lialda and sun exposure

I started on Lialda in February 2009....gained 10-15 pounds within 3 weeks. I have always been thin, I didn't even gain weight when I was on steroids! I have been working out and watching what I eat, but I can't seem to shed the pounds I gained. I even had a flare-up this winter (I usually drop 10-20 pounds during a flare) and didn't lose a single pound. I can't find any information about Lialda and weight gain.

Sigh...I tried Lialda for a month...the headaches were insane! My doc switched me to Asacol...my body wouldn't absorb them. So, I'm on my third med...Apriso...$248 for a one month supply! I don't see any real difference with anything so far...

I have been on Lialda for almost a year and recently noticed hair loss. Since I am also bruising very easily, it could be more related to an underlying anemia, not necessarily the Lialda itself.

Last November, I had another flare that lasted 4 months (I never lost a pound even though I was eating very little). The doctor quadrupled my dose of Lialda, and again more weight gain around my stomach and nowhere else. This is very frustrating. I have always been a very thin person and do not like looking like I am pregnant when I am not! Has anyone else had this issue with Lialda. How about knee pain? Itching? Any help is greatly appreciated.

I am currently taking lialda 2 capsules twice a day. I basically stopped taking the lialda because it made me feel worse than I already was. My question is is there a reason why the lialda makes me have pain in my gut. Are there any other new meds out there of UC? Are there any new surgeries to cure UC?

Hi, Are you talking about a malignant nodule in the lung? The exposure from the sun will place you at risk for cancers of the skin. While there are cancers of the skin that would have a tendency to metastasize the lung (melanoma), these would usually have a preliminary finding in the skin.

I was on tx. during the katrina nightmare, heat and sun exposure gave me the worst rash and caused a tremendous amount of itching. Stay out of the sun and heat while on tx.

I started taking Lialda in August, 2008, and took it (3-1g tabs once per day) for 5 months before I got better. However, I am not sure whether to credit the Lialda or the Flora-Q I began taking after three months into my treatment. I have lymphocytic colitis so this may not pertain directly to your diagnosis, but I hope it helps.

I am very active outdoors and would hate to have to stay out of the sun. I use sun screens and still I get this condition.

actually sun is very beneficial to both you and baby, you need around 20 min of exposure to the sun everyday on your arms and legs, a little more if your dark skinned, your body gets its vitamin D from being exposed to the sun, otherwise you risk having vit D deficiency which isnt good, and you end up by having to take suppliments, just be sure that you dont go out in the hottest part of the day and if you do put on sunscreen :)

so i have been diabetic for 1 1/2 years and was wonder about the sun? i have always been told to stay out of the sun that it can cause really bad health promblems for diabetics atleast thats whats my dad heard should i belive him or can i get that nice golden tan like every other american teen?

hi i am 27 years old female with weatish to dark complexion i live in southeren part of india( Asia) i am very sensitive to sun i develop redish and very itchy rash with in no time to sun exposure even in mild winter sun.. i scratched the rash and the condition worsened .. i seeked medical help nothing really helped... please help me with this ...

It is possible that you have/had sun poisioning. Any antibiotics will add to the harsh exposure of the sun. That is why they tell you to try to avoid the sun if you can or use a high level of sunscreen if you are out in the sun. If you are not feeling better soon, you should see your doctor. Please be careful while in the sun while on these medications. It can cause some major symptoms not to mention the higher risk of sun burn. Hope you feel better soon.

s for the last 5yrs and am on 5mg of Prednisone/day as well just being switched to Lialda 2.4gms/day (from Pentasa 4gms/day) one month ago. I was started on Famvir today-500mg tid. I am leaving for Hawaii on Wednesday and am scheduled to swim with the dolphins on Thursday. I have completed my first full day's dose of medicine and will continue until the prescription is completed. I am then staying on a maintenance dose of 250mg/day until I can get the vaccine in 6mos at age 60.

We are heading to Florida in two days and will be out in the sun alot. I wear sunscreen but am just curious if sun exposure will affect my scar. It seems like I read somewhere on there that it would by making it darker or taking it longer to heal? Please let me know what you guys know about this. I don't want to do anything that will extend the time it takes my scar to heal or something that makes it heal darker. Thanks guys!

Last year I believe I developed a sun allergy, after prolonged exposure to the sun I would get itchy red bumps in the evening and the next day they would be gone. As of this year I have been in the sun and have experience nothing. I was wonder if I spent some time in a tanning bed would I break out in the red bumps like the sun exposure? Sun exposure not only discolors scars, but it can also cause the tissue to thicken. Both of these effects make a scar more conspicuous and more difficult to treat in the future.
