methadose

Avatar f tn t having to raise the dose to meet th epain need of their patient. And also methadone has shown to be a good pain med used for long term chronic pain relief becauuse of the above reason (and it's much cheaper). I do have to say you were on a heavy dose of oxy if i understand correctly..20mg 1 in the am, 2 in the afternoon and 2 in the evening.
Avatar f tn TN is not a methadone friendly state. My pain management specialist had me on methadone for 12 years after trying other optoids with no success. I regained about 70% of my ability to function and good pain relief. I was able to go back to work after a year in bed. With the controversery over the increase of methadone related deaths my doctor decided to wean me off methadone and put me on pain patches, then morphine, then oxy everything.
Avatar n tn I am on Methadone for chronic pain management. Did you try any other drugs first? it's a little strange if you did not try any other medications and they put on Methadone to begin with. Did you discuss that with the doctor? Methadone builds up in the system very quickly in some people. I just started taking it 2 weeks ago. I was very weak, very sleep. My blood pressure is normally low but it dropped to 115/50. The Methadone built up so quickly in my system.
631581 tn?1224844661 Not for addicts but for those who have USED or are USING methadone for chronic pain. I would really love to talk with more people who are in the same shoes I am in. But then I've had chronic pain since I was 17. I'm 34 now and it seems like it just might be my life. Without methadone I was taking 4 Advil every 8 hours and I've ruined my stomach. So there's another trade off. The fact is there doesn't seem to be an answer.
Avatar f tn Actually there are several very good articles on the use of methadone for long term treatment of chronic pain. It is beleived to be the narcotic least apt to be abused and has the least side effects. I'm sorry I forgot the author (a respected PM Physician) of the best and most informative article but maybe someone here will remember. I found it by goggling it. Dosage may have to be increased in time but again they beleive not as often as other opiates.
1050179 tn?1253899186 I have searched for the excellent articles that was written by a physician on the positives of methadone treatment for Chronic Pain (CP) sufferers. I cannot find it.This physician felt that methadone was the best opiate for chronic pain with the least side effects. I will keep looking but it has not come up on my goggle search. I assume because I can't remember the name of the physician. It should be in MH archives as there was a discussion on this articles some time ago.
Avatar f tn For anyone who has ever taken Methadone for chronic pain management...When you first started taking Methadone, how long did it take for it to control your pain? How many days, weeks, etc.? My best friend was started on Methadone to manage completely debilitating chronic pain that is the result of multiple, major, back-to-back abdominal surgeries. Tonight marks the fourth full day of her being on Methadone, and she's really not feeling any better. How long can it take?
Avatar f tn Jaqui, methadone is an excellent medication for pain for a variety of reasons, and helped me to manage pain of a long-term spine disorder for 12 years. There is research that links methadone to a particular cardiac problem. The cause is poorly understood, but to minimize risk, my doctor has ordered a 12-lead ekg with my annual physical (when I am using methadone), since i am also in my 60s. So far, I remain without cardiac symptoms.
Avatar n tn hi, my husband is on 60mg of methadone (pill form) a day for chronic back pain. He's been on this regimen for 4 years now. If he runs out of his pills before he gets the new script how long will the last dose of methadone stay in his system and how quickly will the "dt's" start? I am asking because the doc had to resched his appt and he might run short and want to be prepared.
Avatar f tn Also, have your regular doctor write up a medical report documenting his reasons for not prescribing methadone as treatment for your chronic pain and bring this documentation to your appointment with your insurance dr. I agree it is an uphill battle but don't give up and please keep us posted.
Avatar f tn Thanks for all the info and input in regards to my post. However since my post I've learned that the sub treatment she is receiving is for addiction only. The pain I was informed of was just to keep from having to say that there was a relapse. She is my ex's girlfriend. I knew last summer she went into detox for a bad oxy addiction, however they had split up before she was released.(due to other issues).
5772022 tn?1373978536 I was put on methadone 14 years ago for chronic pain. 4 years ago I was taken off of it cold turkey. In desperation a got into a methadone clinic. I'm finding that the liquid methadone doesn't seem to work on pain as the pills did. Is this In my head or is there really a difference. Also is this site for online addiction support or is it medical advice. Kind of confused on that issue.
1476285 tn?1287337784 I am interested in info from anyone doing the new 3-drug regime w/ interferon, ribavirin and telaprevir who are also taking suboxone. I am currently on suboxone: 3/5's to 1/2 tab per day. I wasn't put on it for drug abuse but I was on pain meds (lortab & fentenayl patch) for chronic pain. I went on suboxone to get off the pain mgmt regime.
Avatar m tn Wish I could help more with other pain management options as I suffer from chronic pain myself. There is a pain management forum here on med help. Maybe try and post your question there and I'm sure you will get plenty of support! Here's the link.... http://www.medhelp.org/forums/Pain-Management/show/53?camp=msc Best of luck to you!
877402 tn?1241569071 i had a 4 year love affair with them starting out for chronic pain and ending up addicted..
939983 tn?1262528060 5 mg of hydrocodone is equivalent to about 15 mg of methadone. But this is for single dose not for long term pain management treatment. Most physicians beleive in the good practice to start low, go slow. Remember that methadone builds up in your system. It is stored in your body tissues. So it may take days before the full effectiveness of methadone is realized. Methadone levels in the blood will continue to increase for five days from the initial dose.
Avatar f tn Most recently, I have been on 60 mg of methadone daily for 10 years. The pain management doctor in Oregon told me that it is illegal for any pain management doctor or any primary care physician to prescribe methadone to a patient with the diagnosis of "opiate use disorder" here in Oregon. She is therefore cutting me off cold turkey and refuses to titrate me down. This sounds incredibly wrong and inhumane. is this actually true?? If so, what are myoptions?
Avatar m tn I deal with chronic pain, I am wondering what to do, should I ask my doctor for methadone because its used for chronic pain and doesn’t abuse the liver like opiates do. I think if I were on 40mgs and took it as a split dose, where i took 20mgs in the morning and 20mgs in the evening would work. With opiates, you build up a tolerance and soon the perks wont work. Whereas methadone you don’t build a tolerance for it and it helps with pain.
408795 tn?1324935675 I was on Methadone for 1 year exactly almost to the day. I went in for treatment after abusing pain pills as well as fetanyl pacthes among other things. That was in 2006 and has nothing to do with my Hep C as I just found out I had it this past January. My point is it is defiantly likely not to have you trapped on it for life cause I am living proof that you can get off it you just have to want to not trade one thing for the other.
Avatar m tn I am a fall risk due to constant loss of balance. I am also starting to loose feeling in my feet. Since I first was started on treatment for pain 8 years ago all I have been prescribed was Norco 10/325 4x a day. I have been questioning the pain clinic regarding this since Norco is a short term use drug. I just asked the doctor If I could be building up a tolerance he advised me it would take at least 20-30 years.
1736483 tn?1310604753 I have been going to a clinic for about 3 years, I need to be treated for high blood pressure and severe lower back pain as well as the methadone treatment. Searching for a private Dr that can help with treatment for all issues with the intent of getting off methadone eventually while treating the other issues. I also would like to use my Blue Cross health insurance. Thanks for any suggestions.
Avatar f tn Now why would you feel guilt for that? My doc has me on methadone for pain, I also wanted to be on it in hopes I could control my drug cravings, my Dr. doesn't know about any addiction problems. Sometimes I wonder if suboxone wouldn't be better for me, would need a different doctor though.
Avatar f tn I was originally put on it for pain management but after a falling out with the dr wound up at a methadone clinic...I went from a moderate dose all the way up to 150ml as I built up a tolerance to the drug ..at first it managed my pain but then it quit working and left me with a huge addiction to feed ...I finely said enough is enough and decided to get off...when I went to the clinic they said they would do a medicaly supervises withdrawal it would be 2 ml every 2 weeks...
