Common Questions and Answers about Lamictal xr side effects

lamictal

1303966 tn?1296740010 Sorry to hear about everything! I know how you feel...have been on a number of different anti-seizure meds for 14 years now, and totally understand how you feel. If it helps, things usually improve somewhat after you've been on the meds for 5 or 6 months....kind of get used to the dosage, although it isn't easy to deal with all the side effects.
Avatar m tn I have been on lamictal for years, and tend to lose my balance pretty easily, one of the more common side effects of the med. Sometimes the side effects can be persistent even when you stop the med, but no one knows for sure. Hope you are able to find an answer to your question.
Avatar f tn It can also cause loss of attention and inability to concentrate. These side effects however do not occur in everyone who is taking Lamictal. Please consult your physician about it as you may need dose adjustment or switch to another medication. Take care!
607502 tn?1288247540 Why are you changing from seroquel to lamictal? I am just curious as I perhaps too might be changing from seroquel to something else in the near future. It's some unwanted side effects for me.I tried stopping the med unsupervised (don't do this at home) and I had a real job sleeping afterwards, so perhaps be prepared for that (I am back on now until I can see my pdoc).
Avatar f tn You might want to take it slow as you go on it as a couple of the side effects can be disquieting. My only side effect was a severe increase in sexdrive. I'm that way anyway but it was more so after starting the drug. In my opinion it is a good drug and it has a lot of benefits. Good luck with it.
Avatar n tn Its been almost three weeks now on lamictal. All side effects went away and now im doing better than ever. Seems lamictal is good stuff.
Avatar f tn I take 10mg of lexapro once daily but its not enough. My dr tried having me take it 2x's a day but I had VERY bad side effects, so im back to just 1x a day. I don't want to switch the lexapro all together because its def. helped more and has had less side effects than anyother I have been on. I have also tried zoloft, prozax, paxil, and wellbutrin xr. Anyways, I was just wondering what expeirences anyone else has had on abilify? I know it effects everyone different but.....
5717054 tn?1372958545 Many doctors have different ideas on what my problem is i gotten to the point i only use medicine that i think works because of side effects. iv been on Valium forever it stops my paranoia some of my anxiety and insomnia and vertigo too much benzo has paradoxical effect. I just started Adderall 20mds XR First day was bad i figured cause my anxiety.
Avatar n tn Doing some research on my own and comparing Lamictal with other anti-seizure meds, the side effects seem to be a bit less. I was on 400mg for a little while but started noticing some drastic side effects so I went down until I felt like I could function without my "spells" which was 100mg. Most Dr's say 200mg is the minimum though and I'm no doctor, I just know my own body and have a very hard time pumping it full of foreign drugs which it wasn't made for.
Avatar n tn i had similar side effects when coming off the depo shot. I thought i was pregnant and took 3 tests. they went away but it took about 6mo. My docs checked my hormones and pituitary gland and they we all fine. It's probably not the effexor but ck w/ your doc anyway.
2133558 tn?1368828158 I am so sick of these seizures medicine not working I wish the world would disappear!! No hope on Lamictal XR 600 mg told therapist hope whole world would disappear!! About had it can't eat, nausea, depressed up all night can't sleep from the smell and just sick of everything!! Been sick for 1 1/2 years lost 60 pounds, got diagnosed with eating disorder now seizures.. and had it!! Will it ever get better?? Or just keep getting worse?
Avatar n tn I was recently prescribed Lamictal for depression/anxiety related symptoms. My psychiatrist thought it was worth a try because it doesn't have some of the side effects like the Effexor XR I've been taking for 5 years. Effexor works for my anxiety/depression, but I don't like the sexual side effects. Lamictal, though, seems to only be approved for treating bipolar disorder and epilepsy. I have never been diagnosed with bipolar disorder nor do I have epilepsy.
1983010 tn?1326397026 I mostly only been taking 25 mg but started the 13th of Jan 50 mg and again the 30th of last month is when I started the medicine at 25 mg. This is just so screwed up cause I was on Lamictal 100 mg but this one is Lamictal XR two different ones I guess, not a problem on the Lamictal Regular.
1965148 tn?1354978634 I finally got given some medication for my illness im on seroquel ive been on it for 3 days and the side effects are killing me already, but my moods keep changing, one minute im frustrated and irritated then im all laughs with everyone and in a good mood. Is this meant to happen or am i going through rapid cycling? I thought i was only ment to have side effects but it looks like it affecting my moods too...
1134609 tn?1269272200 But, as I stated above, I am feeling stable, a little on the hypomanic side, but this is the way I always feel when I increase the dose of Lamictal. It evens out after a few days. I don't screw around with my meds at all; I take them religiously. I was given the script for Xanax XR about six months ago and I have take 5 of them in that space of time. I also have a bottle of Ativan that I was given a full year ago and I've take 4 of them in 8 months.
603543 tn?1255294450 I hate to see you have to switch from Effexor XR if it was working well for you. You are correct that Celexa and Effexor XR are very different in terms of what neurotransmitters they effect in the brain. Celexa being an SSRI and Effexor XR being an SNRI. For depression has heavy symptoms of fatuge and exhaustion, then an SNRI is always a better bet becuase they tend to be more energizing.
Avatar m tn It hurts sometimes to touch, grab, interact with things. I have no other side effects besides this strange one. Seeing if anyone has experienced this and how they may have dealt with it. Medication works great, but sometimes this side effect can be too much. Maybe just a supplement I need to take?
Avatar f tn I've been on Depakote and Seroquel for bipolar and not improving much, so today the doc took the depakote away and is starting me on Lamictal. Can anyone share your experiences with it? He told me it should not give me the weight gain or fatigue, and the only thing I need to watch for is if a rash develops on my body to let him know immediately, as it could be serious enough to land me in the hospital. Other than that, does the lamictal really have relatively few side effects?
1192491 tn?1265031829 I'm currently on Lamictal, and I haven't experienced too many negative side effects aside from a general forgetfulness (i.e., I will sometimes get up to retrieve something in another room, but I forget what it is I need to get once I'm there). When I increased my dosage from 50 mg to 100 mg, I also experienced some 'flu-like symptoms', but that dissipated within a week or two.
Avatar n tn I would look into the side effects of each and also how they interact with each other.
