Is xopenex the same as albuterol

Common Questions and Answers about Is xopenex the same as albuterol

xopenex

he can not have albuterol, due to the fact it will cause his heart rate to go up so far xopenex has not. he has heart issues so the xopenex is what he takes as well as pulmicort. so far it hasn't seemed to "hurt"himit has only helped him.
I am going to go out on a limb here and make some assumptions on the differences in international names of medications. I know that salbutamol is called albuterol in the US. My guess is that levosalbutamol is the same as levalbuterol (brand name Xopenex) in the US. On another board we say that levalbuterol is a more purified form of albuterol. It has fewer side effects - it doesn't cause the shakiness and heart racing that regular albuterol causes.
my asthma is not under control, at work it always bothers me. i am on the albuterol pump plus the breathing machine, which both does no good. what other inahlers can i use? or the breathing treatments? at the hospital, they give me xopenex, which works ok, not really good for me. the last time i went to the hospital, the therapist gave me atrovent and xopenex, with 4 doses in one. i told them it was making me too jittery, way more than normal and nobody listened.
In the states we have several versions of albuterol - Proair, Proventil, Ventolin, Maxair (technically pributerol) and a purified version Xopenex (technically levalbuterol). All of them Xopenex is the only one that does not go by albuterol. No generics because of the cfc ban. We do have generic albuterol neb solution. The Xopenex doesn't cause the shakiness that the other versions do and can be more effective. I wonder if that is what part of my problem has been? hmmmmm...
He actually switched me from advair to symbicort, and from albuterol to xopenex. 24 weeks now and my little girl is doing just fine. They do need us to give them oxygen, so take your meds if you need to.
To date, the three HFA-propelled albuterol inhalation aerosol inhalers on the market include ProAir™ HFA, Proventil® HFA, and Ventolin® HFA. In addition, levalbuterol, the (R) enantiomer of racemic albuterol, is also available as Xopenex HFA™ inhalation aerosol. This national transition from CFC-propelled inhalers to HFA-propelled inhalers is ongoing and other medications using CFC-propelled inhalers will be phased out over the next several years.
hey phil I was wondering if you had any luck treating your asthma? I get the same reaction to all steroid inhalers and even albuterol, intense jitteryness/anxiety, shakes, palpatations sometimes, dry mouth, etc. It's horrible. Please let me know if you've found something that has helped you. So far I've tried advair (all doses), albuterol CFC and HFA, and Asmanex.
(Sorry, this week has been a blur of meds, fevers, doc visits, and nebulizer treatments) Out of the list of meds I now have for my son (Xopenex, Albuterol, Pulmocort) what have ppl had the bust luck with as far as controlling this? I gave him Xopenex at 5pm and it didn't do a thing for his cough. I ended up having to put him in the shower to let the steam open him up a bit. When he is due for his next treatment I will be giving him albuterol.
is there another option for asthma meds like theophylline or albuterol, xopenex, combivent without side effects as bad? singulair helps also. I'm interested in foradil, but is this the same med in symbicort?
If I were you I would talk to your OB if your asthma gets worse or the albuterol isn't working well enough. My OB also told me that albuterol doesn't harm the baby all it does is help me breath. Sorry this was so long. I hope this helps you. How far along are you?
I'm wheezing even on prednisone and my PFT tests give the same numbers even though I've tried several inhalers. I've been trying xopenex on a nebulizer now which is supposed to be a refined version of albuterol. It's also taking me a LONG time to recover from a respiratory infection.
Don't worry, my son was on nebulizer breathing treatments from the time he was 2½ months to 13 months old almost daily. He had the same breathing symptoms you describe Ashtyn as having, and boy, let me tell you what, the first time I heard him wheeze, cough, gag and choke because he could barely breathe, I freaked!
This Allergist took him off all his asthma medications because he felt that our son was over medicated (as did we). He was taking Pulmicort 5.mg BID, Xopenex 1.75 prn, and Serevent 2 puffs bid. At first my son seemed worse off the medications (he still continued on Ryna-12 S for allergies). When I questioned our new allergist on this he told us that some of the asthma medications can cause inflammation when taken away similar to over use of an OTC nasal decongestant spray.
Z-oh-pen-ex. It comes in three forms. 1.25mg, 0.63mg, and 0.31mg. Your doctor will determing which dose is right for you, but this drug is then EXACT same as Albuterol EXCEPT it is missing an isomer in the chemical compund which reduces and can even eliminate the tremors and increased heart rate. Check it out! Good Luck!
Prior to using the hypertonic saline I did a pretreatment of albuterol. After nebulizing each dose I was asked to clear the sputum from my lungs. Now I feel great. I have never breathed as deeply or as well as I have this afternoon and tonight. I'm almost sad to go to sleep because I know when I wake up I will not feel this good. I have never in my life felt this good. It not only helped my breathing but it seems to have decreased my nasal allergy issues.
In the meantime be generous with bronchodilatators(Albuterol or Xopenex- if your insurance covers). You need a nebulizer machine(no 4 year old can do "puffer" effectively). If that doesn't control the asthma add Pulmicort(also through nebul.machine)...and put your kid on a diet(decrease sugar and fat...stop buying things they snack in between meals....that is where most of the calories are from).Remember...it is not just what you eat but how you eat.
it does a fairly good job at keeping my pseudo at bay) as well as pulmicort and Xopenex. Lots of nebs....I used to use mucomyst nebs but I found them to be too irritating and caused my airways to spasm even though I used Xopenex with the nebs. About your initial post...I thought it was odd that the second CT did not show bronchiectasis...bronchiectasis does not go away from what I know. I am glad you got the proper diagnosis along with the right treatment.
Apparently you have asthma or some breathing problems already since you are taking Xopenex and Symbicort. Xopenex is similar to regular albuterol which is a fast acting inhaler for asthma (something I use). It will increase your heart rate for awhile after you use it. For me, that means about 10-15 minutes. I also get shaky, jittery hands. But it eases off. The Symbicort is used when asthma is not well controlled yet. It's not a first line of defense with asthma so there must be a problem.
In meeting room, I suddenly get cough with any bad smell (Either another person's breath or bad breath or a strong coffee smell) I was told I have Asthma and as advised to take Albuterol and Asmanex. It sounded like control for a month, but not really. I went to second opinion with an ENT specialist. He suspected Acide Reflux and asked me to take Aciphex. I should agree that it controlled for 2 months, again got the symptoms after that even though if I still continue the medication.
Anticholenergics like atrovent and Spireva have mild broncho dilating affects, but they are not nearly as good as albuterol or the long-acting beta2 agonists (long acting broncho dilaters). The best thing for you to do is to take controller meds on schedule as directed by your doctor limiting your need for the rescue inhaler. Feel better.
Do you also have a rescue medication? Some for of albuterol - ProAir, Proventil, Maxair, Ventolin, Xopenex and a few others. This is a necessity for when you have the shortness of breath (sob) feeling. Did the hospital tell you what to do about your potassium level? If you do not get that up, you could start having leg cramps. Advair and Symbicort can cause potassium and calcium levels to drop causing cramps. Take care and feel better.
I have FEV1 73% and wheeze when I exhale and feel dizzy/exhausted- after 1 year on symbicort my FEV1 was the same I feel better only after 30mg prednisone and albuterol inhaler and dulera and singulair and ephedrine is there anything else I can try?
Obviously, you want to be on the prednisone for as short a time as possible to avoid long term side effects. However, NOT being on it is sometimes not an option. Everyone is different and can/will react to medications differently - and the side effects that one person experiences may not affect someone else with the same medication and dosage. So, unfortunately, it' simpossible for someone to tell you how long you can be on th eprednisone before side effects starting taking their toll.
I thought the albuteral and xeopenex (?) were pretty much the same medicine or at least used for the same reason. It does seem like a lot of medication for him to take all at once. You should call the doctor for reassurance about the meds.
I know I can't use my Xopenex (cat C) but I can use my albuterol. Just wondering if anyone knew of anything else I can request. I have to put a call into my dr anyway, but was looking for some suggestions.
Spiriva is usually used for COPD patients, but I have heard of it being used to treat some asthma patients. It is an anticholinergic, a totally different class of medicine than albuterol. Since albuterol is not for you, that might be another option. Also, theophyline is another bronchodilater. It has some serious side effects and blood levels will be monitored carefully. It does work well. Caffiene is the the theophyline class of medicines.
He has not slept through the night for five nights and his cough is a wrenching rasping hard one most of the time. We are treating him with Xopenex every 4-6 hours (per several docs), Claritin during the day and Benedryl during the night (to help with post nasal drip), steam, humidifier, the works. Today he got one dose of prednezone at the emergency room in the hope it would help but he continued to cough until he vomited most of the rest of today.
Hi, I'm almost in the same boat as you, if my need for steroid goes any higher. But how many puffs/day of symbicort are you taking? I'm allowed to take up to 8/day of symbicort 200 on a regular basis. That is the beauty of this one. Unfortunately Symbicort doesn't come in a stronger dose,as I was informed by my specialist. The only other one that is stronger is Advair 500...but you can't up the number of puffs on that one like you can with Symbicort, so it too is self limiting.
Anxiety, as another user mentioned, will raise your heart rate, tighten the chest and make breathing difficult as it raises your heart rate. Ask them to use Xopenex and see if that helps. It's not the heavy stimulant that Albuterol is and I think you'll find that it works for you. Another thing that works for me since it's impossible to tell if my symptoms are asthma or my heart racing, I have learned ways to calm myself down and bring my heart rate back to normal levels.
After two and a half weeks of still coughing I took him in again and he had wheezing and still uncontrolable cough. She put him on Cefzil, Orapred and Albuterol. Just finished antibiotic 11-1 and took him back 11-2 b/c coughing still hasn't improved. Now he's on Orapred, Zithromax and Xopenex in a nebulizer. My son says he has been feeling bad a very long time and he's ready to feel better.Help!!
