The valve is meant to allow blood to flow only one way -- that is, outward from the heart -- and if a valve is regurgitating, then there is a degree of backward blood flow. In other words, the valve is leaking. Again, mild is mild. Not a lot of blood is flowing the wrong way, but some is -- enough that the doctors can see it on an echocardiogram. Another word that you may hear, that means the same thing as regurgitation, is incompetence.

I had an ablation last week and am doing well, but am very beat up (low energy, black and blue, sore throat from TEE and polka dot bruises from Lovenox). My question is how long a time period is it usual to be on Lovenox? My doctor has said a full month. From my research, other than pregnant women, for all other conditions it says 2 weeks or less. I can't take coumadin due to a severe reaction to it.
my first pregnancy with this dr. and taking Lovenox for the past 15 days.....Had second sonogram yesterday and saw fetal pole, yolk sac and heartbeat!!! I was so excited, I was on cloud nine all day...until two hours ago when I heard my latest #'s.....already spoke to dr. he said not to worry and go for blood test Mon.
He did tell me originally that the minute I think I;m pregnant I should start the Lovenox. I started it when my levels were only42!!! Good luck to you.
With ERSD aside, the information you have provided indicates there is some general heart wall movement impairment (hypokinesis) and the heart pumping chamber is enlarged and that can explain reduced systole function (pumping ability).
Diastolic dysfunction can be due to enlarged heart walls, and that condition reduces the heart's filling capacity and could be related to heart muscle disease. Alcholol can damage heart muscle and that may be the underlying cause of the heart problems.
There are rare connective tissue abnormalities where the tissue that makes up the blood vessels is weak, and this could potentially be an issue both for the eyes and the heart valves and blood vessels. Or there could have been a clot or some other material that blocked a blood vessel in the eye and led to hemorrhage.

I am a 27 year old female, in very good physical condition and was just told by my PCP that I have 2 heart valves that are "slightly" leaky. The cardiologist called these leaks "not impressive". This conclusion was reached after I had an echocardiogram. The reason I initially saw my PCP was for what felt like palpatations in my chest and slight chest discomfort. He heard a murmur so I was sent for the echo.
I went to a cardio anyways. He did a 24 hr. heart holter and it come back ok. I asked him about the leaky heart valves and he looked at me and said "Don't worry you'll outlive those leaky valves." So coming from a heart specialist i felt much more relieved!!!
They did tell me that before surgerys or getting your teeth cleaned or any dental work done that you'll need to be put on antibiotics.
How concerned should I be about the valves (had an echo 3 years ago and no valve problem at that time) and how do I overcome the pain in the chest, neck and palpatations without always thinking there is an upcoming heart problem. Heart cath revealed "non critical heart condition", Holter monitor OK, tachycardia but normal rythmn, some premature beats...
Was little pink the first time. This is my first pregnancy, had to use Clomid to help get pregnant and I am on lovenox shots to do a factor 5 leiden mutation. Called my doctor and she said not to worry unless it becomes heavy bleeding with cramping. I'm still scared. We having been trying for a baby for so long. Anyone else go through this?
I have 2 leaky valves and am not sure which ones. When I exercise my heart rate jumps all the way to the upper 190's. I am waiting on the results of my holter monitor, and on the results of my echo. What would thee advice be on exercise until I have a complete diagnosis as well as the severity of the leaky valves.
There are actually four valves in the heart, and the two I mentioned are the ones that in the vast majority of cases need repair. Mitral valve issues are frequently the result of a birth defect, though both valve issues can be a result of wear and tear or a poorly managed diet. So long as the most severely damaged valves could be worked on, you have nothing to worry about. Stay positive and keep on your dad's case about his diet and exercise.
