resistant to start with.
Avatar m tn Started Minocycline 100mg 2x per day for suspected neuro Lyme and feel horrible. I know herx is possible, but feel more like I'm experiencing side effects, and wondering if I should switch abx. How long should I stick with this? Anyone have success with Minocycline? Do the side effects lessen with time?
Avatar f tn There are all kinds of side effects to taking antibiotics, and they should only be taken if absolutely necessary. For one thing, there's the development of antibiotic resistant bacteria. For another, they kill off beneficial bacteria as well as toxic ones, and some of these beneficial bacteria play a role in mental health, such as producing B vitamins. The connection of probiotics to mental health is one of the hottest research topics in the medical field.
Avatar n tn Some people do much better than I did and expereince fewer side effects. I tend to be sensitive to meds and always have to read side effects of anything I take because I will get about half of them.
Avatar n tn I had stop using it and the irritation is even worse. I searched the cream and perioral dermatitis is listed as one of its side effects! So I've been applying a cream that gives me the same skin problem I already have!? Also I'm using Benzaderm 10% wash with aloe vera, Tazorac and taking solodyn (minocycline) for acne treatment. Do these products irritate perioral dermatits even more? and what do I do about steroid cream?
Avatar f tn Now have finished 2 yrs on daily antibiotic (minocycline and levaquin). Was doing well but have very unsightly and widespread blackening of skin, which does not clear up I believe my darkened cataracts developed as my skin blackened, and that this blackening residue is possibly in all my organs. Have recently dropped back to single minocycline/day (100 mg) but believe cysts may already be redeveloping.
507935 tn?1217359454 Minocycline is a commonly prescribed antibiotic for acne. AIH is not listed as a side effect to the drug (of course) but I wouldn't want anyone I know to be on it after what happened with me. My liver failure happened right before I got diagnosed. Just had the usual jaundice, joint pain, nausea, etc. I was immediately put on prednisone once they found out my counts were around 1500 and had a liver biopsy.
Avatar n tn It is better to persevere with one antibiotic for a fair trial rather than switching to another antibiotic too soon. Acne responds very slowly to oral antibiotics so be patient. You may need repeat prescriptions for as long as you are prone to acne. Roaccutane is usually reserved for cystic acne and it may increase the redness associated with peri-oral dermatitis. There are lots of good products to ease the redness of Rosacea and peri-oral dermatitis.
18663 tn?1198171815 There are many medications that are ototoxic to our ears causing hearing loss and tinnitus, some have permanent effects while others have side effects only while taking the medication. On your particular list, Asprin stands out the most. Asprin does cause hearing los & tinnitus as do most of the NSAIDS (Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs). As far as the your other medications, I would consult your physician to learn more about the side effects of those particular medications.
Avatar n tn steroid cremes have been known to have one a major side effect. It can cause periora dermatitis. Also, try to slack off on toothpaste with flouride.
1517845 tn?1311553534 I seem to have a pimply rash to the side and under my mouth. It doesn't ooze or "pop" like pimples can. It's dry. I did pick at it once (I know bad!) and it scabbed over. It's still here after about three weeks. I haven't been using any new detergents or facial cleansers. I'm so confused as to what this might be! I never have problems with acne; does anyone have any advice? Here is a picture: [IMG]http://i.imgur.com/gSBUS.
Avatar f tn Yesterday, after 3 phone calls, I was prescribed Minocycline 100mg # 30. Can you tell me why Doxy is preferred to Minocycline? Does the Doxy work faster than the Mino? I am allergic to NSAIDS if that makes any difference.
Avatar f tn I recently read about a genetic test called AcneDX that tests whether or not oral antibiotics will be an effective acne treatment. My teenaged daughter has moderate acne and tetracycline has been suggested. I'm concerned about giving her a medication that may have side effects and produce an antibiotic resistance later in her life, and it may not even work to clear her acne up. The test sounds like a great way to find out prior to treatment if the antibiotics will help.
Avatar n tn Hi, The adverse effects from minocycline hydrochloride treatment are uncommon, but there are few reported cases of hyperpigmentation as a side effect of its use. The cutaneous hyperpigmentation usually resolves after cessation of the drug. Tooth discoloration, however, generally remains. Pigmentation associated with minocycline most often appears in patients after long-term therapy, usually at doses greater than 100 mg per day.
Avatar n tn Discuss it with your doc. Probably it is time to stop the minocycline; I doubt any antibiotic is going to make a difference. Perhaps most important, none of these problems -- chronic prostatitis, recurrent/persistent NGU, CPPS -- causes serious health outcomes for either affected men or their sex partners. All are an issue of comfort and inconvenient symptoms, not important health difficulties. I hope this helps.
Avatar n tn Is a tetrocycline antibiotic such as minocycline adequate for treating a staph infection or would some other antibiotic be needed. Also just to be clear are you suggesting the crease may be there now as a result of the staph infection or just the blepharitis.
Avatar m tn The high lipid solubility of minocycline may cause vestibular [ear] side effects, limiting the administration of minocycline to 100 mg twice daily rather than 200 mg twice daily. Because of this, doxycycline (400 mg daily) remains the preferred antibiotic for treatment of Lyme neuroborreliosis. For patients for whom treatment fails, minocycline may be a therapeutic option [footnote omitted].
Avatar f tn I am not aware of any information that suggests that minocycline, or for that matter, any other antibiotic acts to either increase risk for HIV acquisition or would modify the performance of tests for HIV. Current tests for HIV look for antibodies. Antibody production in response to infection is not changed by antibiotics, menses or any of the other factors. The results of HIV antibody tests are to be believe.
12268405 tn?1427853361 The new drug, Minocycline, is originally an antibiotic, but turns out it substantially helps with few side effects the problems of schizophrenia. While it could be taken alone, until studies are made, you are stuck with having to take a drug like Clozapine to treat what you got. You did not create the hallucination of fleas all over, you did not make your symptoms of feeling worthless, paranoid, or hearing voices. These things happened because of the schizophrenia disorder.
Avatar f tn m dealing with all possible side effects this drug could cause. Is it going to get worse? Could anyone tell me their experience with this antibiotic?
Avatar f tn I have been on Minocycline for acne for well over a year. Usually I take 50mg twice a day, although for the last month have been on 75mg twice a day. If by some freak chance I had rectally contracted Gonorrhea or Chlamydia, would this antibiotic take care of it?
