Levothyroxine food

Common Questions and Answers about Levothyroxine food

synthroid

Dinosaur Thank you for your question, Yes, it is recommended you take it in the morning on an empty stomach, at least 30 minutes before food. Taking levothyroxine with food may cause reduced bioavailability and may lower drug levels leading to signs or symptoms of hypothyroidism. In addition, cottonseed meal, walnuts, and dietary fiber may decrease absorption of levothyroxine from the GI tract.
Avatar f tn I posted on 6/17/2015 regarding my concerns over having had one episode of AFib and being concerned with the levothyroxine causing another episode. The only TSH info I had at that time was that my level was 5.6. This was taken on 5/7/2015. I just received my lab results in the mail for blood work done on 6/11/2015. She ordered at Free T3 and T4 screening on this one. In my last post you requested the results. There was no ferritin tested and my vitamin D is ok.
393419 tn?1228447393 For the 1st hour or so after I take my levothyroxine (synthroid) .175mcg, I get a shaky feeling, as time goes on, it dissipates. . .is this "relatively" normal, or is it something that I should mention to my doctor. I have a list of questions to ask him, but I'm loathe to ask too many silly ones of out of fear of being labeled a difficult or crazy patient. (i like & trust my doctor, but i fear that i'm one nutty question away from the edge.) thanks all!
Avatar m tn He was started on a 50mg dose of levothyroxine . The difference of his over all health was amazing he began to feel hungry again his breathing improved. And he was becoming more active. After about 4_6 weeks he had another repeated blood test done to check his levels and surprisingly the doctor said that his thyroid still was not functioning properly and his dose of levothyroxine was increased to 100mg. This dose made him extremely sick. Bloated . Full of trapped air. Tired and constipated.
7991152 tn?1396061810 S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved the use of generic levothyroxine made by a number of different pharmaceutical companies. The various brand name and generic tablets of levothyroxine may differ in how much levothyroxine they contain; how much of the levothyroxine is absorbed into your body; and, how much levothyroxine circulates in your body.
Avatar n tn m sure others may disagree with me, but I drink milk/have it with my cereal for breakfast whenever I want; same goes for other food items that contain calcium. You aren't going to be getting several hundred mg, like you would taking a supplement. I've never noticed that it had any adverse effect, but keep in mind that we are all different and what works for me, may not work for you.
Avatar m tn *Take your levothyroxine first thing in the morning, and wait an hour before eating. Taking food at the same time can slow or impair absorption of levothyroxine. *Wait an hour after taking your levothyroxine before drinking coffee, including decaffeinated coffee. Coffee has the ability to impair absorption of levothyroxine.
Avatar f tn can i take my levothyroxine sublingually .
3210078 tn?1345661059 I am Hypothyroid i was diagnosed with this a year and a half ago and they still havnt regulated my thyroid level with Levothyroxine so i switched to these pills thet my dad bought for my at a health food store named Raw Thyroid by Natural Souces Co. Has anybody tried these?...They seem to be working for me and i only taken them for 3 days..
Avatar n tn Does anyone take Levothyroxine and if so, what do you think of it? I have heard different things. The doctor just got me started on meds and this is what he wrote. just checking on others thoughts.
Avatar f tn I used to take after eating but my doctor told me to take it alone with no food first. I either slowly began to reject it or it got to high dosewise for me. I started getting every sign of hyperthyroidism. The chest pains, heat intolerance, breathlessness and diarrhea were the worst of them. I went to the ER thinking I was having a heart attack. My doctor told me to lay off the Levothyroxine for about a month to see where we are.
Avatar m tn Acella's NP thyroid can be absorbed sublingually (under the tongue) which is an option. I've read Armour and Naturoid both have too much cellulose due to reformulation which binds the desiccated thyroid so it is mentioned you need to chew them or crush them first. You can mix it with honey or syrup. You may need to increase stomach acid with betaine HCI (hydrochloric acid) with pepsin supplements for better absorption. Vitamin C also helps with absorption which i found interesting.
Avatar f tn Hi - my 9-year-old collie was diagnosed last month as hypothyroid, and the vet prescribed levothyroxine sodium, 600 mcg once a day with food. He has developed diarrhea and last night couldn't keep even chicken and rice down, vomiting it up in the night. He is hungry and eats, but it runs through him. Should i stop or reduce the levothyroxine? Thank you so much for any ideas. BTW, the diagnosis was clear with his thyroid number (not sure it is T4??
Avatar f tn My tsh level is 2.0 how much levothyroxine should i be taking? i am gaining about a pound a week. I dont eat junk food. also i stay active. Please help. My Doctor doesent seem concerned about my weight, but its very important to me.
Avatar n tn I would like to know why manufacturer's use levothyroxine rather than thyroxine in their thyroid medications? I have noticed that the levothyroxine has a sodium atom, heavier molar wieght and different structural formula. Isomers are known not to function like the parent compound. So why levothyroxine and not thyroxine in thyroid meds?
Avatar n tn s rest for a change! Obviously, I will still take the levothyroxine (in the morning before food). I think I will request a blood panel in 3 weeks instead of 6 weeks. Thank you for your help. This message board is a huge help. I feel better just knowing that I am not alone. My big worry now is that the baby is ok. Thanks again.
738890 tn?1232214279 50mcg of levothyroxine was too much. So was 25, 12.5, even 6mcg. The side effects overwhelmed me - anxiety, lethargy, tremor, gastric distress, tightness in my chest. My numbers on 1.05.09 - Free T3 2.73 (range 1.5 - 4.1) 3rd generation TSH 3.41 (range .5 - 2.5) Total T4 7.49 (range 4.5 - 12.5) After a few days on the lowest dose of levo, I stopped taking it. Over all, I feel better without it tho my chest is still a bit tight.
393685 tn?1425812522 There has been new information released recently on the use of particular weight loss drugs and the use of Levothyroxine together. The specific weight loss medication is Alli ( which is the brand name for the medication Rx Orlistat) Orlistat is a drug that promotes fat-blocking - taken with meals to help block some of the fat -- and therefore fewer intake of calories -- from meals, and aids in some weight loss.
Avatar f tn Especially, cause I eat like a bird, or so I have been told. When I do eat, I eat very healthy, no fast food, junk food, fried food, etc...I truly have no appetite and have to remind myself to eat. I am seriously very tired all the time and have NO energy or desire to motivate at all to do anything. The past few weeks I have been waking up with severe neck pain and thought I was just sleeping wrong or needed a new pillow. Did buy a new pillow designed for the neck..
Avatar n tn I have systemic sclerosis and have chronic gastric ulcers (no H-pyloric) and food bezoars for 10 years. I am supposed to be on liquid diet (I am not) and have gastroparesis and have gained 40 pounds in past two years. I have hypothyroidism for 33 years and empty sella syndrome. Because my TSH is always messed up docs keeping reducing levothyroxine dramatically, 2 years ago I was in a coma due to hypothyroidism and UTI which went to brain.
Avatar f tn I started Nature- Throid about seven weeks ago. (I used to take Levothyroxine 75mg. ) My first dose was 3/4 grain. All was well the first week or so, but then I was fatigued and had random twinges and soreness in my breasts. I did a follow-up blood test and my T3 was 3, Free T4 was .89, and my TSH was 5.292. My Dr. raised my dosage to 1.25 grains.
Avatar f tn I have been taking levothyroxine 137 mcg once a day for a couple of years. Can I stop taking it all at once or do I gradually have to get off of it?
Avatar m tn The doctor put me on Levothyroxine, and now after 3 and a half months, I have indigestion approximately 3 times a week, bloated stomach, and balance problems. Why should I take this medication when before I started taking it, I had no symtoms? Can I stop taking this medication? I'm thinking that perhaps I was born with this thyroid problem, and it was not a problem until I started taking the medication.
Avatar m tn ive missed my medication. levothyroxine for 10 days. what side affects should i experience? i feel lethargic and have been vomitting ? is this to be expected?
