Lamictal withdrawal from hell

Common Questions and Answers about Lamictal withdrawal from hell

lamictal

Avatar n tn t believe the problem was lamictal, he told me to stop taking it the next day. The withdrawal is living hell. I have been off it for 3 weeks and the stiffness and pain is better, but I feel like I have the flu and the diarrhea is bad. I would like to know how long the withdrawal will last? I believe I was misdiagnosed. I've come a long way since my accident and now I feel like I'm starting over. Thanks.

5700140 tn?1372651764 Hello, Lamictal causes serious withdrawal reactions. These withdrawal effects are more severe compared to side effects. The common symptoms seen with withdrawal are moodiness, lethargy, headaches, tingling, suicidal tendencies etc.Lamictral should not be stopped abruptly it should be done slowly. It is suggested to report these symptoms to your doctor. If the symptoms are severe or persistent you may need emergency medical help. Keep me posted. Take care and regards!
Avatar f tn My doctor recently increased my lamictal dose from 100 to 150. Of course, I already have a full menu of other medications that I take. I was on that dose for a couple of months and it wasn't good. I changed from "Honey, would you please pass the butter" to "Why did you put the butter all the way over there? You know I am going to want some...sheesh!" My doctor said that this shouldn't have affected me this way and that I must be extremely sensitive to it.
Avatar f tn Hi all After a couple of weeks of reducing my 700mg daily dose, took my final Lithium tablet just over a week ago. I followed doctors orders as to the withdrawal timescale, and they said it should not cause any problems. They advised that it's just a type of salt, and is not even technically a drug, so it's not the same as withdrawing from other meds.
1011826 tn?1274492712 I am switching from Trileptal to Lamictal over a long period of time. After 3 months, I am down to 900 mg of Trileptal, 2 mg Xanax, and 150 mg daily, down from 1800 mg daily of TRileptal originally, and a VERY slow introduction of Lamictal into my system. Of course this happens on the weekend, otherwise I would have called the pdoc by now-- anyway, let me know. Help is appreciated!
Avatar f tn I have Bipolar I, and have been experiencing a great deal of relief from Lamictal/Lamotrigine for several years. However, my psychiatrist is starting to raise the dose, and I don't know why. I haven't been with this psychiatrist for very long. I was on the usual dose of 200mg/day; then, she raised it to 400mg/day. I'm not sure I felt much better from raising it, but it's possible, so I wasn't worried. Now, though, she wants to raise it to 600mg/day.
355133 tn?1241569648 I believe coming off any psychiatric med too quickly would run that risk of seizure, the meds attached to your brain cells right? . I would get massive anxiety attacks like what you've described and i do at times get restless legs when I'm going to sleep, but not all the time. I've been on Lamictal for 7 months now. What I'd like to know, how slowly were you put on the med? It has to be titrated extremely slowly at about 25mgs every 10 or so days.
874521 tn?1424116797 Lamictal can occasionally cause extra pyramidal side effects and as an adverse side effect tardive dyskinesia. That is where I acquired it from. Go to the medication website (the prescription information part) under "adverse side effects" and print that out for your psychiatrist. They can determine whether its e.p.s. (in which case it can be treated with a side effect pill) or tardive which means it must be changed to another medication.
750716 tn?1263734643 t succeed in maintaining stability and kept fluctuating like hell until I accepted lamictal. Upon asking my pdoc whether I can change cipralex/lexapro into something weaker or its cousin celexa/cipram he said no matter what SSRI you will be using you will experience rapid cycling and mixed episodes unless under a strong MS. A friend of mine has autism i.e. not BP he is taking zyprexa+straterra+cipram but never fluctuating for 2 years , perhaps because not BP.
Avatar n tn My neuro is switching my meds from Lamictal to Topamax. Although it's only my fourth day at 25mg of Topa, I'm very sleepy! I'm not being weaned at all from Lamictal until I've reached my therapeutic dose of Topa. Is it possible I've misunderstood the nurse? In other words, is this typical? Any other time I've been weaned off of one and switched to another med, it's been simultaneously. I'm wondering if this is why I'm so tired. Thanks is advance!
Avatar f tn You might end up pretty sick if you just stop it....not just from potential withdrawal effects but from imbalance!!!! Message me if you want to talk.....

Avatar m tn My doctor said I went through a common Effexor withdrawal, and I did feel better when I took my dose. From then on, I learned to communicate with my pdoc every time I wanted to or decided to go off a med. I guess almost everyone learns that lesson. Never had it when I was on Lamictal, but that only lasted for a couple of months. However, I do have same kind of vivid nightmares, waking up in extreme anxiety and terror, when the PTSD kicks in.
Avatar f tn I am detoxing off off tramadol. I took a break from hell in the form off 3 suboxone over 2 days. I am feeling like I am getting worse! Did I put myself right back where I was and wasted the week of hell I've just gone through?!? I need to know approx: how long this detox pain will last for? This is my first time on this forum thing, so please somebody answer me. I've been awake for 5 days. Except yesterday I got 3 hrs sleep when I took the suboxone.
Avatar m tn I am in full blown withdrawal from risperidone and my psychiatrist is out of town.I got side effects(involuntary movements) so had to quit.My doc will be back 4 days from now.Any suggestions.
10608291 tn?1411415602 I don't know if I can distinguish what is real emotion or withdrawal from Effexor, Lamictal, Remeron. How long does this last. I have been taking St. John's Wort, B12, Valerian, and L Tyrosene to build up my own natural supply of serotonin, dopamine. This crying thing is the pits. I'm so sick of medications. I want to have a baby without spina bifida or missing limbs and cardiac anamolies, I've been on and off meds for years.
Avatar n tn So for a week or 2 I will spread this out over 8 hours as you have written above. . I will do this for a week or two until stable as I am suffing withdrawal from being tolerant. Hopefully this will stop the up and downs. Then I will slowly switch to Librium. I know Librium isnt for panic , but I figure I am going to get panic from with drawal anyways. I feel worse now than before I took any benzos. I am house bound and severly depressed suffer panic attacks daily.

Avatar n tn I have been through a rollercoaster ride since March of last year. I was on Lamictal and Wellbutrin at that time. I stopped the Lamictal abruptly (I know, big no no) and started taking Wellbutrin right after. On the fourth day of taking the Wellbutrin, I started experienced violent jerking movements as I was trying to fall asleep. I didn’t sleep at all for three nights. Finally I went to the pcp and she prescribed Restoril for the time being.
Avatar f tn was diagnosed as being bipolar. The prescription that he got was a generic form of Lamictal. I visited him today & saw the pill bottle, it says "41" but there were only 9 pills left in the container. The date was Dec. 19 - that's only been 7 days ago & it says to take "1 for the lst 7 days & then take 2 a day". I asked him why there were so few in the bottle & he said the pharmacy didn't have enough to fill the entire prescription.
Avatar n tn I feel light headed, unbalanced, confused, so exhausted, my eyes are very sore, I feel depressed, mood swings from hell, my spine tingles and today my cheek went numb for about 30minutes! But I have a government doctor and no primary care doctor because I have no insurance. I have not been able to get a hold of her to discuss these issues and she has not returned my calls. She is aware of me stopping the medication though and told me to do the same thing but gave me no other advice.
Avatar f tn I take 400 of Lamictal but my Psych NP gradually built it up going from 200, to 300 to 400 and those split up into twice a day doses (i.e. 150 x 2, etc,,,) I've never had any drastic side effects that I know of but I'll bet it was from doubling your dose suddenly. Did you have any side effects with the 200 mg dose?
398624 tn?1266269449 Withdrawal is different for everyone, and can be quite long-lasting. If you google protracted withdrawal you'll see some articles from a British psychiatrist who's one of the foremost authorities on benzo withdrawal and protracted withdrawals. Best way to prevent it is to slowly taper down, not stop cold turkey as you did. Hopefully, this will pass. Good luck.
Avatar m tn this happened when i tried to switch from depakote to lamictal. i stopped the lamictal but the symptoms persisted and are debilitating. have you ever heard of this before.
1448748 tn?1312956208 I never experienced any side effects from lamictal and my hysband suffers from bp2 also and takes it without any side effects. I tried nuerontin made me feel awful. So tired, but lamictal helped me from not being able to drive to work even after a full nights sleep, to being almost normal as far as fatigue goes. I'm afraid to try lyrica because I already have weight issues and a major side effect is weight gain.
