Avatar m tn I've been diagnosed with Folliculitis on my face and my Dermatologist put me on Minocylcine 100mg for two weeks (2x a day). I've noticed that it's clearling up, but I had a small outbreak today--I've been on the antibiotic for about a week now. I have had this on going for about 3 months....my wife is also experiencing this now. Also, about 3 months ago when I noticed the Folliculitis, I was experiencing severe dizziness, and I am still dizzy all the time.
Avatar n tn I have had 1 culture of the pustule done in India which showed that the organism was staphylococcus.(No MRSA screen done with it).My current folliculitis is worse and it seems to get worse and it seems to recur very often after a very short period of relief .(it seems to recur within 3-4 days of stopping antibiotics). So I have no option than to continue the antibiotics. I am currently using oxytetracycline antibiotic.
Avatar n tn Went to the derm today, I mentioned the minocycline and the autoimmune. I asked her if autoimmune could be an issue. She asked for my family history with autoimmune and other diseases, but there's no one in the family w/ that issue (except my grandmother who I've always seen scratching her scalp). She basically said "I have no clue why your folliculitis is so stubborn". So she got some blood and they will check for white cell count and other things related to autoimmune.
Avatar f tn I have been on and off antibiotics for this, including cephalexin (twice) and minocycline. My skin clears up on the medication but it breaks out again about week after treatment ends. I was also given some topical treatments, including a benzoyl peroxide wash and ketoconazole shampoo (used a body wash) to alternate with every day, and clindamycin topical lotion which i did not see much improvement with. I even tried nasal mupiricin ointment because my doctor thought it was staph.
Avatar n tn Hello, Without examination, confirmation of a diagnosis is tough but it can be folliculitis. Folliculitis is the inflammation of one or more hair follicles. Pls keep the area clean and apply some topical antiseptics. Also wear loose-fitting cotton clothing and use an antibacterial soap or mild soap like dove.Avoid any kind of cosmetics. Topical antibiotics such as neomycin and calamine are also useful. In case the symptoms persist then oral antibiotics may be needed.
Avatar m tn s twice in the last two years and have been told it was genital herpes at first, but then have no antibodies in my blood test for hsv 1 or 2. Then I went and got checked at a Planned Parenthood and described my symptoms and was told that because of the area of recurring bumps that it was most likely folliculitis and also be tested negative for herpes.
Avatar f tn I went to the doctor two weeks ago. He looked at my skin, told me it was a bacterial infection, and gave me minocycline pills, desonide lotion, and betadine scrub. I used everything as I was supposed to, and my infection got worse! The bumps started to cluster and new ones seemed to pop up every day. I went back to my doctor last week, and told him the antibiotics weren't helping. He said it could take several weeks to see any improvement.
Avatar m tn The dermatologist said it was foliculitis and put me on minocycline (50mg twice a day for three months), however, a month into the course the problem flared up again. My dermatologist then prescribed purbac double strength (trimethporim sulphamethoxazolen twice a day for two months). This worked, however two days after the course ended i started to break out again. I feel like im in a cycle of antibiotics, and my social life has completely disintegrated.
Avatar m tn Prior to Accutane I was on Bactrim and Minocycline for entirely too long (mino for about two years, then bactrim for about two, and then mino again for two more years). Outside of the occasional red mark which more closely resembles a pimple that is not terribly sore, and a case of jock itch every so often, I have no reason to suspect that I have an STD such as herpes. But I'm still concerned.
Avatar m tn //www.webmd.com/skin-problems-and-treatments/tc/folliculitis-topic-overview You need to see a doctor. And don't be embarrassed. Doctors see and hear stuff every day. You're no different than anyone else they see.. Get checked and get to the bottom of the problem so you can treat it and get some relief.
Avatar m tn First of all, diagnosis needs to be established as that will affect the choice of treatment and prognosis. Based on information provided, Folliculitis, Hydradenitis supurativa, and Acne inversa should be taken into consideration first. Please, let us know what diagnostic tools were/are utilized by your physicians and with what conclusions. Second, preventative measures can be of great help. Avoid: shaving with dull razor, friction, exposure to occlusive chemicals and sweat.
Avatar f tn I have been reading that minocycline can cause black thyroid in some people and can take up to a year to reverse after stopping medication. it is given to teenagers for acne and my son was on it for 6 mths twice a day having severe headaches yet the dr ignored it until I googled and realized that it could be effecting his thyroid and causing the headaches since those were listed as symptoms and wondered if anyone else ran into that.....his thyroid test did come back 4.6 with the top normal of 4.
Avatar f tn t really understand what the connection was, but I wanted to know if I could trust my HIV test results even though I am on Minocycline, and was for months before, during, and after my HIV test. Also, just to ease my mind, is there ANYTHING else that could effect the validity of an HIV test (aspirin, menstrual cycle, diet, anything)? Thank you so much in advance, I really appreciate your help.
Avatar m tn I am in the healthcare field, an internist, and I have also had issues with chronic folliculitis since 3rd year of medical school(6-7 years). I am very healthy otherwise, no health problems. At first it responded with short a course of Doxy. Then I was put on Clinda for suspected MRSA. then when it came back again I saw an Infectious Disease doc i was put on BactrimDS and this seemed to be the best .
Avatar m tn I know you said this thread is ended but could you please take a look at this and tell me what you think of it and could this data indicate that minocycline could indeed slow down replication making it possible for delayed seroconversion, which would make my test at the 5 month mark inaccurate. http://jid.oxfordjournals.org/content/201/8/1132.full This is where all of my anxiety has came from.
1630773 tn?1299747792 It mostly effects the nose, mouth and eyes. Treatment consists of oral antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs. A mild soap or soap substitute, such as Dove or Cetaphil should be used for washing. Scrubbing should be avoided. Doxycycline is the preferred antibiotic for perioral dermatitis but minocycline can also be used. In unresponsive and granulomatous forms, oral isoterinoin may also be considered. Pimecrolimus cream can also be used.
Avatar m tn The test was a rapid antibody test. Can someone please weigh in and tell me could minocycline possibly be used as a PEP drug for HIV? And if so, should I be worried about my status? Should I test again? I'm worried because I read on the web minocycline is an investigatory drug for HIV that has been shown to reduce replication of the virus. Here's the link. http://jid.oxfordjournals.org/content/201/8/1132.full Please advise. Any replies are helpful. Thanks.
Avatar m tn 3% not as strong as the retin a mico 0.1% i was on and minocycline 100 mg daily to 40 mg a day oracea for only redness and not pimples would help ?seems like it would make it worse..please explain...
Avatar f tn My doctor prescribed me minocycline and I started taking it for about four days and then found out I was pregnant. I have stopped taking it since, but now I've read some of the birth defects that it causes and I'm really scared. I'm only about 5 weeks and was just wondering if someone could give some more in depth info on the possibilities of something happening to my baby. I was taking 100mg twice a day.
Avatar m tn In February, I got retested again and it came back negative for both. I went to a dermatologist and he prescribed me solodyn (minocycline) for folliculitis and said that most likely that is what it is. Recently I experienced the same bumps on the same side of my lower lip where my lip meets my skin. I went to get it tested today and the doctor did not test for herpes, but said that it most likely was herpes.
Avatar f tn I have never had any herpes outbreaks, but have never been tested. She gives me 2 antibiotics for folliculitis and UTI (urinalysis was borderline) and draws blood to test for herpes. She was also nice enough to give me Diflucan.
Avatar m tn I have seen 3 different dermatologists and have tried Minocycline, Erithromicine, and now bactrim. Also, I have tried applying retin-a, tazarac, Clindagel, and Benzaclin. The bactrim alone seems to keep the problem at bay when I initially use it but then it seems as thought the potency wears off and the problem returns. I have also tried hormone replacement therapy to the tune of $1,100/month, changing my diet and every over the counter product you can buy at a dug store.
Avatar n tn I have been to two doctors (general practice) and one issued me Minocycline and the other told me to try Sarna Cream and buy a Humidifier. Well, obviously that didnt work because I am posting here today on the internet. I would greatly apprecaite any help/advice and my anxiety is really getting the best of me! (Thinking its possibly herpes).
Avatar f tn It's great news that you are doing well on your treatment! I don't recall anyone posting here about minocycline, but then my memory's not what it used to be, ha. Also not familiar with the Sunnybrook test -- Sorry not to be more useful! Hope you continue to improve. PS If you're up for some heavy reading, you might try the ilads [dot] org website, the 'about lyme' tab, and read Dr Burrascano's treatment guidelines.
