We do have the right to express our opinions, with a few exceptions, health matters being one of them, that arena needs peer reviewed science. Did I miss something regarding milk thistle? The main point seems to be milk thistle "walls" off the live preventing it from doing its job.
Does anyone know if milk thistle is good, bad, or of no effect? I read somewhere that it is helpful for liver problems so started taking it. I won't see my dr. for almost three months so can't ask him until then.

What level of liver damage do you have? He might be continuing for possible reversal effects.. Milk thistle is good, but not on tx.. And there are alot of other supplements that you need to take in conjuction.. It is the cocktail of vitamins and supplements that do the good.
My Liver Center Pharmacologist recommended I suspend the Supplementation of Milk Thistle while on my 24 week course of Harvoni. He said it can interfere with the chemical actions of the Harvoni. My experience with milk thistle was a miracle.Before starting the hcv treatment hubby took milk thistle just for a month and it reduced his alt ast levels from above 150 to 65 and 60......Dnt take heavy dose just 400mg a day and if it dnt give any benefits it will also dnt harm.......it's very safe............

i have been taking milk thistle for years now... my ast/alt are lower than ever (just about normal) and my viral load has dropped also... so i guess its doing something... i also just started taking liv-52...
I take Vitamin D3, B-12 and 6, Vitamin C, Milk Thistle, and Lisinopril. I have not had a eGFR under 65 since. Of course diet is a major factor as well. Basically if it tastes good you can't have it.

Patients with early stages of cirrhosis normally don’t have any physical side effects. It’s the beginning of the final stage that symptoms will manifest. What does anyone know about Milk Thistle and/or Licorice Root for liver function? I've heard that in the beginning of the disease it can help. Not so in the end stages. Also, does anyone have any input regarding Noni juice?
I have never had my liver tested in the past. As of two weeks ago, I began taking 2 capsules of milk thistle to try and help my liver out during these hard times. My questions are: Does milk thistle help? Is there anything else that I can take to help my liver? What kind of long term damage have I caused so far to my body? Also, I know that I am posting this on an addiction forum but please spare me the "you have to quite routine"... Thanks!!
Talk with your doctor about this and they can run tests to make sure your liver is okay.
but you have to consult experts and know what you are doing...millions take milk thistle for example, and have reported good results...I can't take milk thistle, (allergic) but I do take others and I have consistetly had good labs having had this disease for 30 years, not saying it's all due to my regimen, but I know it's helped with my symptoms and possibly inflammation... I do realize there are some bad herbs out there, and we have to be aware of them...as much as we are able...
