Avatar f tn Minocycline is one of the listed drugs that cause vitamin B12 malabsorption. Minocycline also has anti-thyroid effects. Long term treatment with minocycline (at least 100 mg/day) can cause hyperpigmentation of the skin, nails, bones, thyroid, teeth, palate, eye, heart valves. Thyroid cancer is frequently found with black thyroid syndrome (macroscopic black discolouration of the thyroid gland).
Avatar m tn I am newly diagnosed with HIV last February of this year, had my cd4 count (t-cells) checked and it's still good at 462. i've been exercising regularly and taking 1000mg of vitamin C and centrum multivatimins once a day. just recently I developed red spots on my face and on my forearms, I had it checked with my doctor and told me it was caused by an allergy and is now under medications and food observation to figure out which food i am allergic at.
Avatar m tn Feeling horrible after starting antibiotics for a long term Lyme infection is really common. I always check out the side effects lists on a new medication so I can pay attention to what's happening to me. Sometimes, it's hard to differentiate side effects from herxing/die off, such as fatigue or stomach upset. But in my own experience, when an antibiotic made me feel like death warmed over, or turned me into an anxious, trembling, unfocused mess, those were herxes.
Avatar f tn I was prescribed Minocycline for acne by my dermatologist. I started to experience small little thoughts that caused a slight bit of anxiety after taking it for two weeks. From there it just climaxed to the point where every night was spent in a state of extreme anxiety where I was lucky to get any sleep at all. It got to the point where it didn't just happen at night, but it was 4-5 times a day. It was noticeable enough that everyone around me in school took notice of my depression.
Avatar f tn t really understand what the connection was, but I wanted to know if I could trust my HIV test results even though I am on Minocycline, and was for months before, during, and after my HIV test. Also, just to ease my mind, is there ANYTHING else that could effect the validity of an HIV test (aspirin, menstrual cycle, diet, anything)? Thank you so much in advance, I really appreciate your help.
Avatar f tn Hello, Perioral dermatitis like acne is a chronic papulopustular and eczematous facial dermatitis. It mostly effects women and appear around the nose, mouth and eyes. Treatment consists of oral antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs. A mild soap or soap substitute, such as Dove or Cetaphil should be used for washing. Scrubbing should be avoided. Doxycycline is the preferred antibiotic for perioral dermatitis but minocycline can also be used.
Avatar m tn I know you said this thread is ended but could you please take a look at this and tell me what you think of it and could this data indicate that minocycline could indeed slow down replication making it possible for delayed seroconversion, which would make my test at the 5 month mark inaccurate. http://jid.oxfordjournals.org/content/201/8/1132.full This is where all of my anxiety has came from.
Avatar m tn The test was a rapid antibody test. Can someone please weigh in and tell me could minocycline possibly be used as a PEP drug for HIV? And if so, should I be worried about my status? Should I test again? I'm worried because I read on the web minocycline is an investigatory drug for HIV that has been shown to reduce replication of the virus. Here's the link. http://jid.oxfordjournals.org/content/201/8/1132.full Please advise. Any replies are helpful. Thanks.
Avatar m tn 3% not as strong as the retin a mico 0.1% i was on and minocycline 100 mg daily to 40 mg a day oracea for only redness and not pimples would help ?seems like it would make it worse..please explain...
Avatar f tn My doctor prescribed me minocycline and I started taking it for about four days and then found out I was pregnant. I have stopped taking it since, but now I've read some of the birth defects that it causes and I'm really scared. I'm only about 5 weeks and was just wondering if someone could give some more in depth info on the possibilities of something happening to my baby. I was taking 100mg twice a day.
Avatar n tn Amitriptyline/nortriptyline,gabapentin/pregabalin,minocycline, and dexamethathone. Seeing a neurologist or Orofacial pain specialist who is familiar with management of nerve injury is advised.
Avatar f tn My breasts never stopped hurting between when I started and now, I am constantly tired, and very worried someone lease let me know whats going on.
Avatar n tn Went to the derm today, I mentioned the minocycline and the autoimmune. I asked her if autoimmune could be an issue. She asked for my family history with autoimmune and other diseases, but there's no one in the family w/ that issue (except my grandmother who I've always seen scratching her scalp). She basically said "I have no clue why your folliculitis is so stubborn". So she got some blood and they will check for white cell count and other things related to autoimmune.
Avatar f tn I red the article. I can see now that taking Vitamin E, Vitamin C and Selenium for a long time was a mistake. Perhaps this is why my PCR jumped from 1.000.000 to 17.000.000 in 3 months. On 15 of January I'm going to begin the second treatment with Interferon, Rib.and Boceprevir. (the first time I was on placebo) It will be good if I could begin the treatment with a lower viral load. If the virus is still detectable, after 4 months of treatment, I will be taken off the treatment.
Avatar f tn This is really a question for your doctor, as they should be the only one making medication recommendations for you, but as far as vitamin C and pregnancy, it should be safe, I'd check with your doctor especially if you are on any other meds that could be effected by the excess vitamin C before you start any.
Avatar f tn I am a female with genotype 1 - stage one damage and am trying to find Hep C doctor. I live in Fort Worth Texas. I want to persue treatment with the new drugs but am not happy with the doctor I saw today. I currently have some bouts of depression and terrible insomnia. I am treated for my insomnia/anxiety with Temazepam 15mg and Trazodone 50mg. I also take Minocycline 100 mg once daily. The doc I saw today said I could not take ANY of those meds for him to treat me.
Avatar n tn Is it ok to take vitamin c gummies to help boost my immune system.
374593 tn?1257879950 Would vitamin C (1000mg or more) help with fertility and endometriosis while undergoing fertility treatments? (IUI's with femara, and progesterone supplements) Since they say that endometriosis has an immune component, I was curious if adding more vitamin C supplements would be useful in combating that? Thanks so much!
Avatar n tn I am a survivor of 10 years and I am finished with Tamoxifen and have till October when I will be finished with Femara. My urologist wants me to begin taking Vitamin C and Acidophalos?? I wasalways told that one shoud not take vitamins, having had cancer. I am allowed to take Evening Primrose Oil 1500 one a day to prevent breast cysts. I am most concerned about starting Vitamin C.

Avatar f tn It's great news that you are doing well on your treatment! I don't recall anyone posting here about minocycline, but then my memory's not what it used to be, ha. Also not familiar with the Sunnybrook test -- Sorry not to be more useful! Hope you continue to improve. PS If you're up for some heavy reading, you might try the ilads [dot] org website, the 'about lyme' tab, and read Dr Burrascano's treatment guidelines.
