Avatar n tn I wish I could help but I am not that familiar with it. Your doctor should have discussed this further but if he/she did not, try going to the health food store. One thing I know is "Milk Thistle". Good luck and let us know if you found something.
Avatar m tn Hello. I am very sorry that you and your dog have gone through this experience. In fact, the biggest known reason for poisoning occurring in dogs is through accidental access and ingestion of human medicines. It's a big lesson for us all. Your vet is absolutely right. At this stage, it is too early to tell what level of damage to the kidneys has occurred. An ultra-scan and Xrays of the kidneys would probably help determine it, but no doubt that is an expense you are unable to afford.
10805050 tn?1420935520 My Liver Center Pharmacologist recommended I suspend the Supplementation of Milk Thistle while on my 24 week course of Harvoni. He said it can interfere with the chemical actions of the Harvoni. For whatever that's worth to anyone..... Wishing everyone the best, and thanks so much for so many who responded and added to my "Harvoni Progress" Post...you guys are great!
408795 tn?1324935675 There are alot of questions in this area about herbs like Milk Thistle and other herbs, sometimes for ppl who were non-responders or ppl who are putting off tx for one reason or another. I just found out thru my job that there is one tx that is being used to tx HepC and it's not approved by the fda and the chamber is to be administered by a medical doctor only. There are so many ppl who are taking advantage of the HepC community to make a fast buck, so I wanted to let you all know.
Avatar n tn The studies that I have read regarding milk thistle and liver health show mixed results. I have read that it does coat hepatocytes (liver cells) , protects those cells from damage and can actually improve liver function...other studies question whether there is any therapeutic value at all. Personally, I take a milk thistle supplement twice daily...figuring that it can't hurt. However, I wouldn't suggest that you take any supplementation without first consulting with your physician.
Avatar f tn Milk thistle helps people who have liver damage due to toxins such as poison mushrooms, etc. Unfortunately, it does nothing to help protect the liver from damage caused by the hepatitis C virus.
