20790871 tn?1507161421 I recently got my blood tested because I have mono(which has hit me hard), and aside from the mono and white blood cell count (low neutrophils and high lymphocytes-presumably from fighting off the mono), everything was normal. My ferritin and thyroid tests also came back normal. I have a regular period and healthy diet. I've tried researching Lexapro and Wellbutrin side effects, but didn't find much on hair loss associated with these medications. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Avatar f tn What happens is the body will try to retain its’ protein, and carbohydrate ‘stores’ within the body and you may not able to lose weight. The body does not know the difference if it is ‘starving’ due to self-infliction (skip meals or very low calorie intake) or environment factors (no food to eat). Hoped this helped you.
Avatar f tn Hello, Thinning of hair is observed when taking some medications. You need to pay attention to your diet. Your hair needs vitamins and minerals to grow that it can only get from the bloodstream. So if you want to speed up your hair growth and thickness you should limit the intake of fat and salts. Selenium, zinc and magnesium are some of the minerals that your hair needs and also amino acids and vitamin E will help in growing hairs.
Avatar n tn Oh, okay. That's different than vitamin deficiency. Here's information on androgenic alopecia https://www.webmd.com/skin-problems-and-treatments/hair-loss/hair-loss-types#1. Both men and women get it and in men, it's called male pattern hair loss. I guess you can start the supplements if your doctor says okay for good measure. But, it probably won't help too much if vitamins aren't the issue. Alopecia is harder to treat.
Avatar m tn A Vicious Cycle There are two main consequences of low stomach acid: 1.You become protein malnourished. When your stomach acid is low, you are not able to digest protein. ◦Improper digestion of protein creates toxins in your intestines that can set the stage for illness and disease. ◦Improper digestion of protein also creates acidic blood, since protein is by nature acidic. 2.You become mineral deficient.
Avatar n tn Hello, Your ferritin levels are low and this can cause hair loss. Try taking some iron supplements for some days and also eat a diet rich in iron. If the symptoms persist then please consult a dermatologist and get the possibility of telogen effluvium ruled out. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your dermatologist.
Avatar n tn Then, thyroid and parathyroid gland problems should be looked at. All these can cause darkening of skin, hair loss and slow hair growth and eye problems. It can indirectly affect liver function too. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
Avatar m tn Heart Healthy diet which is a moderate fat diet and a moderate fat diet means = use polyunsaturated (omega 3, corn oil, nuts, etc) fats and monounsaturated (olive oil, canola oil, peanut oil, etc) fats, no saturated fats (high fat snack foods, butter, fat spreads) and no trans fats.
Avatar m tn This happened to my 16 year old Terrier mix, he lost his muscles mass due to a diet of low in protein. His vet prescribed a low protein dog food to protect his kidneys. This was the worst thing she could have done. I've since learned that his kidneys were not that bad for his age, and these low protein diets do nothing to protect the kidneys or cure kidney disease in dogs. He lost so much weight and lost his hair. He became very weak, and lethergic.
Avatar n tn Hi, Most people normally shed 50 to 100 hairs a day and this amount of hair loss should not cause noticeable thinning of the scalp hair. Hair thinning and loss could be due to increased rate of shedding compared to the rate of regrowth. This could be due to: hormonal changes, poor nutrition, diseases, certain medications, infections and stress.
Avatar f tn My question is I have a very healthy diet, had my thyroid tested which is normal, however I lose lots of hair on my head, I do have thick hair, I was told Silica was good for hair and nails, has anyone heard of Diatomaceous Earth powder, (it's Fossil Flour) you take up to one tablespoon per day, mix it in water, for humans and animals, can you tell me if it is safe to take a 1 teaspoon per day of this natural form of silica for adults.
256553 tn?1258883918 and leaving your body in fatigue, dehydration (which gives the illusion of weight loss), energy loss, and excessive protein breakdown with a buildup of ketones in the body. Protein is NOT used for energy it is the building blocks of the body ie. nails, hair, muscles, tissues etc. If there is a lack of carbs, the body uses protein which prevents the proteins from doing its job, building and repairing tissues.
Avatar f tn Research has shown that a large proportion of women reporting hair loss had low ferritin levels, compared with the levels generally found in women without hair loss, and interestingly in men. The main reason for this difference is due to the loss of blood during menstruation, which is just enough to cause a gradual depletion of iron stores, particularly in women who eat little or no red meat.
Avatar n tn Insomnia, stress and anxiety along with poor diet and excess of caffeine too can be the cause. Yes, increased bilirubin can cause hair loss. This happens mainly in hereditary hemochromatosis which is a genetic condition in which excess iron is absorbed from the gut and stored in various parts of the body. I think you should discuss these possibilities with your doctor. Take care!
Avatar n tn Keep up with a balanced diet and listen to your body - brittle nails, droopy hair may mean you need more protein and oils. Try to add some eggs, yogurt, nuts, etc to what you're already eating. It's hard to know if you're really physically healthy because it can take a while for your body to recover. If you have access to a school nurse or dr, perhaps you should meet with them to see if they can give you any pointers.

Avatar m tn Hello, What your son seems to be having is alopecia aereta of scalp and eyebrows. It is an autoimmune disease characterized by unpredictable, nonscarring hair loss of the eyelashes and eyebrows. In such cases, to promote growth of eyebrows, just eat a healthy protein rich diet and take some multivitamin supplements for some days. The most important nutrients are biotin, silica, magnesium, sulfur, zinc, and vitamin B6.
Avatar n tn The most likely elements missing with hair would be silica and protein, but that would usually show by losing hair, not it becoming limp and greasy. You can try buying a hair and skin supplement -- it's a multivitamin for hair and skin. Ultra Hair by Nature's Plus is a good one. You also might not be getting the proper amount of fat in your diet. You can compensate for that by taking flax seed oil.
Avatar n tn T.effluvium it is and you should recover in about 3months,but make sure you receive iron and protein suppliment in diet.
