Avatar f tn ) Also, like DaliaP, I have been reluctant to fill a prescription for Minocycline and Differin which were prescribed by our family physician for our 14 year old son. When I searched for side effects, they definitely caused some concern. Are the side-effects common? How do you know if the benefits outweigh the risks? We have tried over the counter products containing benzoyl peroxide and/or salicyclic acid, and sulfur. They seem to have made his acne worse.
Avatar f tn About bit over a month ago, I was started on Minocycline for adult acne. I took it twice per day for about 2 1/2 weeks when I suddenly started having what I believe was a reaction. It started with a stiffness and pain in my fingers on both hands. By the next day, it had spread into my wrists and elbows. Not thinking of the medicine, I continued taking it 2 more days. During those two days, my fingers, hands, and arms swelled until I could not wear any jewelry or my watch.
Avatar n tn Hi. I have been on minocycline since I was 21 (now 29) for acne. I recently went to a new family practice Dr. While I was there he noticed I was on mino and asked how long I'd been taking it. I told him my acne treatment history. He pointed out that my shines were green (look like bruises). He asked how long I'd had those "bruises". I replyed that they'd been there longer then normal. Months maybe.
Avatar m tn Hello, Accutane is one of the most common drugs to be prescribed for treatment of acne. However it should be used under medical supervision and there are many side effects. Accutane increases the sensitivity of skin to sunlight and also causes hyperpigmentation as its side effect. Usually it goes away after you stop the medicine but it goes away very gradually and may take several months to go away. In some cases it is irreversible and may not go away.
Avatar n tn I get it on my chest, back and face I have went to a derm since I was 18 but it never seemed to really help and I felt like since my acne was mild they never really cared. When I get acne it lasts for multiple weeks or months which is why its so agonizing especially cause afterwards I am left with post acne marks that can last up to a year. It has totally messed up my self confidence and has made me totally insecure.
Avatar f tn I've been taking mino for two weeks. My dermatologist prescribed it to me for my severe acne. Lately I started having an allergic reaction. My scalp, my palms in my hands, feet and my body started itching really bad. I feel like ants all over my body. I stopped now and took benadryl pills and it helped. So now, what am I going to do now to help fix my acne?! I don't like Accutane either coz I read bad side effects. Any suggestions? Thanks for the advice.
Avatar m tn I have been on Minocycline for coming up 9 years now and i'm currently down to one 50mg pill a day to control my acne, my question is what effects does it have on my cognitive ability and memory over such a long period of time.
Avatar f tn I have been reading that minocycline can cause black thyroid in some people and can take up to a year to reverse after stopping medication. it is given to teenagers for acne and my son was on it for 6 mths twice a day having severe headaches yet the dr ignored it until I googled and realized that it could be effecting his thyroid and causing the headaches since those were listed as symptoms and wondered if anyone else ran into that.....his thyroid test did come back 4.6 with the top normal of 4.
7988747 tn?1396207441 I was on minocycline for acne for just as long as you have been. The truth is yes it can have effects but the risk is very very very low. I was put on special fetal growth monitoring, and had to see a specialist. Im now six months pregnant with a perfectly healthy baby. They said it's really a low chance because i wasnt on it very long but they still wanted the monitoring, and took me off of it two weeks ago because baby is so healthy!
1517845 tn?1311553534 Perioral dermatitis like acne is a chronic papulopustular and eczematous facial dermatitis. It mostly effects women and appear around the nose, mouth and eyes. Treatment consists of oral antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs. A mild soap or soap substitute, such as Dove or Cetaphil should be used for washing. Scrubbing should be avoided. Doxycycline is the preferred antibiotic for perioral dermatitis but minocycline can also be used.
Avatar f tn Hi, A few months ago I visited my doctor to discuss options for decreasing the amount of acne I have, for a few various reasons. We decided to use a topical cream, for the more oily areas on my face, and for me to take a 100mg dosage of Apo-Minocycline two times a day (morning and night). This worked fantastic for a few months. Eventually, I developed this odd rash on one side of my neck.
507935 tn?1217359454 Minocycline is a commonly prescribed antibiotic for acne. AIH is not listed as a side effect to the drug (of course) but I wouldn't want anyone I know to be on it after what happened with me. My liver failure happened right before I got diagnosed. Just had the usual jaundice, joint pain, nausea, etc. I was immediately put on prednisone once they found out my counts were around 1500 and had a liver biopsy.
Avatar f tn I have been on Zoloft for about 7 months now, after dealing with crippling anxiety and depression. this medicine really worked wonders! recently I was put on Minocycline for my chronic forehead and shoulder acne, and I was all for the idea of clear skin, whether I had to take pills or not. ever since, slowly but surely, my anxiety is making a reappearance, along with my depression, both of which I thought were long gone.

Avatar m tn A clinical trial led by doctors Luanne Metz and Wee Yong shows the common acne medicine minocycline can slow the process of MS in people who have experienced initial symptoms of the debilitating autoimmune disease. The clinical trial that led to minocycline’s proved efficacy was conducted at the university’s Hotchkiss Brain Institute at the Cumming School of Medicine. The results of the trial are to be published in the New England Journal of Medicine on Thursday.
Avatar m tn I have acne all over the back of my head and on my back it hurts to touch in some spots and to dry my hair.
Avatar n tn m using Benzaderm 10% wash with aloe vera, Tazorac and taking solodyn (minocycline) for acne treatment. Do these products irritate perioral dermatits even more? and what do I do about steroid cream? I can't see my derm until next week and I don't know what to put on my face anymore. Please help!!
Avatar n tn The treatment that you have been prescribed is correct. If you are having any side effects then get the antibiotics changed and even oral antibiotics can be added. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
Avatar f tn I have been on Minocycline for acne for well over a year. Usually I take 50mg twice a day, although for the last month have been on 75mg twice a day. If by some freak chance I had rectally contracted Gonorrhea or Chlamydia, would this antibiotic take care of it?
Avatar f tn I was prescribed minocycline for my acne on the 21st of December and started taking it that day, found out on the 27th of January that I am pregnant with my first baby and I am driving myself crazy with worry! Everything I've read is telling me that minocycline is extremely bad to take while pregnant or becoming pregnant.
Avatar n tn I took roaccutane in my late teens and it cleared up my acne wonderfully for a few years, but then it came back, and worse. My skin is much more sensitive now than it ever was before - rashes all the time.. Also, there have been big 'hoo haas' about whether or not it causes depression. I have also suffered a number of clinical depressions since. The best thing I've found for acne is Brevoxyl (4% benzoyl peroxide). It's a cream, available over the counter.
