I asked about it and they said no side effects so I said go ahead. That night severe diarrhea ....thought ok a reaction. Next day and for two weeks total loss of appetite then A major seizure while she and I were walking. I never saw anything like it and thought she was dying. Took to vet they gave her shot of Valium and brought her home. 7 hours later second seizure. They don't think it's related to vaccines, but prior to this never any issues.....
same thing here I was on 3000 mg of keppra/day and kept haveing 25-30 partial seizures a month and every 3 months I would have a short term memory loss, I would feel funny then confused i would ask my wife questions and we would realize i could not remember anything short term like the entire morning or previous evening.
I suffered with depression for 11 years and came of the medicine fully just before I went on Keppra, and yes I have days where I do feel depressed but with any illness you do have days where you feel depressed even suicidal. So my advice is don't necessarily put it down to Keppra. Talk to the doctor who prescribed Keppra to you and see if you can be referred to a Psychiatrist to talk it through and find out if it is the tablets!

My son is 25 and has seizure disorder. This past Thanksgiving, he had a total of 5 seizures over 24 hours necessitating a hospital visit and stay. They put him on a third seizure medication (Lamotrigine). I spoke with a neurologist at USF who didn't like that a 3rd medication was added before his previous two were maxed out--he was already on Keppra (max dosage) and Depakote (sprinkles--very low dose), so she titrated him up on the Depakote so we could get rid of the Lamotrigine.
side effects of Keppra seem to contradict what our goals for mom are....memory loss, mood changes, mental changes and vision changes among others.
Is Keppra safe to use for this (it is not being used with any other seizure medication....just by itself)?
We want to wean her off, but the doctor is wanting to keep her on it.

Yeah my neurologist put me on the Lamictal with the Keppra to try stop everything but my eyes were still fluttering so he added the topomax after many years of just the Lamictal and Keppra. When I started the Lamictal, I felt fine but over time, I started feeling like you, my mind was starting to go. I have always been great at remembering numbers and things like that and found myself to be forgetting simple things.
I was on Dilantin for about 30 years and I went to a new doctor because I moved. The first thing he said to me was "we have to get you off of Dilantin" he had taking xrays of my brain and he saw that half of my brain was shrinking. He slowly took me off of Dilantin and put me onto Keppra. Ever since I have been on Keppra things have be better. I still have small seizures but not many and they are under control...........Please get off of Dilantin and onto Keppra.
Sometimes if that is also slightly out of whack, there is an increased amount of hair loss with depakote. Perhaps decreasing the dose will solve the problem. In terms of dietary recommendations, these are often giving for thinning hair:
Minerals: zinc, selenium, iron
Vitamins: A, C, E, B6, and B12
It's really hard when you need a drug and it causes something but you can't have your son having seizures either. That's debilitating, hair loss is something we can live with.
As her doage on Keppra increased, so did her irritability and mood swings...She will be weened off of Keppra within the month and will be fully on Trileptal. Her Neuro. thought this was best, because the B6 just was not helping enough..it helped, but not fully, so now we are on to this med. I hope it works....i will keep you all posted on this as she gets off of the Keppra. Hopefully, my bright, happy, cheerful daughter will return.

I hear that you are struggling to eat as a result of loss of appetite. This may or may not be related to the medication you are taking. I would recommend sharing this information with the doctor who prescribed these medications for you so that he/she may assess your symptoms and choose the best course of action.

I have been dealing with gynecological problems, high HR and BP, loss of appetite, and terrible sleep. It is overwhelming to sort out all this stuff. Thankfully, two of the gynecological issues have been resolved. hurray!
Nuts are one of the things I have found myself able to eat, probably for the reasons you mentioned, Heiferly. I feel full fast so nuts are a good way to get myself to eat without having to eat a large volume of food.
shes active enough and her moods are fine shes just the same apart fron this loss of appetite and she takes ages to eat it..she has always been a slow eater so thats nothing new but this is so slow half the time it goes cold then even i wouldnt want to eat it..any suggestions or do you think i should get her checked out..

I hear that loss of appetite isn't an MS symptom. I've had problems with appetite ever since my gall bladder attack a few months ago. While this is causing me to lose weight, it's a little disconcerting - I love food too. The only thing that drives me to eat is a rumbling tummy, and it really has to rumble.
When I was taking steroids, I had more appetite, not less, but I'm sure it's different for everyone.
When you repost this please include any and all labs and values you have currently, what the doctors have said, and what his symptoms are. Yes, unlike doctors we are very interested in symptoms. We believe that is the heart of auto immune and it goes so commonly ignored. I really hope you get some answers soon!
