Lamictal serotonin

Common Questions and Answers about Lamictal serotonin

lamictal

1. Can this cause serotonin syndrome? 2. Could you be specific with the symptoms? 3. Are these fatal?
when I was at the doc's yesterday, she said that the medications like zoloft, increase the serotonin (sp?) levels. So I was looking up different things to raise this level naturally. I found numerous articles that if you exercise vigorously daily it will naturally boost the level. I guess from what I understand, this level when it is low can cause anxiety and depression. I was just wondering if anyone has ever tried really heavy exercise to try and get rid of the anxiety.
Then I discoverd that I had been taking a lower dose of Paxil for some time. As far as I can tell I had some degree of serotonin syndrome and now I'm a bit worried. What will happen if I am out in the wilderness and my medicition will get lost - can I die of a heartatack (no heartcondition) or have permanent braindamage or something if I'm without it for to long? I also take amphetamine for AD/HD and Mirtazapine for sleep.
- Out of breath from SIMPLE activities (like huffing and puffing after mowing the lawn) I dont know if this is all caused by low serotonin or low testosterone,. I had my t-levels checked and the doc says that DHEA was very elevated by testosterone was normal , however I have a very good feeling that , naturally, i had higher than average T-levels and the sudden decrease to normal may be the cause of these symptoms im experiencing. If its not the Test, then perhaps its low serotonin?
I have been on Lamictal for years for Bipolar Disorder. Just recently, I have been having really strange dreams, and at some point, it always turns into a nightmare. It doesn't always stay bad, but at some point during the night, I wake up sweating. And its not just an I'm hot sweating, its like I wake up with my clothes wet sweating. I'm usually not hot, but I have to kick off my blanket to try and get my body heat back down.
I have been recently diagnosed with bipolar disorder and anxiety and put on Lamictal and Lexapro. I think lamictal works really good for me. I feel calm and able to concentrate. Lexapro on the other hand is making me feel sick. I experience all of the side effects. I tried to research about these meds and I know that Lexapro mechanism of action is based on SSR but I am not quite sure what lamictal does. Some meds affect the serotonin levels, other the dopamine and glutamate.
For example you could have perfectly normal levels of Serotonin in your brain, but if the receptors in your brain are performing the reuptake (a kind of absorbsion) of that Serotonin too rapidly then much less Serotonin is left in between the receptors and this inhibits the brains ability to function normally, which can result in a depressed brain. Not to mention that Serotonin reuptake is not the only contributing factor related to depression.
I currently take 360 mg Effexor XR, 15 mg of Lexapro, 100 mg of Lamictal to boost the anti-depressant effect, and 1 mg of Ativan per day. I have major depression, dysthymia, anxiety, and compulsive hoarding. I haven't always taken this high a dosage of Effexor. Is this too high a dose of these when taken together? Is there anything harmful about it? Don't have the symptoms of serotonin syndrome but wonder about whether this is too much.

from wellbutrin, i switch to lexapro and lamictal and those seem to be working well for me.
the cycling just never seems to end. I am on 225mgs of Lamictal, 1600mgs of Neurontin and 1.5mgs of Klonopin. I have Xanax XR as a PRN and had too take that, along with 5 melatonin and 3 Benadrtyl to sleep last night; ridiculous...I still have a bunch of Xanax XR floating around in my system and it's not putting a dent into the mania. Over the past two weeks, my psychiatrist and I have tried Lithium (became very agitated) and Seroquel (made the cycling far worse).
of Effexor XR daily. Nervousness is the problem now. BuSpar and Lamictal have not worked. I'd prefer not to be on valium or other benzodiazepenes. Can you suggest anything that might help me? Thanks.
I have not noticed that symptom with any of the numerous meds I've been on over the years. Currently on lamictal 200mg and lexapro 20mg and no excess urination problems. If something else is causing your problem, I know the doc can prescribe medicines that will limit your need to urinate so often. But your doc should check every other possible cause to be sure there is not another medical condition.
After a drug induced manic episode (Lexapro) my daughter was prescribed Lamictal, Resperdal and continued her usage of Wellbutrin. Nothing has helped to releive the depression. He has now discontinued the Lamictal and added Topromax. Does that do it for depression? IS there something in this pot that we are missing? This happened 10 years ago with Zoloft however the doctors did not think that she was bipolar. In the interim she did very well on Paxil but switched off due to sexual side effects.
Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors are designed to screw around with your serotonin and noradenalin levels increasing them which makes you feel happy. Its as simple as that.
A small piece of dark chocolate 60-70% cocoa daily. Omega 3 Fish Oil daily. Bread it has serotonin. Sunshine before noon for a half an hour. B complex vitamins, a lack of B12 leads to feelings of guilt. Going to bed early. If we don't our brains won't make the serotonin to fight depression. Hope this helps you.
Hi, Cymbalta is an antidepressant in a group of drugs called selective serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SSNRIs). It can cause side effects that may impair your thinking or reactions which may get worse on Cogentin (it also impairs mental abilities ).
The chances of developing serotonin syndrome are much less than expected if triptans and SSRI are combined together. I would suggest you to discuss this option with your specialist and let us know if you have more questions. http://findarticles.
Maybe I am asking for too much- but do you know of any medication/ combination that may be helpful for bipolars with bulimia? We have tried removing the anti-depressants and increasing the Provigil or Lamictal. It still resulted in depression/ bouts of bulimia. I am currently taking 100-200 mg Provigil, 300 mg Wellbutrin, 150 mg Seroquel and 150 mg Lamictal. Although the bulimia is under control- I am angry and moody. This is harming my relationship with my husband and family.
Klonopin either makes me very emotionally flat or drops the depressive episodes deeper. And, I am treatment resistant; I am on Lamictal, Neurontin and Klonopin. I have hit a rough patch as of late and have tried numerous BP medications (Depakote, Lithium, Seroquel, Zyprexa, etc, etc) and have had adverse reactions to all of them. And by rough, I mean I have been off of work for three weeks.
Caution is also advised when concomitant use of Risperdal and Cymbalta or Risperdal and Lamictal is necessary. Caution is also advised when concomitant use of Lamictal and Cymbalta or Lamictal and Trazodone is unavoidable. I'm sure your prescriber feels the benefit of taking these medicines outweighs the risk of side effects but you may wish to discuss this with him. Hope this is helpful. Eloise.
To do so is risking Serotonin syndrome. I'm not trying to scare you, but I must tell you that in no circumsatnce is this safe. You can mix an SNRI with SSRI, or Tri-cyclic with SSRI, Tetracyclic with SSRI, mood stabilizers such as Eskalith, Abilift or Lamictal can also be mixed with SSRI's and SNRI's. But never two SSRI's together for long term.
And how many have low neurotransmitters (serotonin, epinephrine, norepinephrine, Dopamine) These when low indicate or lead to low immune system. Since ms is more common in the higher latitudes, vit D is harder to get and it is associated with greater incidence. I have very low D and low Serotonin. I'm trying to work on some supplementation I can use to help myself other than the DMDs. Thanks for your input.
Does anyone know of any medications other than Geodon, Depakote and Lexapro to treat Bipolar? I have been depressed for over 3 years, and I've also tried Lithium, Lamictal, Cymbalta and Buspar. I wake up dreading the day, and I feel very anxious all day, like I don't want to stay unoccupied. My thoughts are all about how I'm never going to beat this thing; it feels almost like something alien has taken over my brain. I also can't yawn anymore. I know it sounds stupid, but I can't yawn.
I have found some articles saying that Klonopin decreases serotonin levels and that this can cause increased problems with depression. I am also trying to understand the different actions of the benzodiazapines. Is it true that only Klonopin has a negative impact on serotonin? Could she try using Xanax or Ativan to get the positive effects and not the negative effects on serotonin? Just trying to help here some. She is so confused about what to even try next and afraid to try an SSRI.
I'd suggest to you that the patient and the doctor would know better what is good for the patient. The main risk of 2 or more ssri's together is serotonin syndrome. This is something all docs must be aware of and monitor the patient for. The way to do this is to see the patient regularly, I'd suggest once a week in the early stages and maybe fortnightly if there appears no problem.
I am taking total per day 300mg lamictal 250mg topamax and 50mg zoloft My life and personality has done a complete flip. I have no energy, I can't add a $4.00 tip I feel like I am doped up all of the time and my memory (short term is gone) One of the guys at work was working out overtime coverage with me one day and when I was supposed to come into work two days later I didn't have a clue that I was even supposed to be there until the supervisor called me.
It is thought to increase the activity of norepinephrine and serotonin which help elevate mood. Remeron is used to treat major depressive disorder. Since it is not an SSRI, most of the side effects associated with SSRI's will not be experienced. I have been taking Remeron for approximaately 8 weeks now and didn't suffer any side effects and have found it to be quite useeful in controlling my symptoms.
John's Wort besides the risk of dangerous side effects such as serotonin syndrome is that it works on serotonin like an anti-depressent so it will make a person with bipolar become dangerously manic. I've seen that happen with people I know. The same is true for Sam-e as well.
