Common Questions and Answers about Lyrica and kidney pain

lyrica

Avatar n tn The worst pain ever. 6 months on Nortriptyline, several on alpha lipoic acid, now on Lyrica. Lyrica works! Still numb but pain relief. Questions: Concerned about kidneys and new insurance doesn't want to cover Lyrica. They want me on gabapentin. I've been on Cobra for over 2 years and am really fed up with jumping through hoops while paying up to $2000 per month for cobra, copays, etc. Lyrica works. How hard should I fight? I'm getting tired of the BS.
Avatar n tn My daughter has been on multiple drugs over the last two years during diagnosis and treatment and is currently on Lyrica and Percocet. The Lyrica really seems to help her emotionally and physically but now I am worried about the continued use of drugs to alleviate her pain. She says she would just like to have her kidney removed in the hopes the pain will vanish. I, personally don't want this to be an option. Do you have an opinion or suggestions for me?

1686743 tn?1306005451 and my BUN 22 to 46 All that being said ,,,, My PM decided I should try Pregabalin otherwise know as Lyrica. and I did.. This drug is used to treat fibromyalgia ... and nerve damage but it is only a side effect to what the drug was meant for. Here's what happened. Both feet and left hand swelled as if I had cardiac arrest. From side to side across the lower back hurt like something I haven't felt for a long time. My fear was my kidney's.
Avatar f tn Hi, Did you ever find out what's causing the pain in the upper left side? I have the same thing! My fibro doc said that it may be a shingles or zoster attack. It causes pain in the band area of the body and people who had chicken pox as a child are prone to an attack. He gave me Neurontin and I got better. But, lately, I've been having more pain and beginning to wonder if it's something else. If you find out anything, let me know. Veronica http://www.bellaonline.
Avatar f tn I have been suffering for years with burning pain all over, neck pain, popping of joints, aching, deep muscle pain, migraines, insomnia, repeated kidney infections, bone spures and calcium deposits on spine, GERD, IBS, cysts, itching from a pins and needles feeling that moves from place to place all the time and about a year ago chronic sacraliliac pain and floating or dislocating which creates a "tck" noise and about the same time started having high blood pressure.
Avatar f tn m also experiencing nausea, along with tingling and burning sensations to my toes and fingers. My concern is if this can be diabetes or a kidney related condition or just symptoms resulting from my preexisting conditions?
Avatar f tn i am going through this now. Intermittent sharp pain between left kidney and moving round to the front. Ben tested for infection(none) and kidney stones(negative) no blockages in renal system. Doc says some kind of muscular problem and has given me anti-inflamatory pills. Seems to have very little effect. Often when I urinate the pain goes. Its disturbing to say the least. If anyone has any thoughts - grateful to hear from them.
Avatar f tn However, whilst it was amazing for about three weeks, within days of increasing from 225mg a day to 300mg I lost control of my bladder three times in a week, then started to experience pain and soreness in the tendons of my feet, then my elbows, and two weeks ago (when I stopped talking it) my pinky and ring fingers on one hand have gone almost completely numb.
Avatar f tn Oh, boy, you poor thing. I can't imagine being unconscious for that long. That is truly frightening. What doctor is following you on this? Is it your primary care or a nephrologist? Do you still have to have dialysis? Have they recommended physical therapy for you to help you get walking normally? I think you have a lot of questions to ask your doctor about.
Avatar f tn it hurts so bad when i wear any shoe ,if i do it has to be a sandal.even in the winter i have to wear this kind of shoe.
Avatar m tn Lyrica was a miracle for my nerve pain for 2 1/2 years. I went off it since the pain was gone and started to have serious anxiety problems. I finally connected the dots! The Lyrica was also solving my aniexty attack problem. I went back on it. I never had weight gain or problems with sleepiness. Everyone is different. You might be one of the lucky ones like me.
712802 tn?1274645485 Hi, I take lyrica 225mg 2 x a day. I have been and still am where you are. I have had a few bad days where I was looking at that option. I was able to get help from here which was great. I have not talked to any of my Dr's about this due to problems I already have at work and did not want anything like this to help my work mess with me any more than they already are. I am on alot of different drugs so I can not say that it was the lyrica.
394774 tn?1235070839 You can get addicted to lyrica, it is a controlled substance. but if they work for you and take away the pain and you know you are gonna have to take them the rest of your life, who care.
Avatar f tn Pregabalin (Lyrica) is similar to gabapentin (Neurontin) and may be more effective, but usually kidney stones require opiates -- they can be quite painful. best wishes.
483733 tn?1326798446 I am taking 300 mg of Lyrica a day. I am having heavy swelling in my hands, feet and ankles and doctor put me on Lasix. It is helping a bit but still uncomfortable and pain. I've put a lot of weight on and am also having bad memory problems (can't find my words) and blurry vision. Is there anything that can be done that doesn't require me to get off of Lyrica? it really helps my pain. If I have to get off of it what is the best way to do so?
1340994 tn?1374193977 I take pregabalin (Lyrica), and its cheaper cousin is gabapentin (Neurontin), and they are anti-spasm type drugs, and I found relief from my lower back pain overnight and continue to take it for several years now. Aside from medicine, one good way to relieve sciatica is to do yoga type stretching exercises, but since he has spine problems, it's best for him to ask his doc if maybe some physical therapy could be ordered for him to ease the pain.
Avatar m tn Hi there. I am taking lyrica for general anxiety. I was on 50 mg taken at night together with rivotril. My psychiatrist reduced my dosage of lyrica to 25mg. Apart from general anxiety, I understand it helps with pain and induces sleep. I sleep quite well now, and in the morning and day time, I don't feel too tired. My doctor feels lyrica suits me and I may be on it for a while longer. Does it help with your pain?
Avatar f tn I have used Lyrica (pregabalin) for 3 months so far and it works for my thoracic back pain and neck pain. Lyrica is an anti-convulsant. Before trying it, or one of the other anti-convulsants (eg gabapentin, carbamazepine, etc), get your doc to check your blood pressure, cholesterol, kidney and liver function, weight, blood cell shape and white cell count. That gives you a solid baseline for comparing against later on, ie when on the medication.
Avatar f tn Ive been on lyrica and nuvigil fro fibro pain and fatigue, and just found out I'm pregnant. I'm just wondering if anyone else has taken either one of those while pregnant. I've stopped them for i was on only 50 mg of lyrica and about 100 of nuvigil. but I'm still worried, and i feel like I've been hit by a train once again, the pain is almost unbearable, i know my doc personally, have an appt. with him for the 12th.
Avatar f tn While I was undiagnosed, I was on Neurontin for a couple of months and then tried Lyrica. I do think Lyrica relieved more pain, but it did cause me more side effects and in the end, I was not happy with the balance of relief vs. complications. Lyrica made me feel more dizzy and confused. For example, I would take my dose, and within minutes I wouldn't remember if I had taken it yet or not. That made me uncomfortable.
Avatar n tn I take Lyrica, and I've gained weight, but I have so many other things that could be the cause, I can't really point to the Lyrica. It helps my nerve pain, and that is worth a lot. I like Alex's tips; I'll try them (for the most part, ha ha). I take my highest dose of Lyrica at bedtime, and when I have trouble sleeping, I have a horrible craving for carbohydrates, like wheat thins, rice cakes, etc. Now I wonder if it's related to the Lyrica...
