Avatar m tn You might want to try getting some Slippery Elm powder. It's very soothing to the intestines, and it healed my mom's diverticulitis. She added it to her tea. I think eating celery also helped her. You would have to look in a health food store most likely, to find Slippery Elm. Good luck to you.

Avatar f tn I can see no reason he couldn't take the slippery elm bark as long as like you posted a min. of 1 hour before or after meals so it doesn't interfere with absorption, you can start with the 5ml. and if that doesn't seem to be enough you can give that amount 3x a day...its very good for upset tummies:) I would strongly suggest you keep up trying to feed him wet food, dry food is very hard on the urinary tract especially with males....
Avatar m tn Cut back on heavy meals and increase your intake of water. Warm water helps to get things moving. Continue drinking until you feel movement in your lower intestine. Staying active helps as well. It is commonly heard to consume more fibre but only do this if you plan on drinking just as much water, otherwise it can make things worse. And if you're really desperate, try a gentle laxative. Something with marshmallow root, cascara bark or slippery elm should do the trick.
Avatar f tn common for anyone who has had a recent throat infection... the throat is irritated to the point that when it's dry it has a tingling poking itch that makes you cough and gag. This will go away after the throat irritation is gone, but I've had it when I get a cold, or on dry mornings. Drinking water does not help because the dry irritation isn't resolved - usually coughing so much that the mucous builds up and your swallow will cover it - but that's hardly what anyone wants.

451053 tn?1237577749 For a healing effect, combine 2 tbsp. each of licorice root, slippery elm and burdock root, and 1 tsp. goldenseal. Make a tea with 1 tsp. of this mixture and drink 2-3 cups daily. It should be noted that long-term use of licorice can elevate blood pressure in some individuals, due to its glycyrrhetinic acid content. Use deglycyrrhizinated licorice (DGL) instead. Use borage and black currant oils as directed on the labels.
