Lamictal liver

Common Questions and Answers about Lamictal liver

lamictal

Avatar m tn Can anybody help me on this one… what is starting to cause the liver toxicity symptoms? Is it the Lamictal? The alcohol, (bearing in mind I know shouldn’t be drinking) with Lamictal, but with such a low dose as 15mg? not sure why I’m getting the tiny bumbs that itch on my cheeks even though the allergy tests for Lamictal stated that im not allergic to it) Any input on this subject or experiences is very much appreciated.
Avatar m tn Couldn't say which is best to use but Lamictal was the most effective for me as well as other people and generally used more than the others. Trileptal unlike Tegretol (which its clinically similar to) does not require a blood test. Neurontin and Topomax don't but they are generally used as adjuncts. I was not able to tolerate Keppra because of personality changes and its not used often for this exact reason.
Avatar f tn Does prednisone effect dilantin and lamictal levels? I've been on dilantin and lamictal for over 5 years for seizures. I'm being tested for autoimmune hepatitis, I just had a liver biopsy. I don't want to take a chance on having a seizure.
Avatar m tn There are no required bloodtests but when I was on it a once a year bloodtest for liver function was suggested so I got it. Lamictal is more effective on depression than mania but many mood stabilizers have a trade off one way or the other except for lithium but that's the only mood stabilizer originally developed as a mood stabilizer first. However, Lamictal is FDA approved as a first line mood stabilizer and has somewhat of an antipsychotic effect as well. See how it works out.
524020 tn?1223161005 I was on lamictal and ativan at the same time - I was okay until my son was murderedin 1/05 - and then it seemed like nothing helped - suffered from PTSD so I was going from one med to the other - however doctor kept me on lamictal than I switched doctors and the new one put me on 400 mgs of lamictal and that's when my problems started I got bad rash and once you get a rash from lamictal you can't go back on it - however I was okay under regular dose of 200 mgs - also had problems when d
Avatar m tn I have been on Lamictal and Cymbalta for some time. I was taking 100mg of the Lamictal, but was recently increased to 200mg. I asked to be taken off the Cymbalta because I thought I was having a bad side effect from it....profuse sweating! But it hasn't stopped. I am active and go to the gym on a regular basis and it's just plain embarrassing having sweat pouring off my head & body. It also smells like ammonia. I am ruining a lot of my clothes and it's maddening.
925572 tn?1246540031 hi Malak i don't think trileptal has serious side effects, because it belongs to the category of weak effectiveness like gabapentin. also since it's the cousin of tegretol it's taken for a number of other diseases not just psych.. so i assume i wouldn't worry about liver problems. all meds affect the liver. rather it's the combination of many meds that u are on which is strange, you are on 3 ms, usually they give 2, but nobody here can give a different opinion than a pdoc.
Avatar m tn I have been out of the hospital for almost 2 weeks now after suffering Stevens Johnson syndrome from lamictal, a medication I was taking to treat Bipolar 2. I had a horrible rash all over my body, cold sores in my mouth and burnt lips. My liver enzymes were 1000. My eyes burned, nose burned and I got a yeast infection as a result. I feel much better as the rash is pretty much gone and my skin is peeling a little. However, my yeast infection seems to be back.
Avatar m tn I am currently on Lamictal and Prozac and doing okay...not great but okay. I believe the Lamictal is a maintainence drug for mood swings and it contains a antidpressant. My bipolar leans more to depression than mania and I have to be on a antidpressant. When beginning a new antidepressant I tend to get mania for a short time but seem to adjust after the first week or two. Hey, if you are feeling good...why mess with something that's not broken! Best of luck.
Avatar f tn I am on Lamictal 150 mg. I just reached this dosage yesterday. For the past two weeks as I have slowly increased dosage, I noticed that my hands, lips, and eyes were swollen. I am also having allergy-like nasal problems. This morning, my eyes were almost swollen shut. Could I be allergic to this drug? All I was warned about by my psychiatrist was a severe rash.
Avatar f tn I am BP and I try to convince my pdoc to try lamictal. He put me on tegretol instead which I couldn't bare. I read good things about lamictal. Why pdocs prefer AC as MS because more effective and longlasting than AP. Although I am on seroquel which is OK, I believe the best 2 meds invented so far though not tried neither is lamotrigine (lamictal) and abilify.
574118 tn?1305135284 I've just come off of trying to switch to Seroquel monotherpy. I maxed out on 800mg of Seroquel before I was able to totally get off of lithium and hadn't even started to lower my Lamictal dose. I don't tolerate lithium well and side effects have gotten much worse over time. Lamictal has been okay for me as long as we watch the dose - it's very reactive to hormones and that has been a huge problem. Was soooo looking forward to only one mood stabilizer...
Avatar n tn I tend to jump in and answer before reading the other posts, so sorry if any of this redundant. I tried prozac and it made my mania 10,000x worse. I had to stop it immediately. It was one of those calls to the doctor where he didn't need to think twice. It was either stop taking the medication, or she's gonna kill someone...call the police! Lithium was discussed with me. It's an older medication. I didn't take well to the fact that it can damage your liver.
Avatar f tn That rash is life-threatening and is most definitely caused by the Lamictal since you just doubled your dose. Lamictal increases are supposed to be VERY gradual. I am sorry you have to deal with this especially considering how well the Lamictal was working for you before.
895207 tn?1241549652 I also am on Lithium for BP. I have been on it for about 5 years and have had no problems with either kidney or liver functions. If it works for you, don't give it up. It is one of the best things that I take. It does cause me to shake a little but I put up with it because it works so well.
452529 tn?1361847855 I feel like a lost a whole part of myself and its pretty depressing. I dont have very bad szs I have partial siezures and am currently on lamictal and keppra. Let me tell you irritable is not the word, I'm horrible on keppra like a different person. I think my doc is going to wean me off and just keep me on lamictal. Although my blood work came back with elevated liver enzymes and low white count so who knows.
Avatar f tn I am bi-polar with severe PTSD. Recently, I was give Lamictal, and had terrible side effects. Then he tried Abilify, with the same results. Now he is talking about (He=doctor) depakote. I am afraid to take this med because I also have hep c, and read where it is exceptionally hard on the liver. What else do they recommend for bi-polar disorder? I have only been diagnosed a year ago, after 35 years of being misdiagnosed with severe depression.
574118 tn?1305135284 The guillotine is a French device used much during the French revolution for carrying out executions by decapitation and apparently is still used. now i am just returning from a visit to my pdoc. Today mania started because I dared to take seroxat/paxil for 20 days 20mg but what can I do, I had depression. I stopped going to work and tomorrow I shall send a paper saying I have vyrimia i.e. attacked by a virius. Last time i said my mother was severly ill. I hope they believe me this time.
Avatar f tn The neurologist had seen cases of lamictal so he identified my problem. I was taken off Lamictal and a couple of weeks later I had the worse attack of all, things everywhere in my house were moving around 100X worse, I would have thought that if I had another bout with wiggling things it would be mild but no this was horrifying.
Avatar n tn I have been treated fo Bipolar II disorder with Lamictal for years, so I know it does not affect my liver enzymes. I have tried quite a number a AD for Magior Depression. They didn't work and/or elevated liver enzymes.
1255505 tn?1272819115 I've been on 400 mg of Lamictal for 3 years and everything has been great until relatively recently..beyond my expectations really. But in the past several months...things have changed. Whereas it had made my sleep the best it's been in my life, now I get insomnia. I'm also having side effects I hadn't had before related to alcohol...any amount like even 2 beers.
1448748 tn?1312956208 I was taking lamictal for pain and fatigue problems of unknown cause for the past 4 months, I've recently been having blurred vision and headaches in the last three weeks.
Avatar f tn I'm currently taking 150mg of Lamictal, daily, as a mood stablizer. I was diagnosed Bipolar last year but my psychiatrist has always said she doesn't think I really am Bipolar she's just treating me for it. I guess the lable doesnt really matter since there is no doubt that I am suffering from major depression. The medication has been helpful but I am noticing that it is not as effective as it was when I first started taking it.
Avatar f tn I relapsed while on Lexapro and my doc started me on Effexor and Lamictal. The effexor was horrible for me, I felt awful and my blood pressure skyrocketed. The Lamictal is supposed to be a mood stabilizer. I am taking 200mg daily. My doc weaned me from Effexor and put me back on prozac 20mg (I stopped it several years back because it was making me extremely irritable). The prozac does not seem to be working like it did before.
1235186 tn?1656987798 I am on Lamictal and have no major side effects. The scary thing about it is you can get steven johnsons syndrom from it when you first start it. I have anxiety too and that scared the crap out of me and took me two days of trying to take it to build up the courage to do it. It is suppose to be a rare possible side effect though.
