Avatar n tn Hi. I have been on minocycline since I was 21 (now 29) for acne. I recently went to a new family practice Dr. While I was there he noticed I was on mino and asked how long I'd been taking it. I told him my acne treatment history. He pointed out that my shines were green (look like bruises). He asked how long I'd had those "bruises". I replyed that they'd been there longer then normal. Months maybe.
Avatar f tn I have had bleeding gums and gum disease for years. Im 28yrs old now. Each time i go to the dentist they tell me about best ways to clean and floss. I try my best but still never seems to go away. I have brought a very good new oral b electric toothbrush to ensure I clean to the best of my ability. I also floss. I have tried natural mouthwashes and toothpastes containing herbs like myrrh etc which are known to help keep gums healthy.
Avatar f tn Took my mother to the dentist finally since she had refused to go for several years and since shes been having problems with loose tooth and was a problem that needed to be addressed prior to spinal surgery. Dentist diagnosed her with severe gum disease that was causing bone loss and said most of the tooth has to be extracted eventually or they'll fall out. Cause may be cause of smoking (which she quit) or braces that she had at a late age.
Avatar n tn I also have suffered with chrones disease for the last 23years and was wondering if this could be a factor to gum disease. My teeth are in good condition and I only have 3 fillings. I am 39 years of age. Please could you advise.
Avatar f tn It depends on what your dentist told you or what he prescribed. You might want to try Orajel - which is commonly used for toothaches, but I use it for gum problems as well. If your gums hurt because of wisdom teeth or molars there is not much you can do, besides wait it out. Try to only eat liquid foods such as soup or broth.

7649778 tn?1401294601 Is it possible to have a higher chance of gum disease from pregnancy? My doctor never said anything, and I always brush and floss, but it's like overnight or super recently my gums got in really bad shape and I just noticed. Could pregnancy be the reason why?
Avatar f tn It's great news that you are doing well on your treatment! I don't recall anyone posting here about minocycline, but then my memory's not what it used to be, ha. Also not familiar with the Sunnybrook test -- Sorry not to be more useful! Hope you continue to improve. PS If you're up for some heavy reading, you might try the ilads [dot] org website, the 'about lyme' tab, and read Dr Burrascano's treatment guidelines.
Avatar n tn over that time i have been experiencing acne on my face and developed cysts under the jaw bone on both sides of my mouth. The dermatologist gave me amoxicilliyn for about 2 years which cleared up the cysts and acne. I stopped taking amoxicil. for 7 months and went to another dermatologist who put me on minocycline. but i feel that the cysts are coming back.
Avatar m tn TXLDA is the short name for Texas Lyme Disease Association, and they can likely give you names of Lyme specialists near you. ---------------------------------------------------------------- As to cost of the tests and doctor visits, your insurance may cover much of it, or if you don't have insurance, then ask TXLDA (see above) and also go online at ILADS [dot] org for MDs or organizations who may be able to assist you financially. Best wishes to you!

Avatar m tn When the researchers adjusted for the results of MRI scans, the odds rose to 43.0 percent with minocycline but stayed the same with placebo. Yet after two years, the unadjusted risk was comparable in the two groups, raising the possibility that the benefit may not last." https://www.reuters.
494623 tn?1278279352 I have a Friend in Canada who has been on Minocycline for her RA for years and says she could not function without it,I asked my Doctor to prescribe this for me but he says it's not proven to be effective so wouldn't give me it !!! I have read that it IS effective not as a cure but by killing the bacteria that may be causing the RA symptoms. I am totally convinced it was the MRSA infection that caused my RA in the first place as I was absolutely fine before that happened ....
Avatar m tn I went for my regular dental check up in Toronto (Family Tree Dental) and I was shocked to hear from my dentist that I have Gingivitis ( gum disease), but I never experienced any pain or bleeding How can this be detected at earlier stage?
Avatar f tn Minocycline is one of the listed drugs that cause vitamin B12 malabsorption. Minocycline also has anti-thyroid effects. Long term treatment with minocycline (at least 100 mg/day) can cause hyperpigmentation of the skin, nails, bones, thyroid, teeth, palate, eye, heart valves. Thyroid cancer is frequently found with black thyroid syndrome (macroscopic black discolouration of the thyroid gland).

Avatar n tn Since my episode, I have taken 45 doses of 100 mg Minocycline in connection with my treatment for acne. I have read that taking antibiotics can affect syphilis test results. If I test for syphilis, will my minocycline medication lead to an inaccurate result? Furthermore, would the minocycline eradicate the syphilis from my body?
Avatar n tn The hepatologist says that it was caused by the minocycline that she was taking for acne. She has some scarring on her liver and is currently taking prednisone. The doctor hopes that this won't be a lifelong disease since it appears to be drug induced. This has been and still is, very frightening for us. I pray a lot.
Avatar m tn I took minocycline with rifampin for my Bart's. I had no problems with it.
Avatar f tn I was prescribed minocycline for my acne on the 21st of December and started taking it that day, found out on the 27th of January that I am pregnant with my first baby and I am driving myself crazy with worry! 280418 tn?1306325910 I disagreed, but, he still wrote me a script for minocycline (sp?) and said he would treat for six weeks, then reasses, treat for six more, then reasses. He said this would keep him out of hot water. Since I disagreed with the "not neuro" dx - he is sending me for an EEG. A friend of mine with Lyme had this EEG and it was wildly abnormal. He then dx her with neuro Lyme and I assume he will do the same with me depending on the outcome of my EEG.
Avatar m tn I have all of the symptoms, no money to get tested. I do have some old minocycline and tetracycline from old acne.
