Common Questions and Answers about Levothyroxine used for

synthroid

Avatar f tn ve been on that for years since neither generic Levothyroxine and Synthroid worked for me. Another good one is Tirosint, which is a gelcap and contains only glycerine, water, Levothyroxine and gelatin. Tirosint tends to be the most expensive, but the manufacturer has programs for those who qualify. Is TSH the only thyroid related blood test that's being performed regularly? What about Free T4 and Free T3? Those are the actual thyroid hormones.
168348 tn?1379357075 Levothyroxine is the generic name for Levothyroxine. :-) Levothroid, Levoxyl, Unithroid, Synthroid, Euthyrox, Tirosint, are all name brand drugs that use levothyroxine as the active ingredient. I've heard of Levo-T, but I'm not sure what that falls under. I'm sure this is only a partial list.
Avatar f tn I have been hypo for 20 years and on synthroid and now levothyroxine. I wanted to try the Armour brand because I read so much good about it and had lingering hypo symptoms. I switched doctors to someone who used this and did a full thyroid panel. My TSH was.9, Free T4 1.5, Free T3 2.8, Thyroid peroxidase 61.1, Anti-thyroglobulin 2.1. She diagnosed me with Hashimoto's for the first time. She put me on 60 mg Amour to start and sent me home.
Avatar f tn FT3 and FT4 are much more important than TSH, especially once on meds. The target for FT4 is about 50% of range. Yours is at 24%. Target for FT3 is 50+% of range, and yours is 16%. So, you are still hypo. It's not unusual for symptoms to worsen a bit or new ones to appear on starting meds. That's partly due to the fact that you are unlikely on a therapeutic dose yet. It looks like you need an increase. How much are you taking now? You had no symptoms prior to meds?
9766232 tn?1405758582 Please remember that we are not doctors and are not allowed to tell you what dosages of medications to take. What are the reference ranges for the T3 and T4? Reference ranges vary lab to lab and have to come from your own lab report. Are they Free T3 and Free T4 or are the Total T3 and Total T4? Free and Total tests aren't the same. If at all possible, you should be having the free tests, not the totals, which are considered obsolete and of little value.
Avatar n tn Yes, you can try there if nobody has ideas for you here .. may be technical for us here on patient to patient community.
497348 tn?1283436066 Yeah I am taking levothyroxine and celexa... I was just once on levothyroxine and it really messed with me just because I am hypothyroid and you need to take that medication. So your body is not used to it so in a sense you are going hyperthyroid right now because you were so used to running low... So yeah... how do you feel right now?
Avatar n tn Ursodiol can be used to dissolve gallstones or it can be used to treat primary cirrhosis of the liver. For which of these is your mother using it? I also found that CBD can be metabolized by the liver even if it's not swallowed/digested, so if herliver isn't working properly to begin with, adding something else to her regimen could put an even greater load on it. This makes it even more important that you discuss its use with your mother's doctor.
Avatar m tn I have been taking Levothyroxine for 3 years. At that point I started having diarrhea. My doctor said that diarrhea was not a side effect of this medicine, and that I must be gluten intolerant or lactose intolerant. So for years I've been changing my diet, with no steady results. Whatever I ate, or did not eat, I still had diarrhea. So as a last resort, I stopped taking levothyroxine three days ago. I feel great !! I have so much energy and guess what? NO diarrhea !!!
Avatar m tn He had been taking 150mg of Levothyroxine for his thyroid and then prescribed sertraline for his anxiety and chest pains. A month after taking the two, he began to suffer from severe panic attacks and then manic and psychotic episodes. He ended up being sectioned to hospital for 3 weeks. The diagnosis was that he had a predisposition to bipolar disorder.. I am strongly convinced that the interaction of the medication prescribed by the doctor.
Avatar f tn To reduce the risk of an error, prescribers should print all orders for Lanoxin and levothyroxine and include the purpose for each drug on all prescriptions. Both the mg dose and the mcg conversion should be listed in all levothyroxine orders and on product labels, such as "levothyroxine 100 mcg (0.1 mg)" or "Synthroid 0.1 mg (100 mcg).
Avatar n tn My main concern is I am due for my total body scans soon and need to starve for six weeks or so for my levothyroxine dose and at the same time, I am currently preparing for my medical licensure exams. Am I to postpone my scans after the boards? What could you suggest? Your opinion would be deeply appreciated. More power and many thanks!
Avatar n tn My Doctor ,mistakenly, changed me from levothyroxine to synthroid, same dosage. After taking it for 3 days,I have been itching really bad. Is there a connection between my itching and the change in medicine ? This discussion is related to <a href='http://www.medhelp.org/posts/show/263782'>Synthroid versus generic levothyroxine (I have Hashimoto's)</a>.

5054005 tn?1362922551 The treatment for hypothyroidism is to take thyroid hormones to increase the metabolic rate. Levothyroxine (also called L-thyroxine or T4) is a synthetic form of the thyroid hormone thyroxine and is used to treat hypothyroidism.
Avatar m tn 60 years old, Female, 5 ft height, 81 lb weight. I am giving the complete history below but this is the issue in nutshell "Is Levothyroxine right medication for high cholesterol, when the thyroid results (serum T3, T4, TSH) are normal ? Avatar f tn My headaches that had improved are now returning quite severely after being on the new 50mcg levothyroxine pills with my normal 25mcg ones for 4/5 weeks. Is it possible to react towards different brands of the same thing?
Avatar m tn I want to know could be their any problem if a person who is using thyroxine sodium for treatment change to other one or from levothyroxine to thyroxine is changed, Could both of them any significant role in replacement. It may alter treatment process.
Avatar m tn Is it standard procedure to use Synthroid on normal TSH, + or - hyper/hypo levels. What is considered normal ranges for prescribing synthroid for an enlarged thyroid.
393419 tn?1228447393 For the 1st hour or so after I take my levothyroxine (synthroid) .175mcg, I get a shaky feeling, as time goes on, it dissipates. . .is this "relatively" normal, or is it something that I should mention to my doctor. I have a list of questions to ask him, but I'm loathe to ask too many silly ones of out of fear of being labeled a difficult or crazy patient. (i like & trust my doctor, but i fear that i'm one nutty question away from the edge.) thanks all!
Avatar m tn Calcium supplements and calcium-fortified juice have been scientifically demonstrated to affect the absorption of levothyroxine, a drug used to treat hypothyroidism, an underactive thyroid. Given this known interaction, practitioners typically recommend taking levothyroxine and calcium at least three to four hours apart. Milk, however, had not been studied in depth until this research. According to the research abstract, cow’s milk contains approximately 450 mg of calcium per 12 oz. serving.
Avatar f tn I am concerned because I was prescribed Levothyroxine for Hyperthyroidism. Is this the correct medication for me?
Avatar f tn I have been on Levothyroxine for over a year. My latest results show that I am subclinically hypothyroid and I had my last thyroid function test done this week along with ferritin. I am on 75mcg Levothyroxine as well as ferrous sulphate. Last few results: July - TSH: 3.5 (0.2-4.2) - 50mcg Levothyroxine September - TSH: 0.08 (0.2-4.2), FT3: 6.5 (3.9-6.7), FT4: 21.4 (12-22), TPOab: 188 (<34), TGab: 109.
Avatar f tn If by "conventional treatment" you are referring to levothyroxine, I don't think you have much to fear. It doesn't have side effects the way most other drugs do since it's a synthetic version of a hormone your body should already be making (but isn't making enough of if you have thyroid disease). You might have "side effects" if you take too much, but typically people are started on a low dose which is gradually increased.
