Avatar f tn I am not an expert on the connection between a lumbar puncture and Chiari, but I have read somewhere that a lumbar puncture can make a Chiari herniation worse. Something about drawing out that spinal fluid and the pressure possibly making the herniation and symptoms worse. I know this summer I had a lumber puncture to check the pressure. My neurologist thought I had something called pseudo tumor cerebri. My pressure ended up being normal, but I had a terrible spinal headache from a leak!

Avatar n tn I have been feeling this slight pain in my back, then it dawned on me that this pain is where the lumbar puncture was done. It is tender to the touch and i still do feel ill, but i havn't mentioned this to a doctor yet.
Avatar f tn Well, I called the surgeon and told him about my symptoms three weeks post op. He wants me to drive to Pittsburgh for a Cat Scan and a lumbar puncture. He says that it is common, especially in young women to develop this pressure after the surgery. So I am headed to Pittsburgh. Please pray for me. I will keep everyone updated.
Avatar f tn I have a question about excluding Ms definitively with lumbar puncture. As some of you know from my recent reports that i had a lumbar puncture done and the results for O bands was negative. My first neuro whom i do not have much faith in organised Mri of brain and lumbar puncture plus various blood tests. He wrote some confusing stuff on his letter regarding my Mri, saying Mri shows scattered T2 hyperintensities in both cerebral hemispheres.
Avatar n tn I had a lumbar puncture done under fluro near the end of september and since then have been dealing almost daily with extremely pain that is causing me to have difficulty finding a comfortable position to be in.
Avatar f tn Ok I would like some advice. I got a lumbar puncture on Monday. They had to do it twice because they couldn't get fluid from the first site. I had some back pain but then Tuesday morning it started with the headache. I went to the ER yesterday and they gave me fluids and had me drink a lg coffee. They discussed a blood patch but the anesthesiologist couldn't do it for a few hrs and we were getting a bad storm.

758371 tn?1234198413 s so important for you to get out and mingle with other mothers and givey our child a chance to play with peers. The safety issue is a concern - can you perhaps hire a neighborhood teenager to act as a mother's helper and go with you? I'm always bumping into things or about to fall over- fortunately I haven't done it publicly yet! I'm glad to hear nothing was injured other than your pride. Hopefully some moms with young children will have tips for you.
808815 tn?1254301881 hi im going for a lumbar puncture next week can i ask you all how long it took to get results from this i was told by a friend she got her results 2 months after lumbar puncture surely it doesnt take that long?
Avatar f tn I had my lumbar puncture on Friday. I had to be punctured three times to get enough fluid out for the tests. The doctor said he only got 3 cc's out of the first puncture and it stopped flowing. On the second puncture the numbing medicine wore off and I felt the needle going in. Not sure if that one produced any fluid. The third puncture, lower than the first two, produced the rest of the fluid needed for the tests.

Avatar f tn Yes... They can use the fluid to test and detect Multiple Sclerosis, Meningitis, and other neurological diseases. It's an invasive, and usually uncomfortable test, but the best way to get some diagnoses made.
Avatar n tn I am scheduled for a lumbar puncture and was very suprised that the neuro dept scheduled it for 3pm on a Friday. I thought patients had to lay flat for a certain number of hours after this procedure. The scheduling dept said "Everyone is different if you feel fine you can leave right away if not you can lay down for a while". I've read you are to lay flat to prevent a spinal headache. Please let me know if you are still supposed to lay flat after this procedure.
Avatar f tn I have to repeat my lumbar puncture next week. I have read O bands should not present is this true?
Avatar n tn I had a lumbar puncture five and a half weeks ago, to diagnose meningitis. Before I had the lumbar puncture, I had very bad lower back pain, stiff neck and severe headache. After the lumbar puncture was done, I felt complete relief - no back, neck or head pain - it was like a huge weight had been lifted and all the pressure was gone. I felt the best I'd felt in months!!! However, the next day, the head and neck pain were back, but no pain in my lower back?
464237 tn?1315670793 I don't know why but lumbar puncture is terrifying to me. I may need the test and I don't know how I can go through with it because I am so scared. I'm scared of the pain and the possibility of a spinal leak and complications. If you have went through this test please tell me if it is really horrible. Thanks. I know I'm a baby but I can't help it.
Avatar n tn My question is , how can I help my sons pain and direct his Doctors on the right path to ease his pain and heal him , and could the puncture be the cause of his bulging disc. Please help me , im writing this from the pediatrics floor and cant stand to see my son in pain a min longer . We have an Mri scheduled in the morning for further diagnosis.
326184 tn?1348809108 Any input would be wonderful because I have nothing but fear today and I read some info on the lumbar puncture and I probably shouldnt have because those folks scared me to death with their bad experiences. Thank you for reading. Hugs to all and I hope your all well.
Avatar m tn Hi, Headache with nausea is the most common complication of Lumbar puncture. It often responds well to analgesics and fluid infusion and can often be prevented by strict maintenance of a supine posture or lying down flat on back for two hours after the successful puncture. You may go through the literature on lumbar puncture procedure or consult a neurologist to confirm this. Hope this helps you. Take care and regards!
