Common Questions and Answers about Laryngitis and cough

laryngitis

I have developed a chronic dry Cough & Laryngitis, currently I have been dealing with symptoms for a month. I went thru same illness 5months ago was in the hospital & then passed around to various specialists without any real answers. I have done allergy testing, tests to rule out relfux, seen ENT, pulmonlogist, & family dr multiple times with not much success. No one can tell me why I got better last time, or why I am dealing with the same situation again.
No matter how much I clear my throat or Cough, I cannot clear out my throat and my voice is almost gone. I am taking Mucinex, Advair, Singulair, Xyzal, and Combivent (when necessary). My family doctor has diagnosed this as a sinus infection, but I have had no headaches or tooth pain. He has put me on antibiotics, which don't seem to be helping. What do you think I have and what can I do to get my voice back?
Had to leave work today and may have to take time off as I have no voice. Started feeling achy, with headache, chills and a sore throat a week ago. Had a Cough but felt like I couldn't clear my lungs. A couple days later started feeling better and then I started Coughing more and then I ended up with Laryngitis. What can you take to speed the recovery from losing your voice. I am so hoarse and wasn't really Coughing much to cause this Laryngitis.

After the first, she had no ill effects, but following the second in November 2007, she almost immediately developed respiratory problems -- a hoarse voice, a deep and persistent Cough, shortness of breath, and some bloody discharges through the nose. I informed her personal physician that I felt the endoscopy, itself, was responsible for my wife's condition, but she at first treated her with Pednisone, which did not help. She was then given Doxycycline, which also did not help.
I tend to get a minor cold three or four times a year. About three or four days later I will develop bronchitis, followed by a Laryngitis and perhaps a minor sore throat. I will have Coughing spasms in which I gag and Cough for several minutes, at times spitting up yellow mucus. Incontinence is common during these Coughing spells. I have no trouble breathing; I am a non-smoker. But the major symptom is extreme fatigue.

Symptoms can include a headache or pressure in the area of the sinuses, a stuffy nose, achy teeth, postnasal drip, Cough, sore throat, Laryngitis, constant low fever, and thick, yellow to green nasal drainage. The most common cause of sinusitis is an infection, especially when the mucus is green. Sinus infections can be difficult to treat since they respond slowly. Got bit badly by my dog and got cellulitis with fever and flu-like symptoms. Was put on Augmentin for the infection, but didn't help the lungs. Have a clear chest xray and docs can't hear anything in my lungs. They are scratching their heads: am now on another antibiotic (just in case!), albuterol inhaler, antihistimine, Cough suppressant, etc. -- nothing helps! Am really feeling depressed and uncomfortable--miserable.

I thought I had a summer cold and took a week to ride it out with lots of rest and fluids, but then went to my doctor to relieve the Cough that persisted and kept me from sleeping. Shortly after taking antibiotic, nasal spray and Cough suppressant, I was suddenly experiencing episodes of Coughing, then a sneeze, watery eyes and inability to breath due to a closed airway. This was very scary. This mostly happens when I eat or drink just about anything but water.

My voice also comes in and out, I will be talking and every few words just don't come out. I have tried a few Cough medicines and they are doing nothing for me. Alot of times when I start Coughing, I Cough so hard and so long that I start to gag. I have never had anything like this, and just wasn't sure if I should contact my doctor about it.
To top it off, I've caught a second cold and have a recurrence of my second cold sore this year. It's big and ugly. 5 weeks (I am a teacher) and Cough got much worse, now accompanied by a cold. Went to see PCP and found out I have bronchitis and viral Laryngitis. Was put on steroids to help improve breathing and daily and rescue inhalers. All meds gone now except rescue inhaler. Can't get rid of cold or Cough. Are they just hanging on for so long because of lowered immune from surgery? Does anyone have tips for getting rid of it?
