I've been experiencing some really irritating short-term memory loss problems (for myself as well as other people). I am 35, female and trying to figure out why and how I can improve this. Ther are a few things I have considered...I was in an auto accident last year. I was t-boned and the driver side airbag went off and pretty much saved my life.

In my opinion it's not uncommon to have some memory issues while you are on an opiate, especially if it's an acute problem or short term high doses of opiate therapy. Usually these clear up soon after discharge or discontinuation of the medication. It's not usual to have a long term memory problem following short term opiate therapy. However six days is not a terribly long time.
I am a professional person and used to think my memory loss was from depression (taking this for anxiety but sometimes can be disguised) which can cause some short term memory loss. I thought this since memory loss was never even considered by the pharms. Now today after finding this site, I see it is true what I have always believed. This Med cause short term memory loss!
Drug studies are only 4 to 8 weeks long I doub't there have ever been any long term (more than a year) studies on the long term use of gabapentin.
For any one who is having trouble tapering off of gabapentin a magnesium supplement is very effective in reducing the severity of the withdrawal from gabapentin.
Ambien absolutely can cause memory loss, more commonly short-term issues, but also some people have reported problems with their long term memory as well. The good news is...if other causes have been ruled out, and Ambien seems to be the culprit, the memory issues will resolve most times after the Ambien is safely tapered.

ve been clean from dope and PCP for 10 months now when i was dirty i would smoke 10 jars a day and 5 bags not to mention i was taking triple c,s, molly, coke, perks, zannis, k pins, everything ah during my drug phase which im terribly disgusted abut but when will I start to feel normal again? When will I stop having memory problems? When will my immune system become strong again? And when will these headaches stop?
m having problems with balance and falling, been diagnosed with Trigeminal neuralgia, problems with vision and list goes on. I'm now going to be tested for MS. Os, didn't mention severe memory issues and found a lesion I think 4 years ago and 2 other things I can't remember now. Just wondering how this sounds to MS patients. Oh, having to now use something for balance too.

Its all memory long term and short term. I also loose my train of thought and struggle to finish sentences sometimes as i forget what im saying. I forget what i do with my keys, money, ect but remeber passwords for things. I struggle to remeber my schooling or my childhood. i cant remeber conversations iv had. I have been on anti depresents since i was 16 but its only been this year i have really been having trouble with my memory.
Johns Hopkins researchers who have been at the forefront of this field reviewed the evidence on short-term and long-term mental changes after bypass surgery. They found that short-term confusion, memory loss, and poorer problem solving and information processing are common after bypass surgery, but are usually temporary and reversible. Most people return to their pre-bypass level of function between 3 and 12 weeks after surgery.
I believe it is a setteled issue regarding long term memory loss due to a by-pass. There has been a study and over the next four years, there were no significant differences in memory or other mental functions between the heart patients who had bypass, those who took medications, and those who had off-pump surgery.
At four years, however, all three groups of heart patients scored significantly worse on tests of memory, decision-making, and visuospatial relations than the heart-healthy people.
