Common Questions and Answers about Levoxyl and calcium

synthroid

Avatar f tn i had a total thyroidectomy almost 3 months ago and have been experiencing increase numbness and tingling on both hands and lately both feet. My calcium level has been normal never low, i am taking calcium 600mg with 400 IU vit D once a day, my endo has increased it to 3x/day awaiting vit d 25-hydroxy result, ....is this related to my vit. d ?...i've read that u can have a normal calcium level but if your vit. d is defficient that can cause the numbenss and tingling......
Avatar n tn m hoping the increased dosage of Levoxyl will stop my hair loss. I have been taking 1200 mg of calcium vitamins and a multivitamin and evening primrose oil vitamins(2000 mg) (which I heard would help hair loss). Is there anything I should be doing to help prevent continued hair loss? Any suggestions would very much appreciated.
1129774 tn?1279831762 30 and eat breakfast at 7:00. I talked to the pharmacist and she said I can take the cytomel whenever. With breakfast I take all my vitamins Multi, calicum, mag,. probiotic, vit. d, and cranberry. Can I take both at 5:30 in the morning? Or should I wait until after breakfast. I decided to only start with one a day and see how I do. I am afraid of getting to much. Thanks.
Avatar n tn I had heard that Levoxyl would be harder to swallow because it dissolves quicker. I find it just the opposite. It is harder than Synthroid, which would dissolve in my mouth before I could swallow it. I once cut a Levoxyl when I was upping to the next dose and the thing was very hard to cut with a pen knife. I guess I am the odd one out here. My viatmins are harder to swallow due to their size. Levoxyl is not time release.
Avatar f tn As per my information I can not drink milk along with levoxyl and have lost the habit of drinking it since 4-5 yrs back when i was tested with hypothyroid. I also was tested deficient in Vit D 3-4 weeks back( I was 3 months pregnant then) and since then I am taking tums 750mg along with Vit D3 400iu chewable supplements 5-6 times/week. I still get leg/calf muscle cramps at night and while walking sometime. I am very concerned about the developing baby and the importance of milk in my diet.
451191 tn?1264432890 I am also taking calcium and Vit D (Calcitriol) along with levoxyl. Had TT in January and have been on calcium 3x a day and Calcitriol 2x a day - It was difficult finding a good time to get all the meds in b/c of that whole 4 hour window you're supposed to have in between so I started taking Levoxyl at night right before bed - so far it seems to be fine but I can't wait to see the day that I don't have to take the extra pills.
Avatar n tn t sleep well at night. My Hg has dropped into the 9.2-9.9 level. I am also on calcium supplements and calcitriol for hypoparathyroidism. My calcium has been stable, low normal, for many years. Now, it is out of control, very high which required hospitalization. My creatine increased to 3.0 and is now down to 1.9. I have heart failure which is under control but take diuretics, coreg and lisinopril, amiodarone. I am not sure what to make of the thyroid and calcium issues.
Avatar n tn I feel "fine", well...dry skin, tired (but I have a 2 year old), dry hair, can never keep weight down, etc. But I'm also currently taking Vit D. and Calcium b/c of low calcium levels from surgery so it's hard to tell what is what right now. I just can't help but think that when a gland is removed it does need to be made up for even if the medical community doesn't think certain hormones were "necessary", such as the T1, T2, etc. Know what I mean?
Avatar f tn m in the process of changing pharmacies and the new pharmacy has no warnings on the bottle, but did have the warning about the calcium and iron in the printed insert that came with the prescription. Neither mentioned sunlight or sunlamps.
Avatar f tn Calcium sulfate dihydrate, croscarmellose sodium, magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose, and sodium bicarbonate. The dyes vary according to dosage. I didn't do well on Synthroid, but have taken Levoxyl for several years and do very well on it. The same has been true of many others on the forum.
299033 tn?1393301417 I take 100 mcg Levoxyl in the AM with 5 mcg T3, then I take 5 mcg T3 with lunch. Calcium, magnesium, selenium and other supplements get taken with dinner and at bedtime.
4274823 tn?1388529098 I see people posting info about Tirosint being costly, but not having fillers and dye. Is it the same case with Levoxyl? I would have to pay for any prescription drugs myself so price is a consideration.
Avatar f tn After three days of not taking meds, I hard the low voice and stiff all over. I am now back on 112 levoxyl and my face is broke out and my knee caps are killing me. Should I have my calcium checked and also should I fast for my bloodwork?
398079 tn?1235171132 I am currently taking 100mcg of Synthroid(name brand) and 1/2 of 25mcg Cytomel. I did take the levoxyl and couldn't even move the muscle pains were so bad. I currently go for blood work every 4 weeks since last Aug. I did take Synthroid 112mcg but I had constant headaches. The only time I had normal blood work was when I took 25mcg Cytomel the month before my RAI. The doctor told me that were alot more than he thought I should have on the scan after the RAI.
Avatar f tn I dug around a bit and found some more test results which my endo ordered, here we go: T4 - .62 (normal range 0.61-1.12 ng/dL) TRANSGLUTAMINASE AB (IGA) - normal Parathyroid Intact - 41 (normal range 12-65 pg/mL) Calcium - 9.3 (normal 8.5-10.4 mg/dL) MAGNESIUM SER 2.4 (normal range 1.5-2.5 mg/dL ) PHOSPHORUS SER 3.4 (normal range 2.5-4.5 mg/dL ) I do not see any results for T3. Should I make them test mine? Is that important?
Avatar f tn Should also mention that I have very low blood calcium and take 2,000 mg daily of calcium which do not totally take away tingling.
Avatar f tn Based on my blood test result my doctor made a derision regarding my thyroid gland, and Levoxyl 0,05 mg was prescribed, My questions: 1. Which blood test parameters are telling that I have to start/stop taking Levoxyl? 2. Can I replace Levoxyl with natural products (some diet, using the iodized salt, etc.) ? Many thanks!
491352 tn?1258807095 I had a terrible time with Synthroid. I switched post TT, after about 3 months on Levothyroxine and Cytomel combo. I almost immediately puffed up like a marshmellow and had severe joint/arthritis pain. I dubbed myself "Princess Bloat-a-lot"... I've since switched to Levoxyl and added the Cytomel back in, and the issues seem to be dissipating. I also have calcium, vit D issues. I'm working on that as well with 50,000 IU's per week.
Avatar f tn ve been on generic, Synthroid and Levoxyl at one time or another, and I found absolutely no difference among them. However, my endo is one who doesn't like generic. He put me on Levoxyl. You have to chose your battles, I guess, so I'm keeping him happy. Interestingly enough, after switching to Levoxyl from generic (same dose), my labs actually took a nose dive.
Avatar n tn Your body is slowing down because thyroid hormone regulates the speed at which your body works. You will probably notice that you feel cold easily and it will take a while to warm up and you will have "mental fog.
87651 tn?1259602403 I have been onthe meds for 10 days now and for the last few days pressure headache and foggy feeling. I dont know if its the bariatric pressue outside either. Its been rainy and cold here in Chicago.... I have felt like this befoe all this mess so not sure! And my teeth hurt like he//!!!!!! Ache I should say!
Avatar f tn i bruise like a summer peach and my moods arent very good, im always either sad angry or depressed, and for no good reason either. i didnt take the levoxyl today and i didnt feel any different than when i do take it... should i continue to take it despite the fact that i cant tell a difference?
Avatar f tn m just adjusting to the thyroid juice and to hang in there. Continue with the same dosage of levoxyl. This is after taking the levoxyl from the end of June until the second week of October. She sent me to have a scan of my thyroid because she said it was enlarged and for more blood work. Had that done on 10/13/08. Went to the family doc on 10/9/08 and my blood pressure wasn't coming down (still at about 140/85) so he changes the med to lysinop HCTZ 20/25.
Avatar n tn I was taking Levoxyl for hypo-thyroidism and it was automatically changed to the generic form, L-Thyroxine. After taking the Thyroxine I noticed a terrible burning in the throat and indigestion which I never had with the Levoxyl. So I am requesting to be changed back to the Levoxyl. I think some of these medications have different ingredients. I never had this happen with the Levoxyl. I hope this helps anyone who has been put on the generic form of medication.
